Terri "Missy" Bevers Murdered in a Church by Apparent Policeman; Video Catches Church Perp in SWAT Gear. Aired 8-9p ET

Aired April 19, 2016 - 08:00:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

NANCY GRACE, HOST: Breaking news tonight, a Texas mom of three, Missy Bevers, at the local Creekside church 4:00 AM, to teach Gladiator Camp

aerobics when Missy is murdered in cold blood in the church.

Bombshell tonight. We obtain grainy surveillance video -- I`m showing it to you right now -- from inside the church showing the murder suspect

decked out -- decked out in full police SWAT gear, clearly saying "Police" across it. He arrives just before Missy does. He kills her, and he

leaves, face hidden, her three children, one of them just 8 years old, left behind.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Terri Missy Bevers showed up at the church to lead the 5:00 AM Camp Gladiator session. Surveillance video shows someone

dressed in tactical gear with a jacket marked "Police."

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Police say he broke into the church before Bevers arrived, then assaulted her and left her unresponsive.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: A helmet and gloves helped hide intruder`s identity.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: A gorgeous young Arlington couple vanish off the face of the earth, leaving no trace behind, but tonight, their SUVs found in remote woodland.

Breaking now. We obtain police tips. Blood discovered in the home of the couple`s neighbors turned suspects, along with items of clothing spattered

with drops of blood. Do these clothes we just discovered belong to the missing couple, Patrick Shunn and wife Monique Patenaude? Also discovered,

a bag, rubber gloves, a tarp and towels.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This search warrant reveals Monique Patenaude and her husband, Patrick Shunn, were afraid of John Reed, their former neighbor.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The documents state Reid made threats to, quote, "shoot" the couple and acted crazy towards Monique and Patrick over a

longstanding property dispute.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We believe that there was some property disputes between Mr. Reed and Patrick and Monique.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Detectives found the couple`s Jeep and Land Rover in an embankment.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: Good evening. I`m Nancy Grace. I want to thank you for being with us.

Bombshell tonight. A Texas mother of three, Missy Bevers, at the local Creekside church, 4:00 AM, to teach a Gladiator Camp aerobics class at 5:00

AM when she is murdered in cold blood in the church.

Tonight, we obtain grainy video surveillance from inside the church showing who we believe to be the murder suspect. He is decked out in full police

SWAT gear. When you get a good look at him, it clearly says "Police" on there.

Now, this guy arrives, breaks into the church just before Missy gets there. He kills her, and he leaves, his face hidden, her three little children,

one girl just 8 years old, left behind.

Hey, Liz, let me see that video again because look at how he`s walking around. I want to see the video. He`s walking around like he owns the

place. Check him out. Look at this. He`s not worried.

Why is he in the church? What`s he going to get, the Sunday school brochures, the bulletins from Sunday? What? There`s not any money in

there. And look at his swagger as he`s walking around.

Now, hold on. I`m being joined right now, from KRLD, Andrew Greenstein, there on the scene. Andrew, thank you for being with us. Andrew, I know

you`ve seen this video. What can you tell me about how this guy gets into the church? Why is he there at 4:00 AM, Andrew?

ANDREW GREENSTEIN, KRLD NEWSRADIO (via telephone): Well, number one, we don`t know why he was there at 4:00 o`clock in the morning, Nancy. To

answer your first question, he had broken into the church. He had smashed out a thin pane of glass on an exterior door, and that`s how he was able to

make entry into the church.

GRACE: Andrew Greenstein joining me, KRLD. I know he broke through a door, but isn`t it true, Andrew, he also broke through several windows,

several window panes he couldn`t possibly have gotten through. He couldn`t get in through the window panes, so why break the windows? That`s my

question.

[20:05:03]GREENSTEIN: Well, why break through the windows? Obviously, you`ll have to ask the suspect. But there were other doors that had been -

- that had been compromised inside the building. And police have said that he broke into the church at about -- he broke in before the victim, Missy

Bevers -- before she arrived at the church. So he was already there.

What we don`t know right now is whether he was there to burglarize the church and Missy Bevers had disrupted the burglary or if Missy Bevers was

actually targeted for murder. Missy Bevers`s husband talked with us earlier today, and he believes that she was not targeted for murder.

The investigation, obviously, is still going on right now, still many more questions than there are answers.

GRACE: Now, you`re telling me, Andrew Greenstein, KRLD, the husband says - - and by the way, the husband was not around. The husband -- this is in Texas. The husband was in Mississippi on a fishing trip. I don`t know who

was with the children. Maybe Missy thought she could go do her aerobics class -- it`s a very intense Gladiator boot camp -- at 5:00 AM and get home

to get the three girls to school that morning, not too far away from her home.

So let me go back to Andrew Greenstein joining me from KRLD. Let`s start at the beginning because I put the cart before the horse. Andrew, tell me

about -- I`m very intrigued about the mode of entry. Tell me about the different windows that he crashed through. And he couldn`t get in them.

He was just breaking windows.

GREENSTEIN: Well, I mean, I was at the church yesterday, and the only thing that I was able to see -- now, I didn`t, you know, go completely

around the church. So I really couldn`t speak to many of the broken windows.

But I did notice one thin pane of glass on an exterior door that was broken, and the only thing that I could conclude from seeing that was that

he broke the glass and he was able to push the door -- push the little lever that you...

GRACE: And get in the door.

GREENSTEIN: ... open the door from inside and get in.

GRACE: OK, with me, Andrew Greenstein, KRLD. Andrew we`ve got the surveillance video. Let me look at the surveillance video again because --

look at this guy -- they`ve got surveillance, but they didn`t have an alarm, right?

GREENSTEIN: That`s right. Yes, that`s what the police chief said in his press conference yesterday, that the church did not have an alarm. It

doesn`t have any exterior surveillance cameras. They only had surveillance cameras inside the building, and those cameras are activated when there is

motion detected.

GRACE: We`re showing you inside the church right now in one of their contemporary services, the great "I am" on large posters behind every one.

This is a vibrant -- is a vibrant and thriving church.

What I don`t understand is why somebody`s breaking in to steal money. It`s Monday morning. Everybody knows at 4:00 AM that most churches take the

money out.

Question, Andrew Greenstein. The rooms that he was going into -- were they Sunday school classrooms, or was he going into the office to look for the

money?

GREENSTEIN: You know, that`s a good question. And police did not say one way or the other. But one of the things that they did say is that so far,

from what church officials could tell, that nothing from inside the church is missing.

GRACE: I don`t like it. I don`t like it!

Who, you may ask, would know that Missy, a mother of three, was going to be there at 4:00 AM? Now, catch this. She posted on her Facebook, "We expect

it`s going to rain tomorrow. That`s no excuse not to work out. We`re going to work out inside, everybody. I`ll see you in the morning, 5:00 AM,

no excuses."

She`s hard-core working out. So anybody that`s familiar with her Facebook would know she is going to be there the next morning, rain or shine.

Oh, OK, Andrew -- Andrew Greenstein joining me, KRLD, there on the scene. Was this a church-sponsored aerobics class or is it part of that broader

Gladiator boot camp aerobics?

GREENSTEIN: From what I could tell, it doesn`t look like the church had any affiliation with Camp Gladiator. Now, I`m really not clear as to

whether Bevers and her family were members of this church. She may have been, but I just don`t know that information right now. But there is

really no connection between the church and Camp Gladiator, other than the fact that that`s what...

[20:10:18]GRACE: Was it advertised, Andrew? Was it advertised? Like, is there a billboard out front that goes, We have mothers` morning out, we

have Wednesday night supper, we`re having spaghetti and meatballs this Wednesday, we have disciple study, and oh, yes, we have gladiator aerobics

at 5:00 AM?

GREENSTEIN: I did not see anything about Camp Gladiator on the church`s marquee outside the building.

GRACE: (INAUDIBLE) I`m hearing we`re going to a presser right now. Listen.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Approximately 5:00 AM, Midlothian officers and EMS were dispatched to an unresponsive person to the Creekside church in the 5400

block at east Highway 287. Midlothian officers arrived at the location just after fire and department of -- medics arrived on the scene, and the

medics were attending an unresponsive female as officers entered the church.

The officers had noted a lot of glass, broken glass on the floor, and the female -- as well as the female. They started to search through the

building to make sure there were no other individuals in the facility.

During the search, the officers found evidence of forced entry into the building indicating a possible burglary. The entire building was searched,

and nobody was found. After that, the victim was pronounced deceased by Ellis (ph) County justice of the peace Bill Wade (ph), and officers at the

scene located evidence of forced entry. The victim was identified as Terri Bevers, 45 years of age, from Midlothian, Texas. The victim was

transported to the Dallas County medical examiner`s office.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

[20:15:57]UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Surveillance video shows someone dressed in tactical gear with a jacket marked "Police."

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Police say he broke into the church before Bevers arrived, then assaulted her and left her unresponsive. She had signs of

trauma on her body.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: There is no good reason for what happened.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The video shows the intruder wandering the halls but never actually taking anything.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: A beautiful young mother of three -- here she is right there, Missy Bevers, one daughter is as young as 8 years old -- goes to the local

church in Texas for the Gladiator boot camp aerobics class that she teaches at 5:00 AM. She gets there at 4:00. She`s murdered.

The guy is dressed, totally decked out in SWAT, police SWAT, covering everything about him. Even his hands are covered, his face, everything.

He just kind of roams around, going from room to room, doesn`t take anything, kills her, and leaves.

Joining me right now, special guest Sheriff Grady Judd, the Polk County sheriff`s department. Sheriff Judd, thank you for being with us.

I don`t like it. I don`t like it because, you know, think about it, Sheriff -- back me up because this is anecdotal and I could be wrong. But

typically, when you get a church vandalized, it`s youth. Their parents go there. Their grandma goes there. They live in the neighborhood. They go

to the school down the block. And they break in to, I don`t know, steal audio equipment or whatever they can get.

I mean, but what is there to steal in a church on a Monday morning at 4:00 AM, Sheriff?

SHERIFF GRADY JUDD, POLK COUNTY: Nancy, you`re exactly right. The caveat we have to give is we don`t know exactly what happened, and we don`t know

what the local police know.

But I can tell you this from a great deal of experience. He went there and waited on her. This was an intentional act. He went there with all

intents on attacking this woman. We don`t know where the information came from, but at some point in their life, they crossed. They knew each other,

or he knew of her. He knew she was an aerobics instructor. He was infatuated with her.

And you have to look at that whole process. You also have to look at the family, as hard as that is. You have to do a victimology.

GRACE: Well, you have to.

JUDD: Yes, absolutely. You have to tie all this together. But in our organization, we would send an entire team -- and a team for an

investigation such as this would be 40 to 50 people, Nancy.

Now, when I look to see that this wonderful community hasn`t had a murder in seven years, the very first thing the chief probably did was call in

experienced homicide detectives and investigative teams because, obviously, they don`t have the experience or probably the...

GRACE: I`m just telling you -- everybody, Sheriff Grady Judd is with me from Polk County. Let -- let me see the sheriff again. Judd, I have

wandered -- you know my mom, church organist. I have wandered through churches since I was a baby, since I could walk. And I am telling you,

unless he was going in to steal the leftover bulletins from the day before, there`s nothing to steal.

Now, they did have a good take that Sunday, about 13 grand. But notice he`s not trying to break in the office where the money may or may not be.

And why would you go at 4:00 AM?

He clearly knows that he could be on camera, but he kills her in an area where there`s not a camera. And what grown man decks himself out in a full

police outfit, Sheriff?

JUDD: No, that`s exactly right. It`s a disguise. It`s the opportunity to show that he`s in a position of power, that he wanted to take control of

her.

And certainly, she`s a physical fitness expert. She`s strong. She has the ability to put up a heck of a fight. And there`s evidence, there`s lots of

evidence on that scene, and certainly, they should have sent -- and I`m sure they did -- professional forensic teams to have gathered that

evidence.

[20:20:14]This is not a traditional, Let me break in and see if I can find some money or let me break in and...

GRACE: I`m with you, Sheriff, because when I first heard that the police thought, Oh, this is a burglary that she came upon and he killed her -- no.

This guy had his face covered. He could have run if he saw another person there.

What, he thinks that this woman, as physically fit as she is, is a match for him? No. He could have -- even if he wanted to punch her and leave,

he could have done that, but he didn`t.

Dr. William Morrone joining me right now, renowned forensic pathologist. Dr. Morrone, they`re not telling me cause of death but I know that there

was severe trauma. I don`t think he raped her. This was not what this was about. I think he beat her severely.

DR. WILLIAM MORRONE, FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST: And here`s what you`re going to have. Based on severe trauma, and what they`re saying, is there will be

head and neck wounds, and head wounds and neck wounds will be caused by some blunt object like a police baton or a pipe, and other alternate wounds

would be knife-related.

Those items are not found in church. That`s why this is so clearly a homicide. If somebody accidentally got hit by a board, that could be an

accident. But we go to homicide because of the location. And homicide is also a deliberate and unlawful act -- two parts to homicide, deliberate and

unlawful.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

[20:26:02]UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Her last message on social media, Good night, all. I have to get up at 3:30 AM. See you bright and early.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This was not kind of your routine burglary.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She was a very loving mother of three, loved her husband.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Bevers leaves behind three young girls.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: My wife was a very -- she was very passionate about transforming people`s lives physically and mentally.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: That was from ABC`s "GMA," "Good Morning America." Let`s listen to what the husband says.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: During the course of the investigation, detectives located and collected the video. And the video depicts an unknown male

walking inside the church building, dressed in police-type clothing and wearing a helmet and gloves.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: My wife was a very -- she was very passionate about transforming people`s lives physically and mentally.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: That was from ABC`s "Good Morning America," the husband.

Robyn Walensky, senior news anchor, The Blaze network. Robyn, thank you for being with us. This is your neck of the woods. Didn`t the husband say

that he had not had time to process this and begin grieving, that he was tending to the needs of his children?

ROBYN WALENSKY, THE BLAZE RADIO NETWORK: Yes. The exact quote, Nancy, is, "I haven`t had a whole lot of time to get emotional yet. I`ve been dealing

with the needs of my kids." I think detectives, Nancy, are going take -- have to take a hard look at who he`s been keeping company with and perhaps

any other people in her life.

GRACE: Well, Robyn, again, this guy is not a suspect. But it comes with the territory. When your spouse dies, you`re going to be looked at. All

other former boyfriends, the pizza delivery guy, the grocery guy, the banker, the guy at the gas station -- they`re all going to be looked at.

And he is in that pot stewing. And that`s the reality. Does that make him a suspect? No, it does not. Does that make him a person of interest? No,

it does not. That means that is simply where the investigation begins.

So Robyn, where was he?

WALENSKY: He was on a fishing trip. He was out of state in Mississippi. That is all we know about his whereabouts and what he was up to.

GRACE: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! Robyn Walensky, did you say a business trip or a fishing trip? Because I`m pretty sure they got some

fish in Texas.

WALENSKY: It is a fishing trip in Mississippi, we are told. Fishing.

GRACE: OK, this is what we know. The husband, which is everybody`s first question, was out of town in Mississippi. Now, we don`t know what time he

got back. He got back home Monday morning. Another source tells us he heard about this incident, he was told about the incident, and then came

back. He was not in the area.

Now, Robyn Walensky, I want to talk to you about this guy. Could you take that in full? Let me see that in full. Look at him just walking around!

Hold on, Robyn.

Joining me right now is Scott Green, senior digital cell phone evidence expert with Evidence Solutions, Inc. Scott, thank you for being with me.

Why can`t we do a data dump, where you do an entire cell phone blanket, who was using cell phones at that hour, whose cell phone was turned on at 3:30

AM, at that hour?

SCOTT GREENE, SR. DIGITAL/CELL PHONE EVIDENCE EXPERT (via telephone): Well, it`s possible to gather a very large -- it could be potentially a

large list of potential suspects who were attached to the towers that are - - that cover the church property...

GRACE: Well, I know, but can`t you...

GREENE: ... and then cross-reference those with other lists of suspects.

GRACE: Can`t you narrow it down to a couple of blocks?

GREENE: (INAUDIBLE) You can narrow it down to a small number. It just depends upon how large the number starts with. It`s going to be...

GRACE: Well, what I`m -- what I`m saying...

GREENE: ... a significant task.

[20:30:08] GRACE: What I`m saying, Scott Greene, is that cell phone usage can be narrowed down to see within a couple of blocks. If you look at the

aerial, you will see there`s not much around this church. So, that would pinpoint whoever`s cell phone is turned on -- I don`t mean talking, but

turned on at the church. Would that work, Scott Greene?

GREENE: Yes, it would.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

[22:35:00] UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Terri "Missy" Bevers showed up at the church to lead the camp gladiator session. Surveillance shows someone

dressed in tactical gear with a jacket marked "police."

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Police say he broke into the church before Bevers arrived then assaulted her and left her unresponsive.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: A helmet helped hide the intruder`s identity.

GRACE: This young mother of three goes to the local church to teach her usual gladiator boot camp aerobics class. She gets there 4.18 a.m. Little

does she know already there clearly an adult male totally decked out in police SWAT gear covering his face.

Now, he knew, because there`s a sign over on the church that says video surveillance that he would be on camera. How would he know an alarm was not

connected in the church? He broke several glass windows that he couldn`t possibly get in. And then finally got in by breaking through the glass in a

door. OK. We`re going back to the police presser. Listen.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Could not tell from the video if he was armed. He did have some type of object that he was using to pry on doors. The video shows

the suspect, as chief said, walking through the building. We don`t have anything identified yet that`s been stolen but there were several doors in

the church breached by the suspect.

But at this time we don`t have anything -- the church personnel there did not notice anything specifically missing, but we do know he went into

several rooms.

She`s part of camp gladiator boot camp that meets there. The camp starts ony at 5 a.m. She arrived approximately a little after 4 a.m. and was in

the process -- her vehicle was parked by the entry door unloading her equipment. She was actually found by one of the boot camp participants who

got there a little bit early, waited outside for a while, and then once some of the other people arrived they entered the building to go start the

boot camp. And that`s when they located her.

And at that time they assumed she was unresponsive until they saw her injuries and called. There`s no video of the assault that took place. There

is video of Mrs. Bevers when she first enters the church.

We know the time that she entered the church which I believe is going to be around 4.18, again, approximate time. We see her in the video. She`s

walking down the main hallway in the vicinity of where we located her. But when she gets out of the range of the cameras, it doesn`t pick up the

motion and the camera turns off. So, we don`t have anything -- like we said, we don`t have video of the assault actually taking place.

GRACE: That`s from Scott Dorsett`s YouTube page. Everybody that police presser with captain John Span. Very, very important. I want to go back to

sheriff Grady Judd joining me from Pope County Sheriff`s office.

Sheriff, interesting, this person that kills Missy in a church, in the house of God, he knows there`s video surveillance, but he also knows it`s

not linked to an alarm. What does that say, sheriff? Somebody that`s familiar with that church? That`s certainly narrowing things down in my

mind.

GRADY JUDD, POPE COUNTY SHERIFF: Nancy, once again, I believe you`re right. Because when we work these investigations, usually it comes down to

the lowest common denominator. It`s not as complex as certainly it appears from the beginning. This guy had some relationship to the church, to the

community, to her by either going to one of her classes or maybe he`s been stalking her.

You obviously can`t rule out the family at this point in the investigation. And earlier, one of the guests said that it wasn`t sexual related. Sexually

related. You can`t eliminate that at this point because this is obviously a power operation. He wanted control over her. He wanted dominion over her.

GRACE: n a church.

JUDD: He wanted to appoint himself an authority figure.

GRACE: I`m not saying it`s worse because it`s in a church, I`m just saying that`s a whole other layer of psychopathy, to murder this lady right under

the crucifix up on the wall.

Unleash the lawyers. Margie Mow out of L.A., Dennis Cevallos, defense attorney and analyst joining me out of New York. OK. Margie Mow, give me

one good reason when this perp is caught he shouldn`t get the death penalty. And what show police be doing right now?

MARGIE MOW, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: First of all, we don`t know what happened. All this is speculation. We have this video of this man walking in. We

don`t know that he necessarily killed him. How do you know he wasn`t a SWAT officer?

GRACE: Are you serious?

MOW: He has the full gear.

GRACE: Put her up.

MOW: I mean, we don`t know, we don`t have any evidence that he...

(CROSSTALK)

GRACE: Put her up. I`ll tell you how I know he`s not a SWAT officer, because SWAT officers don`t break into churches at 4 a.m. And they also,

SOP, don`t wear the head mask unless they`re in the middle of a SWAT operation. That`s very simple.

[20:40:59] MOW: Maybe he was in the middle of a SWAT operation.

GRACE: OK, I`m going to let you...

(CROSSTALK)

MOW: Somebody else have killed.

GRACE: ... and I will come back to you. OK, Cevallos, jump in.

DANNY CEVALLOS, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Gladly. Well, in this case, the defense is going to have to argue if a suspect is found that he may have broken in

for one purpose but then the reason -- the facts that led to the killing arose spontaneously and were for some other reason.

GRACE: Put him up, please.

CEVALLOS: It`s a stretch, if they find the person that`s in that video because you have them probably commitment some kind of burglary.

GRACE: There we go.

CEVALLOS: But you argue that the moment this happened -- it would spot the moment.

GRACE: Nothing taken. OK. So, that is a line of defense. He breaks in for a burglary and whoops, he murder a mother of three. Do I like it? No. Is it

a line of argument, yes.

CEVALLOS: I`m glad we agree, Nancy.

GRACE: Margie, as much heck as I was giving you, you are right. I can`t technically prove he did it. Maybe a little green man from Mars came in and

killed her and he just happened to be there breaking into the church at the same time and leaving immediately after he killed her.

Chloe Carmichael -- Dr. Carmichael, clinical psychologist out of New York. Dr. Chloe, here`s my question. I`m not suggesting that any murder is worse

because it takes place in a house of worship, but the thinking behind that, that you could be in a church clearly knew about, either grew up in,

attend, have attended, your grandma goes, you have a connection to this place.

CHLOE CARMICHAEL, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: Yes.

(CROSSTALK)

GRACE: In fact, you went to murder there.

CARMICHAEL: It`s a complete act of -- it`s absolute horrendous. It`s absolutely horrendous. I agree 100 percent the idea that this person just

happened to be wearing tactical uniforms and then his purpose was just to come into the church and strut around for no apparent reason.

GRACE: Yet, even his swagger, Dr. Chloe, is telling me something. The way he`s like, I own this place. OK, Justin Freiman. We`re on to an idea. It

doesn`t have to be somebody that goes there, went there, familiar with it, worked there. a, is this a man/woman aerobics class and, b, what is in the

area, who drives by this church?

JUSTIN FREIMAN, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: Well, Nancy, the aerobics class does have men and women. But the area around the church could be key especially

businesses with phones. As you can see, there`s a major highway 287 that runs right by this church.

It`s fairly rural area but there`s a large sports store nearby. And we know there are cameras there facing towards that highway. How many cars could be

going by around 4 a.m.?

GRACE: Not very many.

FREIMAN: It might be able to narrow this down.

GRACE: Hey, Robyn Walensky, senior news anchor with the Blaze Network. Robyn, again, the guy is not a suspect, he`s not a POI, he`s the husband.

What do we know, what does he do, why was he out fishing, when did he get in? Did he fly? Did he get back because he heard about the attack? What do

we know?

ROBYN WALENSKY, THE BLAZE NETWORK SENIOR NEWS ANCHOR: Not much, Nancy. Those are great questions. The only we know is that this couple had three

girls, 8, 13, and 15, he was out of state. But that`s about the end of it. Not too much information being released about him at this time.

[20:45:00] (COMMERCIAL BREAK)

GRACE: A gorgeous young Arlington couple vanish off the face of the earth, no trace left behind. But tonight, their SUVs found in a remote woodland

area.

Breaking right now, we obtain police tips that blood discovered in the home of the couple`s neighbors-turned-suspects along with items of clothing

spattered with drops of blood as well. Do these clothes belong to the missing couple, Patrick Shunn and Monique Patenaude. Also discovered --

this is not good -- a bag, rubber gloves, a tarp and towels.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Crews are continuing to search for Monique and Patrick.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Detectives believe Patrick and Monique were murdered.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Monique complained to the county reporting Reed was squatting on his former property then the couple went missing.

Detectives say the brothers kidnapped and murdered the couple coming back to their former property shortly after the crime.

GRACE: To Dillon Honcoop joining me, KGMI. Dillon, thank you for being with us. Hey, Liz, let me see the photo. It looks like possibly a wedding

photo. OK. Hold on the photo, please. Dillon Honcoop, the items of clothing that were found, wasn`t it jeans and overhauls?

DILLON HONCOOP, KGMI 790 NEWS HOST: Yes. Stained in blood.

GRACE: OK.

HONCOOP: And the blood stains around the bathtub. This is all over this man`s former home. I don`t...

(CROSSTALK)

GRACE: What I`m saying, Dillon, when you look at Monique, I just don`t see her in overhauls. That had to be the perp`s clothing.

HONCOOP: Absolutely. And it was in their home. It was not in Patrick and Monique`s home, which again they`re neighbors, but this was all evidence in

their home as well as the rubber gloves and, like you said, bags stained with blood, blood all over the vehicles.

And another thing that they found at the home was a trail actually connecting through the back country of back kind of secret shortcut to

where their vehicles were found. And so, that`s another element of this that I don`t think people have been focusing on. That they could have

easily been back and forth between those residences really without anyone seeing them go.

GRACE: Dr. William Maroney, renowned pathologist. Dr. Maroney, I just don`t understand why, if these two are dead, their bodies have not been

found?

[20:49:57] WILLIAM MARONEY, PATHOLOGIST: Well, what we`re looking at is two crime scenes. One of the crime scenes is going to be when the bodies

are located if they had not been serially chopped up, destroyed or burned, and that the original crime scene will be exsanguination death stabbing

that one can sharp force trauma.

So, we have two different crime scenes. And sometimes you use one scene to give you an idea of where the other one is going. More forensic evidencec

is going to be needed.

GRACE: I got you. I got you. You know, Stacey Newman, also on a story what I`m really focusing on right now is the cell phones, because it`s a very,

very bizarre trail, Pat and Monique`s cell phones leak. In a nutshell, Stacey, tell me what the times of their cell phone used.

STACEY NEWMAN, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: Well, the important when to focus on is 3 a.m., about 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., 3 a.m. what a cell phone mapping shows

is the phones moves two miles west of the couple`s home. Then three hours later, the phones were back in the area of where the couple`s home was.

GRACE: OK. Let me get my mind around what you just said. Dillon Honcoop, KGMI. So, he, the husband is finally going to work about an hour -- an hour

away that morning. She is spotted as well, OK, then it seems as if, according to their cell phones around 1 or 2 o`clock in the afternoon, they

both leave and they come back to the home. That`s 2 o`clock in the afternoon.

Now, they stay there, the cell phone stay there turned on until 3 a.m., 3 a.m., 3 a.m., the cell phones both leave the home, they`re gone for about

two or three hours, then the cell phones come back to the home around 3 p.m. and then friend`s show around 4.30 and the couple is not there. What

is that telling you about the cell phones, Dillon?

HONCOOP: Well, this is so disturbing, Nancy. Because the question is what was happening for that 12 hours from when we know Patrick via his cell

phone being got home from work. They were supposed to, as we`ve talking about go to a concert that night.

That`s when they dropped off the radar screen. People couldn`t a hold of them but their cell phone says they physically or at least their ecll

phones were there at home until 3 o`clock in the morning. What was happening to them at that point. And then why did they go this home, again,

where evidence and blood has been found and then those cell phones came back to their house after all of that. It`s very bizarre.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This search warrant reveals Monique Patenaude and her husband Patrick Shunn were afraid of John Reed, their former neighbor. The

document states Reed made threats to, quote, "shoot the couple" and acted crazy toward Monique and Patrick over a long-standing property dispute.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We believe that there was some property disputes between Mr. Reed and Patrick and Monique.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Detectives found the couple`s jeep and Land Rover in an embankment.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: Dillon Honcoop, KGMI, now, the neighbor`s car has been found in Phoenix. They ditched their car, their Volkswagen, which I think belonged

to their parents, and we believe they are in a, like a 2002 Gold Honda, and that tag number has been spotted by a car tag grabber, right?

HONCOOP: Exactly right. And their guess is, this was in Calexico, California yesterday, a 2002 Gold Acura, 32T, and now they are wondering,

and believing likely these two guys, John Reed and Tony Reed could be headed for Mexico trying to flee the country.

GRACE: Oh, dear lord in heaven. Liz, pull up that video. I tell you what this whole thing is about, Dillon, and jump in if I`ve got it wrong. So,

there was a big landslide, so these guys property was basically condemned by the government and bought out. And they have been angry and squatting

ever since and they get mad at this couple for reporting the squatting. Listen to this guy we believe killed or kidnapped this couple. Listen.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The side of the hill, just you can see the leaves all cluttered real fast, and then immediately everything came down and I

remember when it hit that water, man, I mean, everything just went up and started turning and twisting, and I mean, it was hiding in between.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: If you looked at this guy, because according to police, he has blood on his hands.
