FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: Happening right now in the NEWSROOM, Denmark on high alert, the FBI now helping Danish authorities piece together what led to a terror attack on a free speech forum in Copenhagen and what the FBI says are similarities to the Paris terror attacks.

Also, I speak exclusively with Lars Vilks, the Swedish artist who survived that attack.

Plus -- so much wind it nearly knocks over this reporter in New England. The snow and now bitter cold there, too.

And ceasefire are still holding between Ukraine's military and pro- Russian separatists.

The NEWSROOM starts right now.

Hello again, thanks so much for joining me. I'm Fredericka Whitfield.

We're following some fast moving developments today after a pair of deadly shootings in Copenhagen, Denmark yesterday. Two suspects are now under arrest. The suspected gunman dead, and now the FBI is on the terror case.

It all began yesterday when a man targeted a free speech forum attended by a Swedish artist known for his controversial depictions of the prophet Mohammad. 55-year-old film director Finn Noergaard and three officers were wounded.

Ten hours later, a second shooting took place outside a Copenhagen synagogue. A 37-year-old man providing security was shot and killed and two officers were wounded. This afternoon, Denmark's TV 2 broke news that two people were arrested at an Internet cafe and we're still awaiting word on whether they might be related to the case.

That cafe is a few hundred yards from where police killed the suspected gunman earlier today during a shoot-out. Police say surveillance video helped lead them to the 22-year-old man who has a criminal record and who police say may have been inspired by the Paris terror attack.

A U.S. official tells CNN the FBI is now assisting with the investigation. The chief of the Danish security and intelligence service had earlier

said quote "there is a good reason to believe this is terror related and therefore we are treating it as if it is terror," end quote.

We are covering all the angles of the story this hour with CNN senior international correspondent in Copenhagen, our Nic Robertson and in Washington, former FBI assistant director Tom Fuentes and CNN's Erin McPike in Washington.

Let's begin with you, Nic, in Copenhagen. What can you tell us about the arrests made today?
