Hi, there. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood with big news breaking today - to catch a thief? The strange life of Lindsay Lohan reached a whole new level today with the accusation that this time she may have stuck her neck out too far and put a stolen necklace around it.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT confirmed today that police are investigating whether Lindsay Lohan may have lifted an expense of necklace from a jewelry store. And if she did, I can tell you that Lindsay`s previously drug and rehab troubles may wind up paving a path that leads directly to jail.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice-over) A troubled starlet determined not to go back to jail. The cops, hot on her trail, all surrounding a mysterious necklace that may have been stolen or borrowed, depending on whom you ask.

This morning on the "Today" show, analysts were saying that Lindsay Lohan is in deep trouble.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: If this goes back to the same judge and she`s arrested for this conduct, she`s going to prison.

MATT LAUER, CO-HOST, THE "TODAY" SHOW: I believe the legal term for this is oy.

ANDERSON: While brand-new reports today show Lindsay just may be in the clear.

NINA PARKER, PRODUCER, TMZ: If we`re going by track record, then I`ll say she`ll go free.

ANDERSON: It`s a Hollywood heist mystery that deepens by the hour. Lindsay Lohan and the case of the nicked necklace.

The Los Angeles District Attorney`s Office confirms to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT it`s deciding whether to charge Lindsay Lohan for the theft of a $2,500 necklace.

It was allegedly stolen from this Venice, California jewelry store.

PARKER: They claim Lindsay Lohan came into their store in late January. They say shortly after Lindsay left, they noticed that the necklace was missing.

ANDERSON: The mystery plot thickens. After the alleged theft, celebrity web sites started posting photos of Lindsay wearing what they say is the necklace in question. That got the cops` attention.

PARKER: There was a first warrant that was issued for Lindsay`s house.

ANDERSON: But before the police executed that warrant, this case took a strange turn. The LAPD tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT someone returned the elusive necklace to a police station. Not that that clears Lindsay.

PARKER: The return of the necklace doesn`t really have anything to do with the case as far as the LAPD is concerned. They actually still turned the evidence over to the district attorney who still has to decide in if Lindsay Lohan committed the act of grand theft.

ANDERSON: Lindsay Lohan has yet to say anything publicly about the case of the nicked necklace. But TMZ`s Nina Parker tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, behind the scenes, Lindsay reportedly is saying it`s all a misunderstanding.

PARKER: She claims the store loaned her the necklace.

ANDERSON: This isn`t the first time Lohan`s been linked to missing luxury items. Back in 2008, she was sued by a college student who claimed Lindsay swiped this fur coat from her in a night club.

That coat was returned and the case was settled. But this alleged jewelry heist is a much more serious matter.

PARKER: If they decide to prosecute her, you know, she could definitely face some jail time.

ANDERSON: Lindsay`s on probation for a drunk-driving conviction. And her compliance has been so spotty a judge has threatened to toss her in jail for six months if she violates again before her next hearing later this month.

So a grand theft conviction for a jewelry heist would be the last thing she needs.

PARKER: This would not be good for her. She would certainly face jail time, not only for the crime but for violating her probation if she`s convicted.

ANDERSON: But SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, today, there reportedly are signs the case of the nicked necklace might end with Lindsay wiggling off the hook.

PARKER: The surveillance video doesn`t prove a lot because there`s no sound to it. It`s going to be kind of her word versus the jewelers`.

ANDERSON: So now, the case of the nicked necklace is unsolved, and we`re all waiting to see how this mystery will end and what other trouble Lindsay may get into before it does.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

The drama surrounding Lindsay seems never ending, but this case could be the one that ends up costing her the most.

And that bring us to our SHOWBIZ Flashpoint today - could Lindsay go to prison for all this crazy necklace drama?

Right now, in New York, Sunny Hostin who is a legal contributor on "In Session" on our sister network, Tru TV. And in Hollywood, Wendy Walsh, who is a TV journalist and doctor of psychology.

Sunny, out to you first, this is serious. We are talking about possible felony grand theft charges. So to our SHOWBIZ Flashpoint, could this land Lindsay in the slammer?

SUNNY HOSTIN, LEGAL CONTRIBUTOR, "IN SESSION" ON TRU TV: Yes, yes, yes. I mean, she`s already on probation. The judge made it very clear that if she did anything like this, commit a crime, get arrested, do anything outside of the bounds of her probation, she would go back to jail for 180 days.

And I`ve got to tell you, it seems to me that if a judge needs to determine whether or not he`s going to believe Lindsay Lohan or a store, he`s not going to believe Lindsay Lohan because of her track record.

ANDERSON: Yes. The judge in her case is definitely not playing around. Well, TMZ, though, is reporting today that Lindsay might walk away scot- free because the jewelry store waited more than a day before reporting the theft.

Does that matter? Should that matter? Wendy, does that even make sense to you?

WENDY WALSH, TV JOURNALIST AND DOCTOR OF PSYCHOLOGY: Well, it sort of means that they maybe want to get some publicity. They were waiting to see if she was going to return it.

I think this is a big miscommunication. Stars borrow jewelry all the time. My instinct tells me that Lindsay is not like a Winona Ryder shoplifter. This is not what we`re seeing here. I think that she`s a target for all kinds of publicity right now.

ANDERSON: OK. So you`re giving her the benefit of the doubt, even though she has a horrible track record.

WALSH: Even though she has a bad track record, she is vulnerable of attacks of people wanting to get notoriety. You have ever heard of this jeweler before? But now, we all know, right?

ANDERSON: OK.

WALSH: I think there`s a big communication piece of this puzzle missing and we`re going to help put this puzzle together.

ANDERSON: Well, is it just me or, ladies, shouldn`t this be a time in Lindsay`s life where, you know, she`s lying low. She`s focusing on getter her life back together.

But it seems like no matter what Lindsay does, she find as way to get into trouble. So Sunny, do you think like Wendy that she just attracts bad attention right now? Or does she just always have incredibly poor judgment?

HOSTIN: I think she has incredibly poor judgment. I don`t believe this was some sort of misunderstanding at all. I think it`s odd at best that the necklace miraculously appeared at the police station.

If there was some sort of misunderstanding and she, in fact, this necklace that was loaned to her, why not return it back it to the jewelry store? That makes no sense to me whatsoever. When I put my prosecutor hat on, I think she`s going to jail.

ANDERSON: Something`s a little fishy to you, huh? Well, we`ll have to wait and see what happens with that. It is very, very strange.

I do want to move to brand-new explosive developments in Charlie Sheen`s incredible reported party binge and subsequent rehab.

Today, Charlie Sheen speaks to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. He says, quote, "I have a lot of work to do to be able to return the support I have received from so many people."

"I want to say thank to you my fellow cast members, the crew of `Two and a Half Men` and everyone at CBS and Warner Brothers, especially Les Moonves and Bruce Rosenblum for their concern and support."

"And to my fans, your good wishes have touched me very much. Like Errol Flynn, who had to put down his sword on occasion, I just want to say `thank you.`"

OK. Wendy, I don`t know, is it just me or should Charlie maybe not be doing just all this apologizing and maybe say, "You know what? I`ve got issues. Here`s what I`m dealing with and I`m serious about it." That statement - all he did was say thanks.

WALSH: You know what he was doing? He was saying thanks for your support, but what he really meant was, thanks for your enabling, because that`s what Hollywood does.

You know, I`m sure my colleague Dr. Drew Pinsky would agree with me that 30 days does not make a new man. And this sort of homebound rehab is a little fishy to me.

ANDERSON: And I think I misspoke. I said he was apologizing in that statement. He`s not apologizing at all. He`s just saying I appreciate everybody`s support.

WALSH: Yes.

ANDERSON: He needs to say, "I`m sorry for what I`ve done, especially to my family, and here`s what`s happening."

WALSH: And if he wants to keep living, he should take a big break and get himself healed, because as long as he makes money for the studios, they will keep enabling him and supporting him.

ANDERSON: Well, let me talk about that, because Charlie`s publicist tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT that he`s planning to come back to work very soon, saying, "My understanding is that he will be back on the set at the end of February."

Sunny, that`s less than 30 days. Is it troubling to you that he`s already planning to go back to work?

HOSTIN: It is. It just the craziest thing. This statement was so cavalier, like comparing himself to Errol Flynn? I mean, are you kidding me, Charlie?

Bottom line is he`s a very, very sick man. I completely agree with Wendy. They are enabling him. His fans are enabling him. You know, his family is enabling him. His employer is enabling him. Everyone is enabling him.

ANDERSON: And Charlie`s just saying everybody just needs to lighten up. This whole thing is overblown. Hopefully, the people around him will realize they cannot lighten up and that this is serious.

Sunny Hostin, Wendy Walsh, thanks, ladies. Good to see you.

Well, Kim Kardashian is going topless - surprise, surprise - again. Wasn`t she just crying about some other nude photos that she posed for? Seriously, Kim, what`s the deal here?

Nicole Kidman`s shocking new revelations today about her divorce from Tom Cruise. Why she says the split left her damaged.

And Jennifer Aniston`s big new "Friends" confession today. She turned down "Saturday Night Live" for "Friends."

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SANDLER: I remember being on the ninth floor where Lorne Michaels` office was. And seeing Jen come in I said, "Oh, my god, there`s Aniston. Is she about to be on our show?"

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Was this the best gamble of Jen`s career? We are debating that, coming up. This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN news and views.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.

And right now, explosive revelations about the day Michael Jackson died. Michael Jackson`s personal doctor, Conrad Murray, is scheduled to go on trial next month in connection with Jackson`s death.

Now Dr. Murray`s friend is speaking out for the very first time about the startling phone call that she received from Murray the day Michael Jackson died. Watch what she revealed today on "Good Morning America" about what she heard on the other end of the phone.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SADE ANDING, DR. CONRAD MURRAY`S FRIEND: And I heard coughing, like - and like mumbling of voices. He never got back on the phone and then I hung up and I kept calling and calling and I kept texting him. And then, I never heard from him and I felt like something was wrong.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: ABC News correspondent Ashleigh Banfield joins me now for a SHOWBIZ newsmaker interview. Ashleigh - you saw her there. She`s the one who sat down with Dr. Murray`s friend.

Ashleigh, it`s unbelievable. I was watching it. And Sade Anding is claiming that she heard what could have been Michael Jackson`s last breath.

Here`s my question. Do we know why Jackson`s doctor, Conrad Murray, called her at this time? Was it just to check in, "Hey, how you doing? What`s up?"

ASHLEIGH BANFIELD, ABC NEWS CORRESPONDENT: That`s a great question and it`s a question she still has, Brooke, if you can believe it.

In fact, she said to me in that sit-down interview, "I wish I had just shut up so that I could have known more because the line sort of went dead," but for the sound of the pocket dial, the muffled sounds, the coughing, the heavy breathing.

She said she listened for about five minutes. When she finally hung up, she dialed back. She texted and never got the response back, but she knew once she heard the news that Michael Jackson had died, she knew, as she says, "I`m in it."

ANDERSON: Well, I`m sure that a lot of questions for her are still unanswered. And I was really shocked when she broke down.

She said she felt guilty about talking to Dr. Murray and taking his call at the same time that Michael Jackson could have been dying. I want to take a look now at what she told you about that specifically.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ANDING: It made me sad. I feel like it was my fault, that I really felt like if he wouldn`t have called me, maybe all that stuff that happened wouldn`t have happened.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Oh, that`s terrible. So she actually feels like somehow she may have prevented Murray from helping Jackson on the day he died.

Ashleigh, based on what Sade told you, did she make a case to convict Conrad Murray of involuntary manslaughter when he heads to trial next month? Because she feels he`s incapable of that, right?

BANFIELD: I would actually say no. I pointedly asked her, do you think he`s capable of the recklessness that he`s being accused of? And she said, no, definitely not. Not at all.

And when I pushed her further on why she felt somewhat responsible, she did mitigate that a bit, Brooke, by saying, "Honestly, I just feel as though I`m sad that I was involved at all."

But she said she had absolutely no knowledge of his medical treatment of Michael Jackson. She knew nothing about propofol, nothing about sleep treatments, nothing about his care of the superstar.

And she was very clear that while she felt bad about all of this, she certainly did not feel responsible.

ANDERSON: We know the police interviewed her about that phone call. Quickly, how credible do you think she is as a witness?

BANFIELD: Well, she was on the stand in the preliminaries and was quite clear when she was asked, "Are you Conrad Murray`s girlfriend?" She said, "No. He called me his girlfriend. I was not."

That said, she also accepted a number of cash gifts in the way of tips and a cell phone and a dress and a spa treatment.

She said they only went out for dinner two times, but they certainly weren`t in a romantic relationship. But she had a lot of details. So you know, it`s -

ANDERSON: Yes.

BANFIELD: It`s anybody`s guess and it`s really, I think, going to be a jury`s guess.

ANDERSON: Fascinating interview. Ashleigh Banfield, great job. Thank you so much.

BANFIELD: Nice to see you.

ANDERSON: All right. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is about to now name the most provocative celebrity of the week. I want you to vote, too, on this. We`re going to name them tomorrow so you`ve got to vote.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: All right. Did you se this? Check out Rachael Ray. She shows some skin in her sexy "Dancing with the Stars" dress today.

But why was Rachel so nervous, so scared about doing this? I think Rachel looks great. She has been absolutely terrified about this moment, though.

Let me explain. Rachael is a huge "Dancing with the Stars" fan. She`s even ready to compete on the show, but she said she would never, ever go on because of the sexy, skimpy dresses.

The show`s designer was mad so he made a dress specifically for Rachel. She was so nervous about wearing her sexy dancing dress.

But when she took off her robe to reveal the dress, she got a big surprise from "Dancing with the Stars" hunk, Tony Dovolani.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ROBIN WILLIAMS, ACTOR: Totally. This is the big one. This is the one where they`re dealing with the ticker. The only other one that`s more invasive is brain surgery.

The idea that they`re going into that, on the heart, stop the hart, work on it, restart it. Good luck. You`re back.

WALTERS: Had you not had that surgery, you might not have been able to walk your beautiful daughter down the aisle.

BILL CLINTON, FORMER UNITED STATES PRESIDENT: You know, whenever I get discouraged about, first, one thing or another, I think of the enormous gratitude that I feel for that. That was one of the best days of my life, one of the most important days of my life.

ANNOUNCER: TV`s most provocative entertainment news show continues right now.

(MUSIC)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood with big news breaking today - Kim`s naked truth.

Yes, it`s true. Kim Kardashian is taking it all off again. Shocking, I know. In a brand-new magazine spread for a U.K. men`s magazine, Kim goes pretty much topless in a racy new photo.

And of course, it`s all happening the very same week that Kim was bawling on her reality show, "Kim and Kourtney Take New York" over a nude photo shoot in "W" magazine.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KIM KARDASHIAN, REALITY TV STAR, "KOURTNEY AND KIM TAKE NEW YORK": like I`m so upset. I was told that artwork was going to be covered on top of me, that they weren`t going to show my ass crack or my nipples. This is (EXPLETIVE DELETED) porn.

I feel so (EXPLETIVE DELETED) taken advantage of. They promised me I`d be fully covered. Did you see the inside? I just am never getting naked again.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Be careful what you say. Kim may have spoken too soon because her brand-new provocative photo is just the latest body-baring bombshell making big news.

OK, just look at this. She cried over the "W" nude photo spread. She has a brand-new provocative belly-baring Super Bowl ad for Skechers. And who can forget she tweeted a photo of herself posing in a super skimpy swim suit. You see that?

And look, no one is saying she doesn`t look great in these photos, because she does. She`s beautiful. But come on, I really don`t think she has to keep baring her body to get attention.

I want to ask entertainment journalist, Kelley Carter, now the SHOWBIZ Flashpoint - Kim Kardashian exposed again. Kelley, keep it up or cut it out? What do you think?

KELLEY CARTER, ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALIST: You know what? If you`re Kim Kardashian, you have to keep it up. She knows where her bread is buttered. People love Kim Kardashian because she`s very sexy and it`s one of the reasons she was the highest paid reality TV star last year.

ANDERSON: Kelley, I get that. I understand that she has become very successful because of her body and how she looks. I just think she`s got more to offer.

CARTER: you know, I think she has more to offer, too, because the fact of the matter is she`s a very savvy business woman, very sharp, knows what she`s doing, knows how to market and brand herself.

However, the reason why people want Kim Kardashian on the covers of their magazines is because they know they`re going to sell a lot and they`re going to sell a lot because she`s going to pull off a very sexy pictorial.

That`s the reason why she`s on magazine covers in the first place. She knows that and that`s what these magazines want out of Kim Kardashian.

ANDERSON: TV journalist and doctor of psychology, Wendy Walsh, to that SHOWBIZ Flashpoint, Kim Kardashian exposed again, do you think she should keep it up or just cut it out?

WALSH: She should absolutely keep it up. Why is she stopping at nipples and butt cracks? Come on, Kim, this is your image. We all want to see it.

If she wants to change her image, she should follow around Angelina Jolie, show that she has a heart or show us that she`s more of a businesswoman. But for now, this is what we get and we love it.

ANDERSON: Why am I the lone ranger here? Why am I on a desert island all by myself? I don`t get it, Wendy. Why?

WALSH: Not every woman has to be a fully evolved powerful woman with emotional and mental powers. She can just be hot and we love it.

ANDERSON: I had high hopes. All right. I was just handed the explosive results of the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT exclusive poll and we asked, "Kim Kardashian cashing in on her sexy image: Anything wrong with that?"

Forty-eight percent say, yes, there is something wrong with that, but 52 percent, the majority, say no, nothing wrong at all.

So 52 percent, including Kelley Carter and Wendy Walsh and probably all the people who are buying the magazines and watching Kim`s show.

Kelley, so, yes, to you, it makes sense that she`s doing what she`s doing, right? Posing provocatively any chance she gets. That`s her business.

CARTER: Absolutely. Absolutely. I mean, she knows that`s what`s working for her. That`s one of the reasons why her name is constantly out there is that she tweets sexy photos of herself and she poses for them, you know, for magazine spreads. And that`s why we love her. And keep it up, Kim.

ANDERSON: I just think she`s got more to offer. I want to see something surprising, something different from Kim Kardashian.

All right. I`ve got to move now to another big star baring it all today. Nicole Kidman is baring her soul about her marriage to Tom Cruise.

Kidman was married to Tom Cruise for 10 years and it`s been about 10 years since their divorce. But today, she`s really opening up for the very first time about why they split up.

She seems to put some of the blame on his celebrity. She tells "Marie Claire U.K.," "I knew he was a really big star, but after a while, to get to a real place in a relationship, that has to wear off."

"As a couple we were very private, we were very tight, and that`s why we lasted 10 years. That was a great relationship. I think it ran its course. I was never seeking to be a celebrity, but I was prepared to do that for love."

I`ve got to say I don`t think I have ever heard Nicole so candid about her years with Tom. Wendy, were you surprised that Nicole finally opened up so much about that part of her life? And is this a way to kind of put it behind her?

WALSH: Yes, I`m not sure why she opened up. My suspicion is that some journalist just happened to ask her and so that was tweeted around the world, her answer.

But I`m always (UNINTELLIGIBLE) when I hear celebrities say "I never really wanted celebrity." Then you know what? So stay at home in your community theater (UNINTELLIGIBLE).

(CROSS TALK)

ANDERSON: Don`t marry Tom Cruise.

WALSH: Don`t marry Tom Cruise and then another famous person afterward.

ANDERSON: Yes, it is interesting. Well, she also revealed that getting over Tom was hard. But then, she met her current husband, Keith Urban.

Kidman tells "Marie Claire U.K.," quote, I was really damaged and not sure whether that was ever going to happen again to me."

Kelley, do you get the sense she`s able to open up now because she is in such a good place?

CARTER: Absolutely. You know, it really seems like Nicole Kidman has the best of both worlds now. She still is doing work she loves in Hollywood, but gets to live far away from Hollywood and really far out of the spotlight that a lot of high-powered celebrity couples, unfortunately, live in when you live in a town like Los Angeles.

So I think she`s just really happy, in love and is finally able to talk about, you know, something that, quite frankly, we`ve been wondering about since the two got divorced in the first place.

ANDERSON: Yes. And I admire her candor. I really do. Yes, she and Keith Urban are very happy in Nashville. And now, they have a new baby girl to celebrate.

All right. I got to move now, though, ladies from one class act to a couple of sad cases. "Jersey Shore`s" Sammi -

WALSH: In Hollywood?

ANDERSON: Yes, can you believe it? "Jersey Shore`s" Sammi and her fist- pump regrets. Remember this?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GIANCOLA: Are you friends with her or not?

MAGRO: I don`t want to talk to you.

GIANCOLA: This is my last time trying. Are you friends with her?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Now, Sammi is speaking out for the first time today about punching her on again/off given boyfriend, Ronnie, in the face.

She tells TMZ today she feels terrible about it. In a new interview with TMZ, Sammi alongside her "Jersey Shore" roommate, Deena, says she`s regrets what she did.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I see you got away with a punch.

GIANCOLA: Violence is not the answer.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, it is.

GIANCOLA: No.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It made for good TV.

GIANCOLA: Violence is not the answer.

DEENA NICOLE CORTESE, REALITY TV STAR, "THE JERSEY SHORE": Not for nothing, but you gave him the hook.

GIANCOLA: Deena, I`m actually appalled and disgusted at myself.

CORTESE: It`s all right.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Really? Why?

GIANCOLA: I think it`s gross.

CORTESE: I feel like everybody makes mistakes.

GIANCOLA: You`re right, everybody does make mistakes and that was a low point.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: It really was a low point. Wendy, it was absolutely deplorable, what she did. Is her public apology enough or should she face some consequences?

WALSH: It wasn`t just deplorable. It was a violation of the law. This is clearly domestic violence. And if this is supposed to be a reality show, where`s the reality? Where`s her arrest?

We have such a double standard. Had her boyfriend punched her on the show -

ANDERSON: It would be a different story.

WALSH: Guaranteed, he`d be arrested.

ANDERSON: Well, speaking of consequences, we did see that "Teen Mom`s" Amber Portwood was given a tiny bit of jail time among other consequences for hitting the father of her child, Gary Shirley, on TV. Kelley, quickly, 10 seconds, should Sammi be taught a lesson?

CAREY: I think she should be, because, you know, Wendy`s right. If the shoe were on the other foot, we would be up in arms about what we saw happen on the show.

ANDERSON: Yes, it was absolutely disgusting. Well, Sammi`s not the only one who has got a situation today. There`s another "Jersey Shore" situation brewing. What do you get when you mix Justin Bieber and The Situation?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SORRENTINO: And I`m here to tell you about pimping Justin Bieber`s movie, plus Valentine`s Day. What does that equal to? Situation zone.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Professor Situation? I can`t wait to see how this one turns out. You`ve got to see how The Situation takes on Bieber fever. Kelley Carter, Wendy Walsh, thank you both.

All right. I got to move now to Jennifer Aniston`s dramatic "Saturday Night Live" confession revealed today.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SANDLER: I remember being on the ninth floor where Lorne Michaels` office was and seeing Jen come in. I went, "Oh, my god. That`s Aniston. Is she about to be on our show?"

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Aniston says no to "SNL" and yes to friends. Was this the biggest gamble of her career?

An "American Idol" mystery. Idol`s very bizarre apology for Steven Tyler. It was really an apology, though? This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN news and views.

Now, the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

TEXT: J. Lo and Marc Anthony to watch Super Bowl at the White House with the Obamas. "Beavis and Butthead" to return to MTV this summer.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BUTTHEAD: Beavis, that manager dude from Burger World, he says you have to go to work right now.

BEAVIS: No way. That sucks! It sucks! Hey, how come you don`t have to go to work?

BUTTHEAD: Because I`m like, busy watching TV.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. And there is big bombshell news breaking in "The Buzz Today."

Jennifer Aniston sets the record straight today about why she said no to "Saturday Night Live" but yes to "Friends."

Plus, Chris Brown`s incredible "SNL" surprise. Also, "American Idol`s" over-the-top apology mystery solved today.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice-over) "Idol`s" apocalyptic apology. "American Idol" is begging fans` forgiveness for judge Steven Tyler`s, quote, "outrageous behavior."

Wednesday`s show began with a big fat sorry announcement which declared, quote, "Mr. Tyler has been warned and assures us it will never happen again."

During last week`s show, Tyler joked to a contestant that his last name of "Muck"(ph) rhymes with an obscenity. Many believe the big "our bad" is tongue-in-cheek against viewers who complained.

Live from New York, it`s Chris Brown. Chris has just revealed he`ll be a performer for his "Saturday Night Live" debut. He`ll be the "SNL" musical guest alongside Russell Brand on the show`s February 12th episode.

Jennifer Aniston`s "SNL" snub. Jen has just revealed her big "Saturday Night Live" secret. Aniston appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" with Adam Sandler and announced that she turned down a job offer on "SNL" while Sandler was a cast member to join "Friends" instead.

SANDLER: I said oh, my god. There`s Aniston. Is she about to be on our show? Going in, having a talk, leaving. I was like, "Wow, I`m going to be working with Aniston." And then she said no? She said no and she`s going to do that "Friends"? What the hell is "Friends"?

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: OK. The guys at "SNL" thought Jen made a huge mistake. But did she really? That brings us to our SHOWBIZ Flashpoint - was taking "Friends" over "Saturday Night Live" the best gamble of Jen`s career?

Syndicated radio host, Brotha Fred, joins me from Chicago. Brotha Fred, to our SHOWBIZ Flashpoint, what do you think? Was it the best gamble of Jen`s career?

BROTHA FRED: I think so and I think she`s reminded of that every time she gets a royalty check in the mail from the millions of stations that syndicate the "Friends" show.

And that`s all I know really about Jennifer Aniston, is her association with that show - the hair cut, the whole thing. Yes, that was a pretty lucky gamble.

ANDERSON: No kidding. K Foxx, radio host for New York`s Hot 97, joining me now. K, I agree with Brotha Fred. It was a really smart move.

"Friends" made her a star. Like he said, she`s still raking in the dough from syndication. What do you think? Best gamble of her career?

K. FOXX, RADIO HOST, HOT 97: Best gamble of her career, hands down. I mean, when you think of Jennifer Aniston, you think of the all-American, safe girl. She has the perfect look.

And all the roles that she chooses as far as movie roles are concerned, they`re totally safe. There`s nothing three dimensional about her roles. So, there you have it.

ANDERSON: I have to say "SNL" was tried and true at that point. "Friends" wasn`t guaranteed a second season. So it was a huge risk and it definitely paid off. Smart girl in that regard.

Well, Jennifer Aniston may have turned "SNL" down but Chris Brown may use his "SNL" invite for his ultimate redemption. Two years after Chris Brown`s brutal attack on Rihanna, he is set to appear on "Saturday Night Live" February 12th.

Chris is done with his court-ordered domestic violence counseling and he`s got three Grammy nominations and a highly anticipated new album.

Brotha Fred, will his "SNL" performance further help him put the Rihanna beating behind him, help him quiet all the people who thought his career was toast?

BROTHA FRED: Well, he has a little song, "Yeah Three Times," the song that`s kind of catchy. But you know, Rihanna still has the restraining order out against him.

And I think if she wanted to be really mean, she could, you know, show up in the audience and want to see Russell Brand host. And I don`t know what he`s going to do. He can`t come out.

ANDERSON: Well, we know that "SNL" - I don`t think Rihanna would do that. And we know that "SNL" never ducks a controversy, though, right? And his attack on Rihanna was highly controversial.

So K Foxx, do you think that "SNL" would dare to go there with a sketch about Chris and Rihanna?

FOXX: You know what? I really hope not, because anything concerning domestic violence is definitely not funny. And plus, it may open up a few wounds that aren`t healed just yet.

You know, that`s a very, very touchy subject. But I really hope that they don`t. Will they? Maybe, but I hope they don`t. I wouldn`t buy (UNINTELLIGIBLE).

ANDERSON: Yes, I hope they don`t as well. All right. I`ve got to move now to the "American Idol" apology mystery.

Wednesday`s show began with this weird onscreen apology from "Idol" producers for Steven Tyler`s, quote, "outrageous behavior." They never exactly explained what Steven did to warrant an apology.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT reached out to "American Idol" reps for an explanation. We have not heard back as of show time. Brotha Fred, did you get the sense that this was a sincere apology or just some sort of stunt?

BROTHA FRED: No, this is a stunt. Give "American Idol" credit for delving further into the stories about these contestants, like the guy, Chris Medina, who is a Chicagoan, who`s staying with his fiancee despite a brain injury.

And there are amazing stories if you had less of the gimmick and more of the sort of the personal touch. But they`re trying to create a bad boy out of Steven Tyler and he`s not going to be Simon Cowell. He`s not a replacement.

It`s a different shtick and it really isn`t as good. And he needs a new plastic surgeon. With all that money, the guy - I don`t know what`s going on. Looks like an old leather purse or something.

ANDERSON: Give him a break. I think he`s doing all right. And you know, I think he is kind of bringing "Idol" some of the edge they lost when Simon Cowell left the show.

I`m going to disagree with you, Brotha Fred, because we do know there are low points, but there are high points, of course, with Steven Tyler as well on the show. K Foxx, do you think Steven is, in some ways, the new Simon?

FOXX: He is definitely not the new Simon because he`s not a mean person. But I think that he`s a rock star in full effect. And that`s what we need, that rock star, raw, pure energy and that`s what he brings.

I love him. I love it. He`s funny. He knows the music and he`s talented. He`s a rock star.

BROTHA FRED: He hits on 16-year-olds.

ANDERSON: Yes. Simon Cowell is irreplaceable, we know that. But I think Steven Tyler`s doing all right. I`m enjoying the show. Brotha Fred, K Foxx, thanks, guys.

All right. We have a major situation going on today. "Jersey Shore`s" The Situation has got a really bad case of Bieber fever.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SORRENTINO: You know, I`m here to tell you about pimping Justin Bieber`s movie. Plus, Valentine`s Day. What is that equal to? Situation zone.

JUSTIN BIEBER, POP STAR: I`m Justin Bieber. And you just graduated.

SORRENTINO: Pimp 101, (EXPLETIVE DELETED).

ANDERSON: I`m sorry. How cute is the Bieb? "Jersey Shore" star, Pauly D, also did a commercial with Bieber for Bieber`s new film, "Never Say Never."

So I`m thinking that we may see a Snooki-Bieber ad soon as well. Who knows?

All right. From Bieber`s situation showdown to Bieber teaching Regis Philbin how to Dougie. Bieber was on "Live with Regis and Kelly" today to talk about his brand-new film, "Never Say Never."
