(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Grandma and grandpa bring sexy back? The controversy over the hot new reality show. It`s a little bit "Jersey Shore" and a little bit "Golden Girls."

ANNOUNCER: TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.

(MUSIC PLAYING)

ANDERSON: Hi there. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood with big news breaking today - two Sandra shockers. The other shoe has definitely dropped in the cheating scandal surrounding Sandra`s husband. And we learned today she has now officially filed for divorce.

But get a load of this. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT obtained an advanced copy of "People" magazine`s upcoming new issue today. And look at that blaring headline, "Meet My Baby." You heard right. Sandra is a new mom.

And in her very first interview since the cheating scandal rocked her life, she reveals that she secretly adopted a baby. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the story behind the story that made headlines around the world today.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice-over): It`s big news today as Sandra Bullock reveals to "People" magazine that she has not only filed for divorce from Jesse James, but she has been secretly raising a son since January.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has obtained the divorce documents filed in Austin, Texas, on April 23rd. Sandra tells "People" magazine about the split, quote, "I am sad and I am scared."

But if you thought that would be the most shocking headline today, it`s not. Meet Sandra`s brand-new bouncing baby boy - Louis Bardo Bullock, or Louis for short. She calls him her little man.

DAVID CAPLAN, SENIOR WRITER, "PEOPLE" MAGAZINE: Sandra`s new baby was three-and-a-half months old. He was born in New Orleans. And that`s a city where Sandra really said she`s had a strong connection with.

ANDERSON: Sandra Bullock describes this time in her life as the end of one love and the beginning of another. She named her son Louis because when she held him for the first time, she thought of Louis Armstrong`s famous song, "What a Wonderful World."

Somehow, Sandra has managed to keep Louis a secret. Until now, he`s been tucked away in her ultra-private world, safe from the frenzy of her big Oscar win -

SANDRA BULLOCK, ACTRESS: Thank you so much.

ANDERSON: And safe from the relentless media attention since news broke in March that her husband, Jesse James, had an alleged stripper mistress.

CAPLAN: Sandra tells people that really keeping Louis secret was essentially like a CIA type of mission. She says she relied on really close friends and family only. For her, it was releasing the information on her own terms.

ANDERSON: The shocking news today that Sandra has filed for divorce only makes her exciting baby news all the more bittersweet, especially after Sandra revealed to "People" magazine that she and Jesse started this adoption process together more than four years ago. But now, Sandra will adopt Louis as a single mom.

CAPLAN: Right now for Sandra the focus really is on Louis.

ANDERSON: Jesse James is devastated, to say the least. He tells "People" magazine, "The decision to let my wife end our marriage and continue the adoption of Louis on her own has been the hardest. The love I have for Louis cannot be put into words. Sandy is the love of my life."

But Sandra tells "People" she still wants Jesse deeply involved in her son`s life saying, "I really don`t know how our paths will intersect in the future, but the father I have known Jesse to be with all the kids is the one that I hope Louis can experience one day, no matter how Jesse and I go on with our lives."

Sandra says this last month has been turbulent and she`s changed dramatically. But surprisingly, she isn`t bitter.

CAPLAN: Sandy does not lash out at Jesse, which is what many people would have expected just given the situation involving adultery.

ANDERSON: Sandra tells "People," "The truth is simple. The things I hold most dear are the things that could not have happened without Jesse." She calls her relationship now with Jesse, quote, "A different one, a bittersweet one, one of a new understanding, one of forgiveness, one of support for his recovery, one that changed my life."

And now, with the mystery of what happened behind the scenes with Jesse in full light, Sandra says she`s putting her career on hold for a while to focus fully on her new son. Her hopes for his future are simple, "To know love, lots of it, that he sees that life`s sorrows don`t eliminate the great joys, that he was wanted so much by two people who loved each other."

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Like so many people today I couldn`t help thinking, how in the world did Sandra keep this mother of all secrets? And is she really kicking Jesse to the curb once and for all?

Right now in Hollywood is Ken Baker who is the executive news editor for "E!" Also in Hollywood is Wendy Walsh who is a TV journalist and doctor of psychology.

Wendy, Ken, I expected Sandra to divorce that lying, cheating, selfish husband of hers. That was not a surprise to me.

But the baby news today came out of nowhere. Ken, were you as shocked as I was, not that she adopted, because that`s just a testament of how giving and how selfless she is, but that she was able to keep this a secret?

KEN BAKER, EXECUTIVE NEWS EDITOR, "E!": I have to say, yes - shocked, surprised, mystified as to how she was able to keep this under wraps since January. Now, when I stopped to think about it though, it sort of made sense how she did this, because she was living primarily with Jesse, an hour`s drive south of Hollywood at a beach house in Orange County.

No one was going down there and following them. There weren`t paparazzi down there. She was living a very quiet life in relative seclusion. I can see how she would get away with it.

Also, she was spending time in Texas. There`s no paparazzi there. She was very well secluded there. So when you really start to think about it, you could see, "Well, we saw a lot of Sandra. But then again, it was on red carpets. It was at events. It was junkets." You can see how it could happen.

ANDERSON: That`s true. But she still was in the spotlight and she still was followed a little bit. So I think at times it was probably was comparable to a covert military operation, keeping it under wraps.

That said, though, in the new interview in "People" revealed today, Sandra says this about her husband cheating ways. She said she had no idea what he was doing.

Here`s what she said she`s learned from the whole ordeal. "Maybe I needed this to happen so that I could be the very best mother to Louis. We wouldn`t know the sweet moments in life unless we had the pain. And painfully, I`m going to miss so much."

Obviously, she`s still very hurt by Jesse. Who wouldn`t be? But she still wants him to be involved with her new baby boy. Wendy, I think that`s pretty darn amazing. What does that tell you?

DR. WENDY WALSH, TV JOURNALIST AND DOCTOR OF PSYCHOLOGY: Well, it tells me she has a lot of emotional maturity at this time. And remember, this is the beginning of a very long process of separation or reconciliation between her and Jesse. Obviously, the divorce is imminent, and she wanted him to stay involved in the child`s life.

ANDERSON: Yes.

WALSH: And why not? The more people who can love a child or a baby - why not? But it`s -

ANDERSON: Exactly.

WALSH: Definitely showing that she has a lot of emotional maturity.

ANDERSON: She wants to keep her family intact. And Sandra`s bombshell revelations today also included her saying that she`s taking her relationship with Jesse day by day.

So I`ve just got to ask, did Sandra leave the door open of the saving her marriage? Could they get back together again? We`re back in just 30 seconds.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: So was Sandra Bullock hinting today that she might get back together with Jesse James? Back now with Ken Baker from "E!" and TV journalist Wendy Walsh.

And I want you to take a look at what Sandra said about her future with Jesse in the new "People" magazine revealed today.

Here it is, "I really don`t know how our paths will intersect in the future, but the father I have known Jesse to be with all the kids is the one I hope Louis can experience one day no matter Jesse and I go on with our lives."

And when asked if Jesse will be an active parent in Louis`s life, she added, "I will be adopting as a single parent. Anything else will be taken day by day."

Ken, does it sound to you like she`s leaving the door open a bit here to getting back together with Jesse? That`s what some are saying. But I really don`t see that happening.

BAKER: Well, technically, if you look at the verbiage and you really analyze what she wrote, yes, the door is open to taking Jesse back. It clearly is something that she`s not saying is not a possibility.

However, if you break down the reality of the situation, it seems very highly unlikely and I would not bet on it. But you know what this reminds me of is about 2003. Brad - not Brad. Sorry.

Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton. They were in the process of adopting their first child, Maddox. And what happened there? She ended up basically saying, "I`m going to adopt him on my own."

ANDERSON: Yes.

BAKER: And she went off and did that on her own. And Billy Bob has never been a part of Maddox`s life. What`s interesting here -

ANDERSON: True.

BAKER: She`s being very adult and very much saying, "You know what? I`m open to Jesse being part of his life, but we`re going to figure it out."

ANDERSON: Well, and that`s what Wendy just said. Yes, that she`s being mature about this. Wendy, very quickly. Do you think that Jesse stands a chance, though, of a reconciliation?

WALSH: I like to say never say never. Everybody has the potential to change. He certainly has great motivation to want to change.

And she has motivation to want to have him as a father in her child`s life. So you know, the future is for us to watch and them to experience. But they`re still in thick of a lot of pain and turmoil right now.

ANDERSON: Yes. And I agree, never say never. But I don`t know. I feel like that ship has sailed. And I think Sandra showed incredible restraint, by the way, in talking about her cheating husband.

So the big question that a lot of people have today - why didn`t Sandra slam Jesse? He cheated on her while they were trying to adopt. Does that make Jesse an even bigger dog? Ken baker, Wendy Walsh, stay right there. Thanks.

OK, Sarah Palin versus Oprah. Yes. Could Sarah Palin`s incredible star power eclipse Oprah Winfrey? A shocking new claim. The incredible evidence of Sarah`s star power. Is Sarah bigger than Oprah?

And sexy seniors are getting ready to take over primetime. Everybody is talking about the brand-new reality TV show, "Sunset Daze." Hook ups in hot tubs. Dirty dancing in night clubs. It`s sort of like "The Jersey Shore" meets "The Golden Girls."

ANDERSON: Hey, welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. Get ready because we are revealing "People" magazine`s pick for the world`s most beautiful person. And Conan O`Brien is ready to tell all about his messy "Tonight Show" exit. It is all making news in "The Buzz" today.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice-over): Conan O`Brien tell all? The former "Tonight Show" host is set to break his silence about his messy NBC breakup on CBS` "60 Minutes."

The gag order NBC negotiated with O`Brien expires on May 1st. And "60 Minutes" plans to air the big interview the next day. Conan signed a deal that doesn`t allow him to publicly slam his former network.

But according to a "New York Times" blog, in the interview, he, quote, "flirts with those restrictions."

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Jake and Chelsea.

ANDERSON: The bachelor gets booted from "Dancing with the Stars." Jake Pavelka just got kicked off the hit dancing show. The former star of "The Bachelor," who is now engaged, was clearly upset at being voted off. But he says the show was a great experience.

JAKE PAVELKA, FORMER CONTESTANT, "DANCING WITH THE STARS": I can`t even put into words how much I`ve enjoyed this.

ANDERSON: Julia Roberts is still the most beautiful woman in the world. That`s according to "People" magazine`s brand-new list of the most beautiful people.

Roberts, who is now 42 years old and the mother of three kids, headlines the list. The new issue doesn`t officially come out until Friday. But SHOWBIZ TONIGHT got a first look and we can tell you, you`ll also see Scarlett Johansson, Jake Gyllenhaal and Rihanna.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

So did you hear that? Julia Roberts is now four-time cover girl for "People" magazine`s most beautiful person. And at 42, I`ve got to hand it to her. She looks incredible.

But that`s not all. We can tell you there are some new faces, too, with pretty big star power behind them.

Right now, in New York is Galina Espinoza who is the senior editor for "People" magazine.

Galina, we`ve got to start with this year`s cover girl, Julia Roberts. I personally cannot believe it`s been 20 years since Julia made her glamorous debut in "Pretty Woman."

GALINA ESPINOZA, SENIOR EDITOR, "PEOPLE" MAGAZINE: I know -

(CROSS TALK)

ANDERSON: I`m feeling pretty old, right?

ESPINOZA: And the amazing thing is that she looks -

ANDERSON: Galina, at 42 years old, Julia getting better with age. So how did she wind up back on the cover this time around?

ESPINOZA: Well, at the age of 42, the ripe old age, as she puts it, of 42, she`s the newest spokesperson for Lancome. And of course, you look at her, you can understand why they selected her. She just conveys this incredibly relatable beauty. I mean, she`s someone who doesn`t live on the red carpet anymore.

ANDERSON: Yes.

ESPINOZA: She retreated from Hollywood. She`s raising her three kids. She just seems so down to earth, and yet so gorgeous. I mean, who wouldn`t aspire to that?

ANDERSON: And so happy. She radiates happiness. She`s got this glow that is just unmistakable.

ESPINOZA: And she`s got -

ANDERSON: And I want to get to a newcomer on the list. From a four-timer to a newcomer, we`ve got Gabourey Sidibe. Gabourey really made a name for herself with her powerful performance in the film, "Precious."

She tells you, guys - she tells "People" magazine that she knows the secret to feeling good, "I had to learn to like myself and take the way I look out of the equation." Now, she`s taking some heat for her weight, but that`s not getting her down.

Galina, I think her inner confidence is a big part of what makes her beautiful.

ESPINOZA: And that`s exactly what captivated us. If you watch the Oscar telecast, she was up there on stage with all the other nominees, and she was vamping it up. She was working the room.

And I mean, good for her because as she says in her interview, she learned that had feeling beautiful is really not about the exterior.

ANDERSON: That`s right.

ESPINOZA: It`s just about embracing who you are, and she has truly done that.

ANDERSON: And I have spoken to Gabby numerous times. She is a delight. Galina Espinoza, thank you so much. And to see who else made "People`s" most beautiful list, you can pick up a copy of "People" magazine on newsstands, Friday.

DEGENERES: Right.

SIMPSON: But I don`t brush them every day. I just - I use a shirt or something. I know it`s gross. It`s gross, but I always have fresh breath. It`s really weird like I have great breath.

DEGENERES: It`s not just about the -

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Seriously, Jess? I`m sure you know this, but the American Dental Association recommends brushing at least twice a day. I`m just saying. Thankfully, though, Jess is a flosser.

ANNOUNCER: TV`s most provocative entertainment news show continues right now.

(MUSIC PLAYING)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It is 30 minutes past the hour. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood with big news breaking today - Sandra`s revelations. Sandra Bullock finally breaking her silence since Jesse James` cheating scandal rocked her world upside down.

And Bullock dropped a whole boatload of bombshells today in a brand- new interview with "People" magazine including the revelation that she adopted a baby boy from New Orleans.

The one thing that Sandra did not do was slam her cheating her husband, Jesse James. And I think that was the right decision on her part. But could anybody blame her if she had?

With me today from Hollywood, Ken Baker, who is an executive news editor for "E!" Also from Hollywood, Wendy Walsh, who is a TV journalist and doctor of psychology.

Ken, Wendy, I`ve got to begin with Sandra Bullock`s brand-new revelations about the moment she learned that her husband Jesse James had been cheating on her. She tells "People" magazine the first thing she thought about was her newly adopted baby boy, Louis.

She says, "All I remember is thinking, `I need to get Louis out of here before the vultures descend.` But never in a million years did I foresee something like this happening. I wish it hadn`t. And it still, still doesn`t seem real."

She also confirmed she did indeed file for divorce and she said she is sad. She said she`s scared. And I read that and I`m thinking, wow, Sandra handled all of this with such grace, such dignity. She let Jesse off easy.

Wendy, would anyone have blamed her, though, given her any grief today if she did slam him?

WALSH: They may not have given her grief, or they might have given her grief. But the truth is she took the high road and that`s very Sandra Bullock of her.

You know, I can understand how she`s sad and scared. Becoming a single mother, no matter how much money you have is a terrifying thing. Up all night without a partner helping you when the baby has a fever or ear infections is a terrifying thing.

So my heart goes out to her. Yes, she took the high road with Jesse. And I think that was very good of her.

ANDERSON: I do, too. I applaud her for being dignified. She is a class act. And you, guys, take a look at this. In an interview with Niecy Nash at the People`s Choice Awards, just months after the whole Tiger Woods cheating scandal broke. Listen to what she says she would do if she were Tiger`s wife.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SANDRA BULLOCK, ACTRESS: Oh, if I were Elin, man, I would have hit a lot more than she did. I would have kept hitting.

NIECY NASH, REPORTER: You would still be swinging the golf club?

BULLOCK: Yes, she stopped. She was respectable. I`d get the baseball bat. I`d get everything out.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: OK. Granted she is a comic actress, she`s trying to be lighthearted here. But if Sandra had responded this way in her new interview with "People" magazine about her husband Jesse, Ken Baker, do you think anybody would have blamed her?

BAKER: No. No one would have blamed her at all. But for the record, we have to know that there was a short period of time, like perhaps a day, where Sandra was living in the same house with Jesse when she found out about these alleged affairs.

So we don`t know exactly what happened in the heat of passion there when she found out. I`m not saying anything, but who would blame her? Let`s face it. One thing, guys, there`s a notable piece of irony here.

The "People" magazine issue in which she comes out and discloses this new adoption is the Most Beautiful Person issue of "People" magazine. Sandra Bullock easily - the way she`s been handling this with such grace and beauty, she`s the most beautiful person in Hollywood, hands down.

ANDERSON: Amen to that, Ken Baker. Hands down, she is. I agree with you on that. And I agree with everybody about her being so classy, not sinking to Jesse`s level in how she has handled this.

And you know, besides her revelations today about her marriage falling apart, my heart just broke for her when she described the lengthy process she had to endure to adopt her sweet baby boy.

She tells "People" this, "We began the process of adoption about four years ago never thinking about what the child would look like, whether it was a girl or a boy, what background. It didn`t matter. We somehow knew the right little person would come."

It took them four years to adopt little Louis. And considering that Jesse had intended to build this sweet life with Sandra and a new baby four years ago, and he was apparently cheating on her during that time, Wendy, it makes him look like an even bigger dog than we first thought he was.

WALSH: You know, men have this wonderful or not-so-wonderful ability to compartmentalize where he could actually be a really great father, a really great husband and then go to another mental compartment where he literally has no morals or ethics and seems to have forgotten who he was.

And obviously, that`s what he did psychologically to deal with this. And now, look where he is.

ANDERSON: Ken, as a man, what do you think about that?

BAKER: That`s what I was thinking right there. You know, but at least, it made me think about, you know what, human beings can do a lot of interesting things. And compartmentalizing - I don`t even know the word.

WALSH: Compartmentalizing.

BAKER: That is something we all do, I guess, to some degree. But I do remember - the last time I heard that word was when Hillary Clinton said, "I need to do this to move on because of what Bill Clinton did to me."

So I think, we all do it in our own way, compartmentalizing - there you go. I got the word. But I do think this - I think the idea that what Jesse did is just so egregious. It`s so over-the-top.

WALSH: Yes.

BAKER: Even the most forgiving person - and Sandra Bullock - how can she really take him back?

ANDERSON: That`s right. Well - and they say, you guys, that every dog has their day. And Jesse got to say what was on his mind.

"People" magazine revealed today a brand-new statement from Jesse who says, "The decision to let my wife end our marriage and continue the adoption of Louis on her own has been the hardest. The love I have for Louis cannot be put into words. Not having him around to love and to hold has left a huge hole in my heart. Sandy is the love of my life."

"But considering the pain and devastation I have caused her, it would be selfish to not let her go. Right now, it is time for me to beat this addiction that has taken two of the things I love the most in life."

I`ve got to say, it`s a well crafted statement. But Wendy, I think talk is cheap. His actions while he was cheating on Sandra certainly didn`t show that he loved her.

WALSH: Well, I think his future actions will really, just like with Tiger Woods, be what remains to be seen. And the truth is, here`s a guy who messed with the gravy train. And now, he`s trying to get back in line there. So he`s going to do whatever it takes. And let`s see if he can do it.

ANDERSON: Yes. And let`s see him treat Sandra and his family with the respect that they deserve. And, you know, I just couldn`t get over, you know, him calling her the love of his life, really.

I just can`t - I`ve got to go back to this because I can`t understand why he would cheat on her if she were the love of his life because I`m not buying he did it just because of a sex addiction. Ken, it just does not make sense to me.

WALSH: I can tell you.

BAKER: Well, no. I mean -

ANDERSON: You tell me, Wendy. Go -

BAKER: Well, go ahead, Wendy. You go ahead.

WALSH: It`s about lack of compassion, lack of empathy, and ability to compartmentalize and a little bit of selfishness. And also, men also - there`s a study on this, OK, Ken, that men feel a lot less guilt than women do. So he may have loved her and wanted her, but he didn`t have compassion for what she was feeling.

BAKER: I think it goes back to what Brooke said. It`s like, do you believe in the idea of sex addiction in the first place? Because if you do, then you`ll say he has a disease. If you don`t, you`re saying this guy is just using it as an excuse. He`s just a dog.

ANDERSON: Right -

WALSH: It`s not a disease in the DSM 4 at all. It`s not listed as a mental illness at all in the Diagnostic Manual of Mental Disorders so, at this point -

(CROSSTALK)

ANDERSON: You know, you guys - yes, I think he`s just selfish. He just lies. He is just disrespectful. And Ken, I think you are one great man. I`ll just say that.

WALSH: Put up with that.

(CROSSTALK)

ANDERSON: Ken Baker, Wendy Walsh, thank you both. Good to see you. So what do you think? Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.

OK. So Tiger is on the road again, trying to focus on golf, trying to put his cheating scandal behind him. But will it be that easy? There`s still probably a lot of women who would want to hook up with Tiger, even after all the disgusting things that he did. So would he be tempted? Check out Tiger`s press conference today.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Was there trepidation on your part to get back on the road because of that possible temptation?

WOODS: No, not at all. Not after what I`ve been through and the treatment and, you know, all my peers.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: This guy tries to behave himself. OK, just in today, Sarah Palin tops Oprah Winfrey. It`s the blockbuster new report today claiming now that the former vice presidential candidate is worth $12 million, has two TV gigs and has a rock star following everywhere she goes. So is Sarah bigger than Oprah?

Plus, a sizzling controversy today over a new reality show being described as "Jersey Shore" meets the "Golden Girls." Think making out and drinking but minus the fist pumping.

Right now, in New York, is Cathy Areu - she is the publisher of "Catalina" magazine. And in Hollywood is Kim Serafin - she is the senior editor for "In Touch Weekly."

Cathy, Kim, I`ve got to star with this explosive new cover story, "Palin, Inc" in "New York Magazine." It`s all about Sarah Palin`s undeniable star power.

But you`ve got to listen to the line that really jumped out at me today, "People said she could be another Oprah. But now, in many ways, she`s bigger than Oprah for people who feel rightly or wrongly that America has forgotten them."

I think for that segment of the population Sarah Palin is bigger than Oprah. I agree. But Cathy, do you think that somehow Sarah`s popularity can eclipse Oprah`s wide reach?

CATHY AREU, PUBLISHER, "CATALINA" MAGAZINE: For those people - yes. I agree with you. For a certain group of people, she is bigger than Oprah. But for a certain group of people, she`s talking to them.

I mean, Oprah`s message - Brooke, I took notes on my hand. I pulled a Palin, if you don`t mind. But Oprah message is -

ANDERSON: Oh -

AREU: Yes. Oprah`s message is of hope and happiness. And Sarah Palin`s message is of fear and hatred. And some people are going to respond to the hope and happiness. Some people are going to respond better to the fear and hatred and negativity. And for those people, yes, Sarah Palin is bigger than Oprah Winfrey.

ANDERSON: Whoo. You know, it gets personal when Sarah Palin`s name comes up with you, Cathy. I think I can safely say that you`re not one of her supporters that has helped her achieve -

AREU: I`m an Oprah supporter.

ANDERSON: This level of success or popularity. OK. Well, this jaw- dropping "New York Magazine" article goes on to quote a Fox News executive who says this about Sarah Palin, "People are drawn to her. People look at her and say, `She has a bunch of the same troubles I do. There`s a mom who is there changing diapers.`"

Kim, let`s get your thoughts. Is Sarah bigger than Oprah because she`s got the mom factor, too? She`s doing the Oprah thing, managing a growing empire with books, TV shows and she`s got five kids to boot.

KIM SERAFIN, SENIOR EDITOR, "IN TOUCH WEEKLY": Yes. You know, anything Oprah touches turns to gold. And Sarah Palin is kind of showing that she can do that, too.

When she goes on Leno, the ratings go up. She went on Oprah, Oprah had her best ratings in two years. I mean, Sarah Palin has only been around in the public eye, at least nationally and internationally, for about two and a half years. And yet, she has this much influence.

And I know she does definitely appeal to the right-wing of the party, to people who wear Benjamin Franklin costumes at tea parties rallies. But obviously, it`s not just those people who are buying her book and tuning in to these shows that she`s on.

It`s a lot of other people. I think people are drawn to her because she`s a mom, because she`s a woman, because she`s independent. So even if you don`t agree with her politics, you can say, here`s someone who is a role model, who does set an example.

Her show about Alaska is not going to be about fear and hatred. It`s going to be about something that she loves. And I think when she does stand up on "Leno," it shows that there`s this whole other side of her. She marches to the beat of her own drummer. That`s what Oprah does.

ANDERSON: Yes.

SERAFIN: And I think she maybe one day could give Oprah a run for her money.

ANDERSON: And I`ve got to say, Oprah is not mad at Sarah Palin. Oprah herself couldn`t deny Sarah`s star power when Sarah was on the "Oprah Show" last November. Oprah asked Sarah about getting her own talk show.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

OPRAH WINFREY, HOST, "THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW": I have heard that you`re going to get your own talk show. Come on.

FMR. GOV. SARAH PALIN (R-AK): Oprah, you are the queen of talk shows. There`s nothing to ever worry about. The inspiration that you have provided - I got to talk to Oprah just a little bit backstage before. And I talked about - in the `90s.

Those were the years where I was a stay-at-home mom, got to watch more than I watch you now. But got to watch you back then, and been quite inspired by some of the challenges that you were facing and you overcame those, too. Just seeming, too, as a normal American woman.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: So I`m just going to say this. Whether or not you like Sarah Palin, you do have to give her some credit for connecting and energizing a huge group of people.

All right. I do have to move now to the new reality show with grandpa and grandma taking on Snooki and The Situation. It`s called "Sunset Daze" and it`s being described as "Jersey Shore" meets the "Golden Girls."

And just like their younger "Jersey" counterparts, there`s drinking, partying and the mission to join the mile high club. Watch.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yoohoo!

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Hit them blasters, will you? You`re going to have to go a mile. Can you go a mile and a half?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Trying to take advantage of me.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Really? Hello. Trying to get in her pants the last five, six years.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: My clothes are on, and they`re going to stay on.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: They aren`t going to be on after this.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Cathy, 10 seconds. Must see TV?

AREU: Totally. I love it. They have freedom. They have nothing to lose. They don`t have any bosses or parents to answer to. They`re going to have a blast.

ANDERSON: Oh, my goodness. OK, right now. I`ve got to talk about this. Heidi Montag`s face-off with her mom over her new face. You know that old saying, "She`s got a face only a mother can love?" Well, I`ve got to tell you, Heidi`s mom? Not so much.

Cathy, Kim, stay put. It`s the face-off we`ve all been waiting for, and it`s just moments away.

And now, the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today. Check it out.

TEXT: Jerry Seinfeld`s wife wins court fight with cookbook author who claimed plagiarism. "Supernanny" Jo Frost says she`s ready to give up ABC show after next season.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: We are back with Cathy Areu, publisher of "Catalina" magazine and Kim Serafin, senior editor for "In Touch Weekly."

Right now, Heidi Montag`s plastic surgery face-off with her mother. Heidi heads from "The Hills" to her hometown in Colorado. And for the very first time, we are seeing Heidi Montag`s mom with her explosive reaction to Heidi`s dramatic new look after having 10 procedures. The bandages were off and so were the gloves. Watch.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HEIDI MONTAG, REALITY TV STAR: Do I look good?

DARLENE EGELHOFF, MOTHER OF HEIDI MONTAG: I mean, how do I go and say, of course I thought you were more beautiful before. I thought you were younger. I thought you were fresher looking. I thought you were healthier.

What`s done is done so that`s a terrible thing for me to say. But yes, that`s how I feel. I felt you were much more beautiful before and I`m hoping that some of this will fade away, go away.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Heidi`s mom very upset, but I think she had to tell Heidi exactly how she felt, even though it`s not at all what Heidi wanted to hear. Cathy, are you with me? That`s what we mothers do sometimes, right?

AREU: No. I don`t know. We have to be there, Brooke. I mean, she needs her mommy. She`s in pain. She can`t jog. She can`t hug anyone. Apparently, she can`t eat. She can`t chew. She needs her mommy. She is in pain. So she was looking to her mommy to say, "Look, I`m in pain. But how do I look?" Mommy should you have said, "You`re OK, honey. You`re OK."

ANDERSON: No, no, no. I look to my mom for brutal honesty. And I think Heidi`s mom was gentle about it. And you`ve got to see Heidi`s response to her mother`s no-holds-barred reaction to her new face.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MONTAG: You don`t have to support it or think it looks good, but you have to realize what I have been through. And you have to realize that I`ve been through so much pain and coming here and having you attacking me is just really hard.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: I`m sorry. What was that? OK. What is really disturbing to me is that it hurts Heidi to cry because of all that surgery. And Heidi says she felt attacked by her mom.

Kim, I`m hoping that this might the brakes on Heidi getting more surgery. Do you think that this tough love will work? Or do you think Heidi is too far gone?

SERAFIN: I think she`s too far gone. I think she continues to get publicity when she does things like this, and I think that`s what she lives on. That`s what fuels her.

You know, a lot of times in reality shows, it`s not real. Sorry to ruin it for anyone, but I really think this was real. I think her mom saying this to her. Her mom was genuinely upset. I think Heidi was genuinely upset.

We couldn`t really tell because her face wasn`t moving much, but I think she was, too. I think this was a real moment. I think Heidi needs to stop. But until people stop giving her publicity, she`s not going to.

AREU: Oh.

ANDERSON: Yes. I think it was a very tough real moment for both of them. And moral of the story, go easy on yourself, people. None of us needs 10 plastic surgeries in one day.

Cathy Areu, Kim Serafin, thanks, ladies. Good to see you.
