(MUSIC)

Hello. I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City. Brooke Anderson has the night off and tonight another unbelievable Britney Spears` shocker. This one sounds out of a prime time crime show. The LAPD is telling SHOWBIZ TONIGHT that they`re investigating whether someone has been drugging Britney Spears out of her mind. Now, this is something we have heard people wonder about before.

But now that the cops are involved, well, that opens up a ton of new questions like, who would do such a thing? Has a crime been committed here and will somebody be arrested for it?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

(voice over): In the Britney Spears fiasco, the mess is being sorted out by two separate yet equally important groups. The courts, who referee the squabbling between the various Britney factions and now the police, who decide if someone needs to go to jail. These are their stories.

Britney Spears and her mental health issues are already a matter for the courts. But now, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you that cops are getting involved, too.

KATIE DARYL, TMZ TV: We`re used to her always being the one as the focus of attention. So the thought of someone else in trouble, it is sort of a relief.

HAMMER: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you that Los Angeles Police Department is finally confirming that they`re checking out claims that someone`s drugged Britney Spears. The LAPD tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT that it is, quote, "Looking into the possibility that a crime was committed. If a crime has been committed, investigation will be opened." So the same police department depicted "Dragnet" is now in the middle of a Britney drugnet.

DARYL: There`s not a formal investigation and no names have been named. We don`t know. It`s a lot of, like, question marks right now.

HAMMER: Questions like, will this soon turn into a criminal investigation? And if so, who would be the suspects? SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, no one is being named yet. But word that the cops are looking into whether anyone`s drugged Britney Spears comes less than a month after Britney`s family formally accused someone of doing just that.

DARYL: Boy, we definitely are looking at Sam Lutfi.

That`s Britney`s ex-companion who liked to call himself Britney`s manager. The first thing Britney`s parents did after Britney was deemed mentally unstable and a court gave them control over her matters was kick Lutfi to the curb.

DARYL: Right now, there`s a restraining order against him and he`s nowhere to be seen in Britney`s life.

HAMMER: Here`s why they sought that restraining order. In these court papers obtained by SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, Britney`s mom, Lynne, says Mr. Lutfi drugged Britney and tried to take control of her life. She says that Lutfi once told Lynne, quote, "He grinds up Britney`s pills. He told us that he puts them in her food."

And it doesn`t get much more disturbing than this. In the court papers, Brit`s mom tells the court that Sam, quote, "Told me that if he weren`t in the house to give Britney her medicine, she would kill herself. Then he said to me, `If you try to get rid of me, she`ll be dead and I`ll piss on her grave.`"

MICHAEL SANDS, SAYS HE`S SAM LUTFI`S SPOKESMAN: Yes. Of course he gives Britney a prescription cocktail with different medications for her issues.

HAMMER: This man, Michael Sands, calls himself Lutfi`s spokesman. Not very long ago, he told SHOWBIZ TONIGHT that, yes, Sam did give Britney drugs but he says it was all for Britney`s own good. But here`s the big question.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE REPORTER: Was she aware that he was putting the medication in her food?

SANDS: That I really don`t know.

HAMMER: For now, neither Sam or his self-described publicist is talking about the LAPD`s action. And we should stress again, the LAPD isn`t even mentioning Lutfi or a possible criminal investigation. But even though Lutfi appears to be out of Britney`s life for now, there are still a lot of unanswered questions about what role he might have played in Britney`s troubles.

DARYL: One minute, Sam Lutfi is just Britney`s friend and seen as sitting shotgun in the vehicle. Next minute, he`s her manager. And now, all of a sudden, what is he? Dr. Lutfi giving Britney Spears drugs?

HAMMER: As the LAPD continue its drugnet, there`s a sinking feeling that there may be more twists to come in Britney`s "Law and Order-like" saga.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

So was somebody secretly crushing pills into Britney`s food to control her behavior? Wow. Did I just say that? You really can`t make this stuff up.

Joining me from Hollywood, Atty. Darren Kavinoky. Here in New York, anchor of Tru TV`s "Hollywood Heat," Ashleigh Banfield.

All right, Darren, Ashleigh, we mentioned the police aren`t naming names. In fact, we mentioned it several times. Britney`s mom, Lynne, does accuse Sam Lutfi of drugging her daughter as part of the restraining order. Lynne says that Sam was trying to put her in a sleep-induced coma. Ashleigh, these are truly unbelievable charges. The cops are now involved. So do you see anyone going to jail over this when the dust settles?

ASHLEIGH BANFIELD, HOST, TRU TV`S "HOLLYWOOD HEAT": I think it`s a case of a lot of ifs right now. That is if they actually decide on a full-blown investigation. If they can actually find evidence that supports anything. If they can find witnesses who will actually testify to something to this extent. If they can get Britney to talk to some extent. If the victimization of Britney is actually significant and if they decide to file charges. It`s a long step. It is a long way to go.

HAMMER: A lot of ifs all in capital letters. What do you think, Darren? I mean, I hate to use the clich' that I used a moment ago and I`ll use it again. You can`t make this stuff up. Where do you think this is taking us? What road are we traveling here?

DARREN KAVINOKY, ATTORNEY: Oh, it`s a crazy road to be sure. I don`t know if anybody`s going to jail. These are tough, tough cases to prove unless there`s smoking gun evidence, some witness coming forward or something really solid to rely on.

But I loved this whole idea of the sleep-induced coma. I used to watch that show "Friends" and I remember Joey playing a character, Dr. Drake Ramoray and this sounds like something that Dr. Drake Ramoray might cook up. You know, if the brain transplant doesn`t work, well, try the sleep-induced coma. It`s just bizarre, so it will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

HAMMER: All right. Joey Tribbiani to the rescue. Now, there have been a lot of question marks to be sure surrounding this guy, Sam Lutfi, trying to understand his role in Britney`s life. Let us say this investigation into whether or not Britney was drugged doesn`t go anywhere and Sam Lutfi is not called into question of it.

OK. Well, Lynne Spears filed court documents under oath accusing Lutfi of doing all kind of things including cutting Britney`s phone lines, verbally abusing her and let`s not forget that he initially dodged the restraining order that was served to keep him away from Britney Spears. So Ashleigh, should we be surprised if Sam Lutfi is investigated at some point or another for his behavior around Britney?

BANFIELD: Well, if he verbally assaulted her and, by the way, assault can be verbal. The charge of assault can be verbal. You don`t have to hit someone. But she`s going to have to complain. Britney`s going to have to say that. You can`t have a victimless crime.

The other thing is, you know, the problem here is it`s not illegal to cut a phone line. It`s not illegal to hide someone`s cell charger. The LAPD is pretty darn busy. So I don`t think they`re going to try to make a whole lot of hay of those other issues. Putting drugs in someone`s food - yes, that`s a problem.

HAMMER: We`re just going to have to wait and see where all of that goes. I want to get to some other big, breaking Britney news. That attorney who says that Britney`s civil rights are being violated because of the conservatorship which put her dad in charge of her affairs. This attorney says that he is going to fight on even though a federal court shot him down.

Listen to what he is saying, quote, "I will not stop until there is no one left standing. We will not fold our tents and run."

Let me show you this guy. Well, that`s the only representation we have of this guy because we don`t have a real picture of him. One is not even available. He`s been laying low as far as that`s concerned. But he was told in plain English by the federal court, "Hey, you are not Britney`s lawyer. She can`t have a lawyer."

Now, Darren, you called it right here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, the first night the story broke, that this lawyer would get shut down by the federal court. So what in the world could he hope to achieve by keeping this bonkers Britney business alive?

KAVINOKY: Yes. Maybe proving the notion that there`s no such thing as bad press? I mean, this - this was -

BANFIELD: Yes, there is!

KAVINOKY: Well, look. I mean what we got from the federal court was the judicial equivalent of saying, "Dude, you better knock this off." And going forward with this is crazy. And this idea that he is championing the rights of the underdog and the downtrodden wouldn`t exactly fly either. I mean this sounds more like distracted by shiny objects so it`s a dangerous, dangerous move.

BANFIELD: Hey, Darren. Hey, Darren. Don`t you love that he`s using first person, too? "I won`t stop, as opposed to, "My client and I - we won`t stop"? Oh, he`s weird.

KAVINOKY: Well, he doesn`t have a client, so that`s part of the problem here, yes.

HAMMER: Oh, he doesn`t even have a picture. Charles, can we see the image we have of this attorney who wants to go to federal court? I mean look at that guy. Would you hire this lawyer?

BANFIELD: Oh, boy. There is bad press. There is definitely such a thing as bad press.

HAMMER: Wow, wow. All right. Well, you know, I don`t think he`s going to go away. Again, it`s a wait-and-see as so much has been in the whole Britney Spears saga. Darren Kavinoky, Ashleigh Banfield, I thank you both for being here tonight. Stick around because I need you later on in the program.

There are puzzling, shocking new questions about Heath Ledger`s tragic death. Tonight, I can tell you the federal government is involved here. They`re investigating a couple of Heath`s doctors. Now, nobody should jump to any conclusions yet about what`s going on here. But coming up I`ll be looking into the stunning new twist. We`ll also have this -

GAVIN EDWARDS, "ROLLING STONE" MAGAZINE: She started, you know, like taking a lot of ecstasy. She was going out to the clubs all the time. And she got seriously addicted to crystal meth.

HAMMER: He is talking about pop star Fergie. She was one of the wildest women in Hollywood. But I`m really glad to say she`s totally calmed down. A lot. Tonight, I`ve got a revealing look at bad girls gone good. You just have to stick around to see these amazing transformations of how so many big stars really cleaned up their acts.

Well, the absolutely hysterical Jimmy Kimmel videos, you know, the ones everybody is talking about, you know, they`re far from clean. I mean, they`re sex tapes - kind of - starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Don`t get carried away here. Because so many people are watching them, other stars now scrambling to make their very own. What is going on? We`ve got that coming up.

And now we want to hear from you. It`s our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day - "Nicole Richie: Do you believe motherhood will change her?" You can vote at CNN.com/ShowbizTonight or E-mail us at showbiztonight@cnn.com.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. This is TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. Well, I got tell you, I am both shocked and surprised, but in a good way, tonight. That`s because a star is standing up and taking responsibility for his actions. Talking about Kyle Labeouf who stars in the new "Indiana Jones" movie.

He says he`s, quote, "embarrassed about getting arrested at a Chicago drugstore last November." He was apparently drunk and wouldn`t leave the store. Now, the charges were dropped but listen to what Shia tells "Empire" magazine, quote, "That was complete and utter insanity. I was an (EXPLETIVE DELETED), and it was a mistake."

Well, tonight, another young Hollywood star who has had problems with the law wants the world to know she has turned her life around. In the upcoming issue of "People" magazine, Nicole Richie says the birth of her daughter, Harlow, has given her a whole new outlook on life. She says, quote, "She gives life a whole new meaning and a whole new purpose." Well we hope so, Nicole. But for Hollywood stars, does baby really change everything?

Joining me tonight in New York, clinical psychologist Dr. Judy Kuriansky, and in Hollywood Ashlan Gorse, host of "E! News." Now, I appreciate you both being here.

Now, Nicole Richie was in rehab by the time she was 21 years old. We all saw her wild antics with Paris Hilton on "The Simple Life." She already spent the 82 minutes in jail for a DUI. Now, Nicole says she is a different person than she was a year ago and she points the finger squarely at her child. Dr. Judy, do you buy it?

DR. JUDY KURIANSKY, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: No, I don`t buy it, A.J., because she`s already gone back to her ways of wanting to be stick thin after she had a chance to have a full body when she was pregnant. And here`s really the rub. Nicole has this problem of an eating disorder and that`s all about control.

So for a little while she`s going to be able to control the eating of her infant, baby Harlow. That will give her a chance to control some part of her own life vicariously. But I am worried about her because when baby Harlow gets to be two years old as every mother knows, then the baby gets into controlling his or her own life. And Nicole`s going to be thrown into a tailspin because that`s her problem.

HAMMER: All right. Dr. Judy, we bring you on because you`re the clinical psychologist. I appreciate that side of it. But Ashlan, I want to go to you because you were right there in the thick of things in Hollywood. You, like I, have seen the reformed stars, the ones who have turned their lives around go bad over and over again. So what do you think? Is Nicole on the right path and does she have her daughter to thank?

ASHLAN GORSE, HOST, "E! NEWS": Well, somebody like Nicole Richie - she is a party girl at heart. And I think it`s kind of hard for them sometimes to revert back to their simple life ways and to be a good girl when you have a child that does depend on you. So she actually has something else in her that she has to care for and makes her responsible.

But I think once the kid is getting a little older, you know, Nicole`s going to kind of miss her friends, miss the party life style and she`s probably going to go back out there and come back to the good old Nicole that we all love.

HAMMER: No. Let`s hope not. Let`s hope she`s looking at another mommy we`ve got to talk about. Because, you know, when you look at Angelina Jolie, obviously, she`s undergone a remarkable transformation. She`s a good will ambassador for the United Nations. I couldn`t believe it. I saw this op-ed piece in the "Washington Post" today. She`s trying to save Iraqi refugees, which makes it really easy to forget that she was once this wild child in Hollywood. Once she started adopting children -

GORSE: Right.

HAMMER: From around the world, we saw this dramatic change in Angelina. Dr. Judy, what do you think? Can we firmly point at Angelina`s mommyhood as the thing that turned her around?

KURIANSKY: Mommyhood has made a big difference. The whole issue of mothering is very important, A.J., to Angelina because along at the same time as her expanding her brood, remember, she totally adored her mom and then her mom died of cancer. This was devastating to Angelina. And so she`s getting a chance to act out that mothering and nurturing that she had, that closeness with her mom now with her kids. And so that is keeping her not acting wild now. And besides that, if she is a ball of energy that woman. And so, that energy is being diverted into humanitarianism and mommyhood instead of wild sex.

ANDERSON: And we applaud her for all of that. Now, I don`t want to be gender specific here because it is not just moms. You can look at somebody like proud Hollywood papa Ben Affleck. This guy, once the ultimate Hollywood bachelor, partier, did time in rehab and now married to actress Jennifer Garner. They have a two-year-old daughter, Violet. We caught up with Ben when he was promoting his new movie, "Gone, Baby, Gone," and listen to what he told us about fatherhood.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BEN AFFLECK, FATHER: I wasn`t a father before I started making this movie. I had a family only recently. Obviously, when I did have a family, as I was about to make the movie, it changed my whole life. It changed my perspective on everything.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: I`ve only got 20 seconds here, Ashlan, but are the rules different for guys or can the change daddyhood brings about be just as dramatic?

GORSE: I think for somebody especially like Ben Affleck, fatherhood really did change him. It kind of made him pass himself into a role of father, and he loves his family. He`s definitely gotten himself away from Hollywood a little more now that he has a family which I think makes having a family easier.

And, you know, we just see him as a changed man. He is not the bachelor. He kind of took himself out of boys` club and now he`s happy at home with mom and Violet.

HAMMER: Go, Daddy Ben. We applaud him as well. Dr. Judy Kuriansky, Ashlan Gorse, thank you for being here tonight.

HAMMER: We`ve been asking you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day - "Nicole Richie: Do you believe motherhood will change her?" You can vote at CNN.com/ShowbizTonight. E-mail us at showbiztonight@cnn.com.

Well, I really think that Nicole has taken control of her life since she became pregnant. She`s really stepped her game up. She`s definitely not the only big star who has gone good. Madonna, Fergie, Mary J. Blige - the A-list ladies who were naughty but are now nice. But how did they turn it all around? You have got to stick around for my revealing investigation, bad girls gone good. That`s coming up at 45 past the hour.

Well, I don`t exactly think that the Olsen twins have good fashion sense. I mean, Mary-Kate and Ashley`s taste holds the whole trash bag look. Yes, not exactly couture in my book. But I guess somebody is thinking it`s good enough for a book. Yes. You`ve got to hear this, coming up next and I`ll straighten all that out.

HAMMER: Well, everybody is talking about those hysterical Jimmy Kimmel videos - their sex tapes starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Kind of. And because so many people are watching them, other stars now scrambling to make their own. I`ll tell you what`s going on with that, coming up.

Another big online hit, the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT podcast, which you can get totally free on our Web site at CNN.com/ShowbizTonight. Or get it on iTunes; just type "SHOWBIZ TONIGHT" into the search box.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Thank you. Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. Here are some more stories that are new right now. Well, it has been the talk of Hollywood. It`s been all over YouTube. I`m talking about these absolutely hysterical Jimmy Kimmel videos.

Tonight, I can tell you, there are now spin-offs of the spin-offs. All this started with the "I`m (EXPLETIVE DELETED) Matt Damon" video where Jimmy Kimmel`s girlfriend sings about, you know, doing it with Matt Damon. Then Jimmy struck back with the all-star billed, hilarious "I`m (EXPLETIVE DELETED) Ben Affleck" video with Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Robin Williams, Josh Groban, and a whole bunch more stars. Now there`s "I`m (EXPLETIVE DELETED) Seth Brogan," which is a spoof of Kimmel`s video. I wonder what`s next.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are working on a coffee table fashion book. It`s called "Influence." It`s going to be out this fall but while these two have their own fashion line, their fashion sense, well, it`s been kind of bag lady chic. So, I guess we`ll have to see.

Also, Barack Obama is back dancing on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show." He actually says he surged in the polls after he first danced on the show. Today, he came back to thank her and busted a move once again.

Well, tonight, some dramatic new steps in the nasty Charlie Sheen- Denise Richards custody battle. Now, you know, Denise is doing this reality TV show with their kids with permission of the court. Personally, I think it`s a terrible idea. Tonight, Charlie Sheen is still furious. He hasn`t given up the fight against it yet. It`s new right now. You won`t want to miss it, next.

Also this -

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

EDWARDS: She would just guzzle gin as soon as she came off stage. You know, she was smoking weed. She was doing coke.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Mary J. Blige so out of control. But now, well, as she sings, there`s no more drama. Tonight, I`ve got a revealing look at bad girls gone good. You got to see these amazing transformations.

I`ve been wanting to try this all night. Would you believe I`ve got your first look at Steve Carell`s new movie, "Get Smart"? It was terrible. This is going to be very funny. You want to stick around for your first look coming up.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, was Britney Spears drugged? It is hard to imagine someone possibly crushing up pills and putting them in Britney`s food. But you know, that`s exactly what her mom said happened and now the police may be getting on the case. Tonight, the outrageous claims that could turn into a full fledged police investigation.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

EDWARDS: She started, you know, like taking a lot of ecstasy. Going out to the clubs all the time and she got seriously addicted to crystal meth.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Yes. That was Fergie then, but now she has totally turned her life around. And you know, she`s not the only former bad girl who has done a complete 180. But what`s behind this extraordinary transformations? Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT investigates bad girls gone good.

(MUSIC)

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. This is TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.

And tonight, three big stories that are new right now. We have just got to talk about them. Was Britney drugged? Well, the LAPD says they are investigating whether or not pop singer was, in fact, drugged before her father stepped in and to take control of all of her affairs.

Also new tonight, authorities tell SHOWBIZ TONIGHT that they`re looking into two doctors and what they prescribed to actor Heath Ledger before he died.

Also new tonight, memo to Denise Richards. Pay attention now. Just because a judge says it`s OK for your two little girls to appear in your new reality series, don`t think that daddy Charlie Sheen is just going to sit back and watch. He is calling for a massive boycott of the show.

Joining us tonight from Hollywood, Darren Kavinoky, attorney for the Kavinoky Law Firm. Also tonight from the Tru TV studio in New York City, Ashleigh Banfield, host of "Hollywood Heat." And in New York City as well, Carolina Bermudez, senior editor for "In Touch Weekly." Gang, I appreciate you all being here.

Let`s get right to this first story. The LAPD now finally confirming they`re investigating whether or not they are going to investigate whether or not someone drugged Britney Spears. Now, the cops aren`t naming any names just yet, but in court documents, Britney`s mom, Lynne, is alleging that Brit`s manager/friend, whatever you want to call him, Sam Lutfi, did drug her. Darren, let me start off with you. You are the attorney on board tonight. Do you think anybody is going to wind up in the slammer over this?

KAVINOKY: Well, I don`t know if anybody`s going to wind up in the slammer but I`m not as all surprised that they`re going to be investigating it. There are serious charges. Right now, we just have hearsay based upon hearsay. So it will be really interesting to see how this one shakes out.

HAMMER: And because of what Mama Lynne said, a lot of people are looking at Sam Lutfi. Now, I should point out Sam Lutfi`s rep, Michael Sands, issued a very strong statement to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I want to read it for you, quote, "I hope everyone catches their breath until my deposition on March 6th, and my testimony on March 17th at Sam Lutfi`s temporary restraining order hearing. I think the public will be amazed at what they will hear and finally put to rest the slanderous, libelous accusations."

Now, again, nobody is accusing anybody in terms of the investigators of anything just yet. Sam`s rep sounding pretty confident there that Lynne`s claims are a crock. But Ashleigh, is there any way that if Sam or anyone gave her drugs, Britney, without her knowledge, that the law would see it as being in any way OK?

BANFIELD: No. That can be a felony. That can be very serious felony and if it results in death, it can be murder. That is not the case here. Usually, they look at the range of how the person was victimized. And let`s not forget, we don`t know whether Britney Spears is going to admit to any of this. She`ll probably be questioned, I would assume, if they`re saying they`re going to investigate. I think at this point, they said they were going to consider the issue.

But no. It is serious. You can`t drug people. You can`t drug people without them knowing. You`re not really supposed to give someone an aspirin in their food without them knowing. So, yes. I`ll tell you something, A.J., it is real hard to prove this stuff. I haven`t seen the police swoop down and collect evidence in her house. Not saying that hasn`t happened but it`s going to be a tricky one.

HAMMER: Yes. And what if anything Britney has to say obviously that would be a critical component in a case like this, if it does move forward.

All right. Let`s move on to another story that`s new right now. A law enforcement source close to the Heath Ledger case tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT federal drug investigators now looking into his death. What they`re doing is focusing on two of the doctors who prescribed the painkillers to the actor before he died.

Now, his autopsy did reveal he has these two painkillers in his system. There are no charges at this point. I want to be very clear about this. These are two separate doctors in California and in Texas. Ashleigh, what are they looking for?

BANFIELD: Well, it is really remains to be seen. Doctor shopping can be going off and looking for someone who will do something illegal for you because you`re a big celebrity and you get the VIP treatment. It can also be something that the victim is responsible for, going around and getting things from doctors without them knowing.

There`s no national databank. Doctors can`t be held liable if they don`t know that the patient has gone off to several other doctors before. Do you remember Winona Ryder and how many prescriptions she had? She had 37 drugs from 20 doctors over three years. How are we going to know that any of those doctors knew any of that happened? They may be just be asking the doctors at this point what they knew and when.

HAMMER: But of course, since the moment that we learned Heath died from this lethal mix of prescription drugs, we`ve all been asking, how could it have happened? How is it that nobody told him about the danger of mixing drugs or did anybody, in fact, tell him? Carolina, what do you think? Do you think we`re finally going to get some answers here and the family can get some closure that I`m sure they want?

CAROLINA BERMUDEZ, SENIOR EDITOR, "IN TOUCH WEEKLY": Unfortunately, I think the family has gotten a little bit of closure. Now, we`re kind of reopening the wound for them.

But I agree with Ashleigh, there is no cross reference or a national database where people can actually see who is taking what or who`s being prescribed which pills. And doctor shopping has been a practice in Hollywood for years. Now, the DEA may get their information but as far as Heath`s family, I think they would rather wish that they would leave it alone.

HAMMER: What do you think, Darren? Because he was laid to rest weeks ago and it does seem that if they`re opening this investigation, yes, it is old wounds as Carolina says. But I have to imagine this for a good reason.

KAVINOKY: Well, you`d hope so. Because this is opening an old wound, and as we`ve discussed, doctor shopping is as old of a practice in Hollywood as the casting couch. I mean, this is an unfortunate case of celebrity medical negligence, really. And it`s so, so tragic because there is no clearinghouse.

There`s no way for a doctor to know if other doctors are prescribing something to somebody and without that kind of information, it`s very easy in Hollywood and in other places, too, for people to get a hold of medication and mix them in ways and get consequences that they never intended.

HAMMER: All right. We`ve got to get to this other story that is new right now. Charlie Sheen taking his very personal to the masses on television. Now, even though a judge ruled that his ex-wife could have their daughters, Sam and Lola, in her new reality series, Charlie Sheen is speaking out. He`s saying half jokingly, he`s calling for a boycott of the show.

Carolina, I don`t know about you but a lot of people think it`s a really, really bad idea for Denise to put these kids on TV. I am among those people. Do you think Charlie is doing the right thing by calling for this boycott?

BERMUDEZ: I agree with you, A.J. I think that Denise is using these kids as a pawn for either content or fodder for people to talk about, because her life really isn`t that interesting. But Charlie Sheen - we`re really taking morality advice from this guy who is gambling addict. You know, he`s an admitted - he loves hookers. You know, so I kind of have a problem with coming out and speaking out about this. But I do agree with you. I don`t think the kids should have anything to do with this reality show.

HAMMER: But, Ashleigh, to the point of Charlie speaking out, isn`t he just going to make the situation worse and let more people know that this thing exists?

BANFIELD: Yes. You bet. We are all talking about it right now. You know, I`ve got a suggestion for Mr. Sheen. If you want to call for a boycott, call for a boycott of Ryan Seacrest Productions. Ask other celebrities out there, if their children may be, you know, at some point are in fear of being played all over the media. Maybe they want to take it out on the producer. Don`t ask the audience, though, because it just makes the audience want to look.

HAMMER: There`s a little good insight there from Ashleigh Banfield. What a novel idea. Hopefully Charlie is paying attention. Darren Kavinoky, Ashleigh Banfield, Carolina Bermudez, I really appreciate you all being here tonight.

So when you look at Mary J. Blige these days, kind of hard to believe she went through such dark days in the past. But let me tell you, but did she ever.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

EDWARDS: She would just guzzle gin as soon as she came off stage. You know, she was smoking weed. She was doing coke.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: All of those things. I just think it is extraordinary how Mary J. has turned her life around. And of course, she`s not the only one who`s really undergone a remarkable transformation. But what is their secret? Coming up, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT investigates bad girls gone good.

Well, here`s one way to clean up your act. At some point, you have to get smart. Check this out. Steve Carell is Matchwell Smart, Anne Hathaway is Agent 99. Talk about brilliant casting. I think this is going to be a huge hit. And coming up, we`ve got your very first look at "Get Smart." SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is coming straight back. Don`t go away.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PARIS HILTON, ACTRESS: Being in the spotlight, I have a platform where I can raise awareness with so many great causes, and just do so much with this instead of, you know, superficial things like going out. I want to help raise money for kids and for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Oh, Paris. I wanted to believe you - really, I did. I just have to wonder, what part of rolling around in a giant cocktail glass in your bra is helping charity? Of course, Paris promised to reform her bad girl ways when she got out of jail. Paris, we are still waiting.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. This is TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

You know, Paris could really learn a lesson or two from her frenemy Nicole Richie. In the latest issue of "People" magazine, Nicole talks very candidly about how motherhood has changed her life for the better saying, quote, "Now that I look back on it, I was a different person last year than I am now. And listen, sometimes, I`ll be here and I`ll think to myself, `I used to be fun! What if I`m not fun anymore?` I have those feelings. But you know what? I am who I am. I`m still fun, just not in that way."

It is good to see this bad girl turned good and, you know, she`s not the only one. Think about all of the bad girls out there in Hollywood who turned their lives around for good. I`m talking about Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Mary J. Blige, Fergie. So how bad did it get before they turned it around and how did they do it? Tonight, showbiz investigates bad girls gone good.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice over): They wrote the book on being naughty. Sexy, talented women who pushed the limits of being bad in their youth, but matured into some of the most respected women in Hollywood.

Mary J. Blige had one of the most extraordinary and public transformations from bad girl to good.

BLIGE: It`s celebration of the growth that I have made, the growth of all of my fans and all of us, you know, have made together.

HAMMER: She is the Grammy-award winning, reigning queen of hip hop and soul. But this diva battled a hard-core addiction to drugs and alcohol.

EDWARDS: She`s talked with me once about it. She would just guzzle gin as soon as she came off stage. You know, she was smoking weed. She was doing coke.

HAMMER: Her transformation came when she met her current husband, Kendu Isaacs. She tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, he saved her life.

BLIGE: My husband definitely came in my life and helped me out. You know, saved me.

HAMMER: Even better, Blige turned her heartache into another reason she`s so beloved.

EDWARDS: She, you know, sort of like actually worked all this into her art. The sort of the turning point song for her was really a ballad called, "No More Drama."

Mary J.`s spiritual journey in her life is reflected in her music and I think the audience responds to that as much as they respond to her voice.

HAMMER: Another of SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s favorite bad girls gone good, Fergie who battled a serious crystal meth addiction before she made it big in Black Eyed Peas.

EDWARDS: Well, the funny thing with Fergie, is it`s a little different because most of her bad girl stuff was before she was really in the public eye. I mean, she was a child star - I mean, star overstating it.

HAMMER: Yes, that might be overstating it. Fergie was a regular on that old `80s kids show, "Kids Incorporated." It was later when she was in the first real girl group, Wild Orchids, that things got interesting.

EDWARDS: She started, you know, like taking a lot of ecstasy. She was going out to the clubs all the time. And she got seriously addicted to crystal meth.

HAMMER: She says kicking the habit was the hardest boyfriend she ever had to break up with.

EDWARDS: She`s been through some hard times. But you know, she`s perhaps had like a wild, raunchy past. But you know, she`s like a little more in control now.

HAMMER: But if we`re talking about a woman totally in control of her career and image, it`s got to be the material girl herself.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Madonna!

HAMMER: From material girl to mama extraordinaire, Madonna wrote the book on transformation.

EDWARDS: Part of what makes her really smart is that she changes with the times.

JULIA ALBRIGHT, SOCIOLOGIST, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA: She sort of went from street waif to Hollywood sophisticate to now wife, mother and an author of children`s books.

HAMMER: In the `80s and `90s, Madonna shocked the world with her in-your- face sexuality.

EDWARDS: She`s really sort of was one of the prime movers of the way our society has become pornier.

HAMMER: That`s right. The man said, "pornier." Makes sense, too. Cone- shaped bras, lewd and provocative dancing, spreads in "Playboy" and "Penthouse" and, oh, who can forget the sex book? These days, Madonna`s still in the book biz.

MADONNA, POP STAR: Do you want me to read the story to you?

CHILDREN: Yes.

HAMMER: This time, children`s books.

EDWARDS: She actually sort of settled down. She`s got three kids now. You know, sure, none of them were born in wedlock but that`s fine.

HAMMER: Give the lady a break. She`s got enough on her plate, international fame, spiritual quests and grappling with hard mommy questions like this one from CNN`s Richard Quest.

RICHARD QUEST, CNN CORRESPONDENT: If your daughter decided to prance around the stage in her underwear, singing and hollering, would you approve?

MADONNA: Uhm - Probably not.

HAMMER: Oh yes. The double standard of parenthood already kicking in. Oh, but she is not the only kick-ass naughty girl of Hollywood to go nice. May we present Ms. Angelina Jolie. This tattooed diva first caught our attention after her Oscar win for her psycho role in "Girl Interrupted."

ANGELINA JOLIE, ACTRESS: Good to be home!

HAMMER: She came on to the scene beautiful, talented and a true wild child.

JOLIE: I`ve had some good nights in Los Angeles, let`s put it this way.

HAMMER: She raised more than a few eyebrows when she married actor Billy Bob Thornton. Public displays of affection was sort of their thing. Also, their thing? Wearing vials of each other`s blood around their necks.

JOLIE: It`s not a vial.

LARRY KING, HOST OF "LARRY KING LIVE": OK. Whatever you want to call it.

HAMMER: She told Larry King all about it.

KING: And what does he wear?

JOLIE: Mine.

KING: Your blood?

JOLIE: Yes.

KING: That`s nice.

HAMMER: OK. Sure. That`s nice. Jolie went on to raise even more eyebrows when she defied every bad girl stereotype out there and became a global humanitarian and spokesperson for the United Nations.

JOLIE: We shape our future by the way we raise our children.

HAMMER: You can`t accuse the woman of not practicing what she preaches. She`s adopted three orphans from around the world and is proud mama of a daughter, Shiloh, whom she had with Brad Pitt.

ALBRIGHT: She`s taken on the roles of being a mother. She is now seen as a noble humanitarian. So, been quite a change.

HAMMER: But Jolie tells us she doesn`t think she`s changed at all.

JOLIE: I`m still a punk kid. I`ve got my tattoos covered.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: Well, it is pretty clear Angelina Jolie isn`t a punk kid anymore. She takes the role as U.N. goodwill ambassador very seriously. In fact, on Thursday, she wrote an op-ed piece in the "Washington Post" urging humanitarian assistance for displaced families of Iraq, all the while reportedly pregnant with her fifth child. Not bad for a former bad girl.

All right. I want you to check this out. I think this is a stroke of casting genius. The hilarious Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart. I`ve got to tell you, I think this movie is going to be huge. I can`t wait to see it. Stay right where you are. We have your very first look at "Get Smart." Coming up next on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

But first, we have your look at what`s new at movies, brought to you by Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. In theaters this Friday, "The Other Boleyn Girl." Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson star as Anne and Mary Boleyn, competing for the affection of King Henry VIII.

Also Friday, Will Ferrell and Woody Harrelson in the sports comedy "Semi-Pro." If you like that movie, "Old School," you`ll probably like this. It was written by the same guy.

Also, Christina Ricci stars in "Penelope" as a young woman who happens to have a big nose. Reese Witherspoon also stars. "Penelope" in theaters Friday. And that`s what`s new at the movies, brought to you by Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is coming straight back.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Tonight, in the showbiz first look, "Get Smart" based on the classic TV series. Watch this.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

VOICE OVER: There has always been a delicate balance between chaos and control.

TERRENCE STAMP, ACTOR: My name is Siegfried and I represent chaos. Over the past few months, we have assembled a stockpile of nuclear weapons which we distributed to unstable dictators.

VOICE OVER: Now, with that balance threatened, it is time to turn to one man.

STAMP: How do I know you`re not control?

STEVE CARELL, ACTOR: If I were control, you`d already be dead.

STAMP: If you were control, you`d already be dead.

CARELL: Neither of us is dead so I`m obviously not from control.

KEN DAVITIAN, ACTOR: That actually makes sense.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Around the world, our people are under attack.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: They have learned the identities of all of our field agents. They hit us and they hit us hard. Fortunately, we have a new agent.

CARELL: Who is that, sir?

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: It`s you, Max.

CARELL: I request the cone of silence. Oh, I`m so happy. This is the best day of my life.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: You didn`t push the button hard enough.

CARELL: Right.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: 99, I feel really good about us as partners.

ANNE HATHAWAY, ACTRESS: Wow. Impressive. Wow.

CARELL: I set that up.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Is this a stapler?

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Yes.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: You don`t follow the rules, and what are we?

DWAYNE JOHNSON, ACTOR: We`re not people who jam staples into other people`s heads.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: That`s CIA crap.

HATHAWAY: Did you say anything while I was dancing?

CARELL: Just once but I don`t think you expected him to lift you so high. Missed it by that much.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: Tuesday`s not going to work. Cannot do Tuesday.

UNIDENTIFIED CHILD ACTOR: Mom, mom, mom!

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: Shawn, Shawn, Shawn! See how annoying that is!

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: See, I wasn`t lying. It looks hilarious. All right. That is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Thanks a lot for watching. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. The latest from "CNN HEADLINE NEWS" is coming up next.
