Aired August 6, 2007 - 23:00:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

BROOKE ANDERSON, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: Ashley Judd`s husband involved in a terrifying car wreck. And Eddie Murphy finally admits he is the father of Scary Spice`s baby. But the fight over the baby, well, it`s getting scarier. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.
On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, a Lindsay Lohan rehab shocker. Tonight startling questions about Lindsay`s whereabouts. Has she checked into rehab for the third time in a year? Will it really work this time? Or has she left Hollywood, planning a reunion with her estranged dad? Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT investigates the explosive story, is Lindsay Lohan really back in rehab?

Good lessons for Hollywood`s bad girls. Tonight what the Lindsay`s, the Britney`s the Paris` can learn from other young stars who haven`t gone to jail or been in rehab.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HOWARD BRAGMAN, 15 MINUTES PR: It means your private life is conducted behind curtains, and not out at bars.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: The stunning secrets to staying out of trouble revealed. It`s a SHOWBIZ special report, lessons for Hollywood`s bad girls from the good ones.

Hi there everyone. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. AJ is off tonight.

Well, if you thought Eddie Murphy`s stunning admission that he fathered Scary Spice`s baby was the end of that story, wait just a minute because it is getting scarier, and I will be speaking to Melanie Brown`s fired up attorney in just a minute.

But, first tonight, I can`t believe I`m now saying this for the third time; Lindsay Lohan is reportedly in rehab. Yes, that would be the third time. And as she faces jail time for her double DUI arrest, Lohan is reportedly not sitting in some posh Malibu center. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has got to ask, will the 21-year-old finally get the help she desperately needs?

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON (voice-over): Could three times be the charm? Lindsay Lohan is reportedly back in rehab. CBS Radio says the 21-year-old entered the Chic Circ Lodge (ph) drug and alcohol rehab in Sun Dance, Utah over the weekend.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She`s undergoing very serious medical treatment.

ANDERSON: This is the third treatment facility Lohan has been to this year.

DAVID CAPLAN, 24SIZZLER.COM: This reported third stint in rehab at Circ Lodge for Lindsay may be the key to her finally knocking all of her addictions.

ANDERSON: The key difference with this place, it`s not anywhere near Los Angeles, and Lohan`s vices, her friends, and the night clubs.

CAPLAN: For her being in Utah, it`s so far away from her infrastructures, essentially, of enablers that a lot of people are saying this time it will work.

ANDERSON: Lohan is reportedly expected to stay at the Utah facility for a minimum of 30 days, but that could cause a problem. The starlet is due in court in Santa Monica on August 24th, where she faces multiple charges from her LA arrest last month after she engaged in a high speed car chase, then allegedly failed a field sobriety test and allegedly brought cocaine into the police station, where she was getting booked for suspicion of DUI.

She also faces charges stemming from her Memorial Day meltdown, where she got her first DUI charge. So the question tonight, will this rehab work? Lohan relapsed almost immediately following her other two stints at Wonderland and Promises.

KEN SEELEY, A&E`S "INTERVENTION": The only reason why the other two rehabs haven`t worked -- they`re great facilities -- but the reason why treatment isn`t going to work for Lindsay is because she hasn`t hit a bottom. She`s not doing it to get sober. She`s doing it just so she looks good for PR and for the courts.

ANDERSON: These are some of the newest pictures out there of Lohan, taken for "Elle Magazine," Lindsay appears sober. She had just completed the month-long program at Wonderland, but just days after the shoot, her Memorial Day mishap.

HOLLY MILLEA, "ELLE MAGAZINE": I don`t think that anybody plans what Lindsay went through. You know, least of all Lindsay. I think she`s incredibly young and has made some seriously bad choices.

ANDERSON: Holly Millea did the interview with Lindsay for Elle. Just 36 hours later Lohan was in a car accident, passed out in a friend`s car, and was on her way to Promises for drug and alcohol treatment.

MILLEA: You know, when we saw that picture of her passed out in the car with her friend Samantha Ronson sitting next to her behind the wheel, you know, with friends like that, who needs enemies, frankly.

ANDERSON: During the interview, Lohan claimed to be clean and sober. And when asked about her time at Wonderland she said, quote, I`m glad I went, because I needed to get away from everyone and I didn`t know how to do that. And I learned a lot there.

She apparently didn`t learn enough. Just days later an out of control Lohan was arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing her Mercedes into a curb.

MILLEA: Her biggest mistake is getting behind the wheel of a car and being around people who are using her and not looking out for her best interests. You know, by the way, that includes her parents, you know, first and foremost.

ANDERSON: Lohan isn`t the only celebrity to leave L.A. for the privacy of Utah`s Circ Lodge. David Hassellhof and Mary Kate Olson each completed treatments there. Hasselhoff for drinking. Mary Kate for her eating disorder. Just like Promises and Wonderland, the Circ lodge, which was recently named one of the top substance abuse centers by "Town & Country Magazine," seems to cater to the rich and famous.

SEELEY: It`s one of the best in the country. I mean, it`s, again, like Wonderland and Promises. And I have sent many clients up there, and they do extremely well.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The Circ Lodge is a very exclusive, very remote facility that a lot of people have called sort of a camp.

CAPLAN: Circ Lodge costs upward of 30,000 dollar a month, and you really see where the money goes to. The rooms are huge, and there`s private jacuzzis, private fireplaces, incredible views of the Utah wilderness.

ANDERSON: But SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is asking; will the fine amenities and fancy landscape hide Lohan`s bitter reality?

SEELEY: I think Lindsay`s reality right now is not about really getting sober and getting recovery. I believe it`s about figuring out another way out of getting in the trouble that she already has lined up for her. I really do pray for her because she could help millions.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: OK, from a bad girl to somebody a lot of people have been calling a bad guy, Eddie Murphy. Tonight Eddie is finally admitting he is the daddy of Scary Spice`s baby. Spice Girl Melanie Brown had filed a paternity suit against Murphy demanding he admit that her four-month-old daughter Angel is his. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you that even though Murphy is stepping forward, it`s not over. Far from it. Oh, the drama.

Joining me tonight from Los Angeles is Gloria Allred, who is representing Scary Spice. Hey, Gloria, good to see you.

GLORIA ALLRED, ATTORNEY: You too, Brooke.

ANDERSON: All right, Eddie`s reps released a statement to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, and I want to read to you what it says. Here we go, "Eddie Murphy always has and will continue to honor his responsibilities as a father. Mr. Murphy and Ms. Brown dated very briefly and never made any plans of any sort. He acknowledges paternity of the child, Angel, and has paid child support to Ms. Brown, as well as covering the expenses of her pregnancy.

OK, Gloria, first things first. Sounds to me he has fessed up here, said he is covering the expenses. So what`s wrong? What is the problem that still remains?

ALLRED: Big problems. Prior to our filing the petition with the court on Wednesday seeking a judgment of paternity and child support, even though the baby was almost four months old, he never filed -- he never paid one cent of child support. After we filed the petition, after we held the news conference, then some support was forthcoming, but he still has not taken care of Melanie`s primary concern, and that is that he visit the baby, that he hold the baby, that he see the baby, that he love the baby, that he bond with his little daughter. And he hasn`t done that, Brooke.

And, as a matter of fact, even in that press release, which you just read, and to us he has not indicated that he is planning to see his daughter.

ANDERSON: Yes, not from this statement. It is understandable that she would want a personal involvement from the father of her child. And, you know, Melanie claims this was all a planned pregnancy, which Eddie refutes. Let`s hear exactly how Mel B. describes it.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MELANIE BROWN, SCARY SPICE: The relationship was in full swing right at the beginning of my pregnancy, yes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: What did he say to you when you told him you were pregnant? Was he excited?

BROWN: Yes, it was planned. We were both really excited.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Very excited. OK, Gloria, looks like there was a complete disconnect. so what does Melanie say about Eddie`s denials?

ALLRED: Well, of course, her main concern is her little Angel Iris Murphy-Brown, and what`s in the child`s best interest. She thinks it`s in the child`s best interest for both parents to be involved in the life of this child, and to take an active role in that little life. And so, of course, it`s disappointing that Eddie Murphy still appears to have turned his back on his baby, physically and emotionally.

He is not there for that baby. Wouldn`t most people want to just hold their little baby and hug them and look at them and talk with them?

ANDERSON: One would think. I want to ask you, in addition to the disappointment you say that she`s feeling, does she also see this as a fight not just for Angel, but for her own reputation, because she is trying to restart her career. She`s going on tour with the Spice Girls. Is she worried about her image?

ALLRED: Well, I think her reputation is important to her, as it is to everyone who works hard over the years to build their reputation. But, again, it`s not about Melanie. It is about her little baby. And she also knows there`s single mothers all over this world, millions of them, that are very concerned because the single fathers, some of them, are not taking the responsibility that they should in the lives of their babies.

So, you know, for Eddie Murphy -- we`re not going away because it`s really important to Melanie that he really truly honor his responsibilities to this baby and be a true father. Not a father by press release, but a father, in fact. He needs to see his baby.

ANDERSON: Let me ask you this; Melanie had a highly publicized meeting with Eddie`s ex-wife and mother of his five kids, Nicole Murphy, just hours before he did admit fatherhood. And it happened in the famous Ivy Restaurant in Beverly Hills. Can you tell us a reason for the meeting? What happened?

ALLRED: Well, I mean, they had lunch together. But all I can say is it doesn`t surprise me because, after all, Nicole`s children with Eddie are little Angel`s sisters and brothers. So, sure, why don`t they get to know each other, even if Eddie decides that he is turning his back on his baby?

ANDERSON: Well, hopefully they can all become friends. And Eddie, if you are watching. You heard it here. Gloria said she and Melanie are not going away. Gloria Allred, thank you for joining us.

ALLRED: Thank you, Brooke.

ANDERSON: We want to hear from you. It`s our question of the day. Eddie Murphy baby daddy drama, has your opinion of him changed? Vote at CNN.com/SHOWBIZTONIGHT. Send us an email at SHOWBIZTONIGHT@CNN.com.

You remember that Paris Hilton-Larry King interview, how she said she was going to change, do charity work. Well, hasn`t really happened, but Paris still insists she`s a new woman. I don`t know if I buy it. So tonight we are investigating just what she`s done since getting out of jail. Plus, Paris is speaking out about the startling reasons why she is selling her home. That`s next. I`ve also got some must hear advice for Paris.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP

HILLARY DUFF, ACTRESS: We take things really seriously and we work hard, and we got a lot in return.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: That`s Hillary Duff, one of the good girls of Hollywood. Let me tell you, the Lindsay`s, the Paris`s, the Britney`s can really learn a thing or two from them. I`ve got a SHOWBIZ special report, lessons for the bad girls from the good girls. That is straight ahead.

And take a look at this, absolutely horrific video. Ashley Judd`s husband getting into a terrible car crash. What happened and just how he is doing. Stay with us.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Is this the best time in your life right now?

PARIS HILTON, "THE SIMPLE LIFE": yes, I`m happier than I`ve ever been. Just -- I`m really excited for everything that`s going on, all my projects.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: That was Paris Hilton talking to "USA Today" reporter Will Keck about her new life after jail. Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. You are watching TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. Tonight Paris`s promises. Well, right after she got out of jail, Paris promised she was giving up her old partying ways and focusing on good causes, like breast cancer awareness, also children`s health care.

Well, let me see. It`s been more than, what, a month since she served her time, and I haven`t really heard about anything. Joining me tonight from Hollywood is "USA Today" reporter Will Keck, who sat down with Paris. Hey, buddy.

WILL KECK, "USA TODAY": Hey Brooke. How are you doing out there?

ANDERSON: Doing great. Thanks. First things first; you asked Paris if she had given any advice to her "Simple Life" co-star Nicole Richie, who we have been talking about for a while, who is heading to possibly the same jail where Paris served time. And let`s listen to what she told you.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HILTON: Nicole is my sister, so I always support her and wish her the best. And I totally feel for her, because I had to go through it, and it`s very difficult. So I`ll be praying for her.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: She kind of seemed to dodge the question there. Will, did you get the sense that Paris has spoken to Nicole about jail?

KECK: Well, of course. They`re definitely best friends again. Nicole`s picture was all over Paris` beach house. But I think that Nicole was pretty careful what she said when Paris was going to jail, and Paris is returning the favor.

ANDERSON: All right. So loyalty maybe?

KECK: Yes, I think so. I think so. I think that Nicole wants to get this over with as fast as she can. Paris, I think, kind of fed into it, made it part of her image as a survivor, the next chapter in her series of scandals. I think Nicole has a different game plan. She doesn`t want to feed off this as Paris did.

ANDERSON: You asked her how she felt, speaking about her "Simple Life" co-star about that show being canceled, and her response kind of surprised me. Listen to this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HILTON: I`m really happy.

KECK: You are?

HILTON: I don`t know. I love it, but it`s just not who I am, you know. It`s kind of a character I play. I have been forced to keep on playing it for the past five seasons. And I have been trying to get out of the deal, because we had like a really tight contract, so I`m happy that it`s over.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: What? That`s one of the main things that put her on the map. What do you think? Is she trying to save face? Is that an image thing?

KECK: I think yes and no. She clearly does have lots and lots of projects being offered to her that she couldn`t accept because she was committed to this show. However, two years ago she told me the exact same thing when Fox canceled "The Simple Life" and E! picked it up, and she had to come back to work.

ANDERSON: Maybe she is being truthful. Well, one thing -- it sounds to me that she`s back to that squeaky baby talk voice that she said she was going to change. And you even mentioned that at the beginning of your article. And it drives me crazy how she reverts to that sometimes.

KECK: Yes, I remember watching her with Larry -- Larry King here. And she sounded more grown up, not so much of a baby. I noticed that right away when she came downstairs to meet with me in her beach house, that she sounded kind of with her little baby voice again. And I think that life is just trying to push her back into that old Paris Hilton image, because it`s worked so well for her. And if you change too much, then she could lose her deals, the perfume.

The line of doggy clothes may not fit in well with the more mature, grown-up Paris Hilton.

ANDERSON: What a sad statement about society that is.

KECK: Yes.

ANDERSON: I do want to get to the charity. Paris told you that she`s in talks with Los Angeles Children`s Hospital to be its ambassador.

KECK: Right.

ANDERSON: Does she seem sincere about her desire to do something more meaningful than pose on a red carpet somewhere?

KECK: I can tell you that I think Paris has really seen how Angelina Jolie has benefited from the charity work she`s doing. Paris even told me, she said Angelina Jolie is a beautiful woman, but her charity work makes her even more beautiful. The public is responding to her going out there and doing good work. I think for Paris to continue surviving, for people not to be completely turned off by her, she has to find a way to get back. And whether it be giving back to charities -- I know a couple of diseases took the lives of her grandmothers -- or whether it`s the environment, she`s going to find her way, but in her own special way.

ANDERSON: Speaking of the environment, she said global warming is, quote, not hot. She also said, quote, I`m ordering a hybrid car. I`m trying to get a Hummer one designed. I like hybrids, but a lot of them aren`t cute. I`m thinking silver or maybe I`ll get a green one. Will, is she kidding?

KECK: You know, I think if anyone can get a hybrid Hummer designed, it`s Paris Hilton.

ANDERSON: We will leave it there. "USA Today" reporter Will Keck, thank you so much.

KECK: Thanks, Brooke. Bye-bye.

ANDERSON: Well, I think Paris`s "Simple Life" buddy Nicole Richie has to do some serious changing of her own. Now she`s speaking out for the first time about her upcoming jail time, her DUI arrest, and we`ve also got your first look at her pregnant, and how she insists that baby will change her bad girl ways. I hope so. We`ve also got this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BRAGMAN: It means your private life is conducted behind curtains and not out at bars and you are not trying to get the reputation of miss party thing 2007.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Tonight I`ve got some got to hear advice for the bad girls of Hollywood, the Nicole`s, the Lindsay`s, Britney, Paris from the good girls. It`s a controversial fired up SHOWBIZ special report, lessons for the bad girls from the good ones. That`s in just a bit.

I almost cannot watch this video. It`s a horrific car crash involving Ashley Judd`s husband. So terrible. I`ve got the details of what happened and just how he is doing tonight. That`s coming up next.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for a Monday night will return in just a moment. Keep it right here.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York.

All right, a very, very scary weekend for Ashley Judd`s husband. Now Dario Franchitti (ph) races cars. He actually won the Indianapolis 500 back in May, but you have to take a look at what happened at the Firestone Indy 400 in Michigan on Sunday. You see his car and another car collide, and that`s Franchitti up in the air, crashing down and getting slammed by other racers.

A total of seven cars were involved in the crash. But, amazingly, Franchitti walked away unhurt. Now, even though these cars have all kinds of safety devices, I still can`t believe he walked away from this. I mean, he was going more than 200 miles per hour. Franchitti called Judd to let her know he was OK. Ashley and Dario have been married six years. They`re pretty low key about it and even live outside of Nashville, Tennessee, to try to avoid the Hollywood craziness.

All right, so the "Wonder Years," one of my favorite shows. I remember Hollywood good girl Danica Mckellar, Winnie Cooper. Well tonight, she`s right with me speaking out about Hollywood`s bad girls and how she`s using math to send out positive messages to young fans.

Also this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DUFF: You know what I think is we take things really seriously and we work hard and we get a lot in return.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: That`s Hillary Duff, another one of those Hollywood good girls that we love. Let me tell you, the Lindsay`s, the Paris`, the Britney`s can really learn a thing or two from them. Lessons for the bad girls from the good girls. And you don`t want to miss that. That is straight ahead.

But there is hope for these super naughty starlets. Yes, I think they can change. They can put aside the pantiless partying, the jail, the rehab and go legit. Straight ahead, I`m revealing the secrets for bad girls to go good. It is a SHOWBIZ special report, Hollywood`s good girls, and that is straight ahead. Stay with us. Don`t go anywhere.

(NEWS BREAK)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: So what does it mean to be a good girl in Hollywood?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HOWARD BRAGMAN, FIFTEEN MINUTES PUBLIC RELATIONS: It means your private life is conducted behind curtains, and not out at bars. And you`re not trying to get the reputation of Miss Party Thing 2007.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: You tell them, Howard. Good advice for Britney, Lindsay, Paris, and Nicole. Believe it or not, there are plenty of young, rich, successful young women who have never set foot in jail or rehab. How do they do it? Well, we have some of them right here with us tonight, and a step by step guidebook for how the bad girls can clean up their acts. Tonight a SHOWBIZ TONIGHT special report, "Hollywood`s Good Girls and What They Can Teach the Bad Girls."

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. A.J. is off.

Miss Party Thing 2007 is definitely a heated race. This dubious distinction for young Hollywood, Lindsay Lohan reportedly taking her third stab at rehab. Nicole Richie about to serve four days in jail because of a DUI arrest. Paris was already in the slammer, and Britney Spears has yet to convince her fans she`s back on track.

But, you know, all is not lost. In fact, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has some lessons for the bad girls of Hollywood from Hollywood`s good girls. In just a minute we are going to talk to one of those good girls, but, first, here`s SHOWBIZ TONIGHT special report, "How Good Girls Get It Right".

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (SINGING): Miss Independent, Miss Self- Sufficient, Miss Keep-Your-Distance --

ANDERSON (voice over): If the good girls of Hollywood were looking for a theme song, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT could tell you it could well be Kelly Clarkson`s "Miss Independent", because for good girls like Kelly, it`s not just a song. It`s how she lives her life.

JESSICA WEINER, AUTHOR, SELF-ESTEEM EXPERT: Kelly Clarkson has proven to be a strong and independent good girl for women to look up to in this industry. I think she was the first big winner of "American Idol", and she could have gone in a lot of different directions, but she`s really stayed true to herself, and you can see it.

ANDERSON: Unlike Kelly, so many young stars turn into the bad girls of Hollywood -- Paris, Lindsay, Britney. So SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is here to reveal what they need to do to get on the good girl path. And the number one thing good girls do right? They get serious about the work.

HOWARD BRAGMAN, FIFTEEN MINUTES PUBLIC RELATIONS: They work really hard, is the first thing. They take their craft seriously.

HILARY DUFF, ACTRESS: I`m really not good in front of crowds. I won`t even let my mom hear me sing in the shower.

ANDERSON: Take Hilary Duff, for example, TV`s Lizzie McGuire grew up on television making kids laugh. The one-time child star, along with her older sister Haley, both know that being serious about their work and not the trappings of fame is the ultimate reward.

DUFF: You know what I think, is we take things really seriously, you know, and we work hard, and we get a lot in return.

ANDERSON: And working hard doesn`t only mean learning lines for a movie role. You hear that, Lindsay? Or showing up on every red carpet you can get to. Hear that, Paris? A career means making good moves.

BRAGMAN: It means making good decisions. It means your private life is conducted behind curtains, and not out at bars. And you`re not trying to get the reputation of Miss Party Thing 2007.

ANDERSON: Yes, Miss Party Thing 2007. If there were ever an award for this dubious distinction, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT bets there would be a three- way tie between Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan. Britney, in and out of rehab; same with Lindsay, and then there`s Paris.

(On camera): I have to tell you, this day has been surreal. Just one day after Paris Hilton was released from jail, that`s just three days into her sentence, she was dragged back into court nearly kicking and screaming.

(Voice over): The spectacle of Paris Hilton came after she made a career out of being famous for virtually nothing. Amazingly, a rather successful career that she may have never thought would be endangered by doing something stupid.

BRAGMAN: A lot of people take this for granted that they think they`re so talented it`s just going to happen. I know a lot of talented people who have really miserable careers. You have to be grateful. You have to work on your career. You have to keep your eye on the prize.

ANDERSON: And keeping both eyes on the prize is just what Hollywood good girl Jennifer Love Hewitt has been doing for years.

BRAGMAN: I have known Jennifer almost two decades. And she is one of the hardest working young actors I have ever met. She`s got a great TV show. She has got commercial endorsements. She goes out with nice people. She`s got a family who loves her. I mean, these are the rewards you get for playing it right.

HAYDEN PANETIERRE, ACTRESS: I have busted like every bone in my body, stabbed myself in the chest. I stuck a two foot steel rod in my neck. And I don`t have a scratch on me!

ANDERSON: The young star of TV`s "Heroes", Hayden Panetierre, is also a Hollywood good girl who knows that a big part of who you are is ultimately who you surround yourself with.

PANETIERRE: People you are around impact who you are, and when there are people that you`re around who are on the same track, and keep you on that track, then you`re good to go.

ANDERSON: And when you stray from that track, as Paris, Britney, and Lindsay have done too many times, you set yourself up for a crash. So, ladies, take a good look at the Hollywood good girls. You might learn a thing or two.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has even more proof that being a good girl in Hollywood has its benefits. With us tonight a TV star who has been able to make cute and smart a whole lot cooler than the tired dumb act. You remember Danica McKellar as Winnie on the long-running TV series, "The Wonder years," which I love. Now she`s hoping to influence young girls everywhere with her new book -- I love this title -- "Math Doesn`t Suck." She joins me now from Hollywood.

Danica, good to see you.

DANICA MCKELLAR, ACTRESS, AUTHOR: Hi. Thank you for having me.

ANDERSON: Of course. Now, in the piece, you know, you saw, you heard the piece. So many good girls in Hollywood to learn from and look up to, and, yet, Hollywood`s bad girls just can`t seem to get it right. Why not?

MCKELLAR: Well, I don`t know. I really feel for these girls that are just being plastered all over the news. You know, there are just like in any part of life there are people who deal with it well, and people who don`t have the same benefits. I feel very fortunate to have had wonderful parenting. Claire Danes talks about that as well. Natalie Portman is another example of someone who is famous very young and is doing fine and is known for being smart.

ANDERSON: Ann Hathaway, too, another great example.

MCKELLAR: Yes.

ANDERSON: Growing up at such a young age in the limelight. You were very young while you were very famous. You obviously didn`t fall prey to the temptations in Hollywood. How did you do that? Because, you know, it is very, very easy to make really poor decisions.

MCKELLAR: Well, I think the key lies in being told by your parents, or whoever is surrounding, you that the thing that makes you special is not all the attention you are getting for being on television or being in movies. The thing that makes you special is who you are. It`s all the old cliches we`ve always heard, but it`s true.

It`s developing your intelligence. It`s being a good person. All that stuff really is more important.

ANDERSON: To that end, at 12, 13 years old you won your first Emmy for "The Wonder Years". But you weren`t there on the red carpet. You weren`t even there at all at the awards show.

MCKELLAR: That`s right. Yes. Yeah. OK, so when I was -- I think I was 13 years old, we were nominated for Best Comedy Series, and we had a trip planned with my father that had been planned for months. My sister and I were going river rafting with him in Oregon. And there was really no question about whether we were going to give it up or not.

He was busy with business, and he couldn`t reschedule. And so we went. And I have no regrets. We watched the ceremony from our little motel room, cheered up and down, yeah. Yes, we won. Then we got on the river the next day and had the trip of our lives.

ANDERSON: Yeah. May have been more comfortable to watch it from the hotel room, and it really, really sounds like you and your family have the priorities straight. I really want to know why are girls in America influenced by the Hollywood train wrecks? They want to emulate them almost and using a high school comparison, like your book does, it seems sometimes that they think it`s cool, it`s cute to be dumb and stupid.

MCKELLAR: Well, I think, unfortunately, they`re getting a lot of that message from the media because, like I said, there are good examples and bad examples. And when we focus so much on the negative actions that girls in the spotlight are doing, then, of course, they`re going to end up associating fun and glamorous with being irresponsible and reckless.

ANDERSON: In your book "Math Doesn`t Suck" you work in what you call your "pretty in pink approach" in there, with basically any math problem that you can think of. In one of your titles, entitled, "Choosing the Perfect Necklace", you basically compared doing complex fractions to unraveling the kinks in your favorite necklace. But, Danica, has it come down to this for girls in society today that you do have to dumb it down a little bit?

MCKELLAR: Well, I don`t consider this dumbing down math, in the least. I think to even believe that, you would have to think there`s something inherently dumb about being girly. And to that end, I would also say, I don`t think there`s anything inherently dumb about being athletic if you are a boy. I mean, people call them jocks sometimes, but see all the examples in math books that include baseball, for averages, we don`t sit there and say, oh, why has it come to this?

ANDERSON: So you are tying to make it fun. You`re trying to make people want to do better in math and, therefore, in life, right?

Absolutely. Absolutely. I`m saying, let`s embrace all this girly fun stuff. Why not? There`s no contradiction with doing that and also being smart and developing your intelligence. In fact, one of the things I say in my book is that in order to become the fabulous young woman that you want to be, developing your intelligence is absolutely an essential tool.

ANDERSON: Absolutely. Danica McKellar, thank you for joining us. I`m so glad we were able to have you on the show tonight, and talk about someone doing something great for society and influencing young people in a positive way. Thanks so much.

MCKELLAR: Thank you.

ANDERSON: And you can pick up a copy of "Math Doesn`t Suck" in bookstores every where.

Beyond getting into calculus, what do Paris, Lindsay, Britney and Nicole need to do to clean up their act? Coming up, we`re getting some very specific advice about what they need to do to shake their Hollywood bad girl images, as our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT special report, "Hollywood`s Good Girls" continues.

Also, Nicole Richie says pregnancy has turned her into a good girl. No drugs, no alcohol, no smoking, no caffeine. I really hope that`s true and that it lasts even after she gives birth. Coming up, a glimpse and Nicole`s video diary for her unborn baby.

I shudder to think about this, but there are lots of little girls who look up to the Hollywood bad girls. Luckily, there are some free thinkers out there in the youth of America. Just wait until you meet a six-year-old girl from Tennessee and se who her celebrity obsession is. That is still to come. Stay with us.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York.

Now back to our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT special report, Hollywood`s good girls. Nicole Richie says she`s a good girl now that she`s about four months pregnant. She says she`ll be playing by the rules -- no alcohol, no drugs, no caffeine.

In an interview with Diane Sawyer on "20/20" we got it see Nicole`s baby bump for the first time. And we got a look at the video diary Nicole and her boyfriend Joel Madden are making. Take a look at this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

NICOLE RICHIE: You want to see how I am?

DIANE SAWYER, NEWS ANCHOR: Yes. I want to see!

Oh, there it is.

RICHIE: There I am.

(LAUGHTER)

SAWYER: Unbelievable.

RICHIE: Yeah. It`s exciting.

SAWYER: It is.

RICHIE: It`s really exciting.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We`re listening to Marvin Gaye, and we are --

SAWYER (voice over): Two young parents-to-be turning on a video camera.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yeah, got these to put on Nicole`s stomach so I`m ready to musically gift my child.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Nicole says being pregnant has shown her that it`s time to take responsibility for her actions. And she really wants to be somebody her baby can look up to. So for Nicole Richie, pregnancy was the key to learning the error of her ways, but what about the other party girls of Hollywood? You know who they are. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan. It seems like multiple trips to rehab didn`t do much to change their ways. So what can Hollywood`s bad girls do to turn their lives around for good?

With us tonight from Hollywood is attorney Gloria Allred and in New York, Marta Tracy, media strategist and author of the book, "Staring You."

Welcome to you, both.

I really think that we are all at kind of our wit`s end with all these party girls. Look at Lindsay Lohan. She had just finished rehab, then she turns around and gets another DUI, two stints in rehab. Reportedly back in rehab for a third time.

Gloria, does she, like some of the others in Hollywood -- we know who they are -- need to serve time, to get that wake-up call to know that the world doesn`t revolve around them?

GLORIA ALLRED, ATTORNEY: She does need to serve some time, but in addition -- if, in fact, she`s committed any criminal act, of course -- and in addition, she needs meaningful rehab.

In other words, to treat it not as a revolving door, but as a place where she`s going to get serious about getting help. She`s going to stay there. Until it really has an impact on her. When she gets out of rehab, she has to have constant monitoring. She has to have people around her who tell her the truth. Not just why yes people who agree with whatever she says and does. But people who will look her in the eye and say, you know what, you are messing up, and you need to do things very differently.

ANDERSON: Yeah. Let`s hope she and everyone around her is taking the situation seriously.

Marta, you are a media strategist. We`ve watched Lindsay`s image really tank. Five movie flops in a row. Most recently "I Know Who Killed Me." After that second suspicion of DUI, she`s disappeared. Two weeks, not a peep out of her. It`s like a record. How important is it for Lindsay to be off the radar for a while?

MARTA TRACY, MEDIA STRATEGIST: I think it`s a great idea for her to get off the radar, and in order for you to be sober, you really have to change everything. And I would suggest for her like a move. I would get out of Los Angeles. I think she`s been hanging around with the party crowd.

I would have her, like, totally change her space. Remember, we also love with her as a red head. I would actually -- you know, enough with the blonde. I would have her, like, color her hair red. Head Gibson, celebrity stylist. Also, like, work on her look. Her look is -- can be more sophisticated. Like a designer -- like Rachel Roy or Diane Von Furstenberg. And have her just clean up her whole act.

And the other thing is to get her back to the source of what she loves and really feels passionate about. This is a woman who is an actress. And I would recommend to her, like, taking classes, and going to school and really thinking about why she got in this business in the first place.

ANDERSON: Some really great specific advice there.

And I want to now move on to Nicole Richie, who we just heard is elated about her pregnancy. And it wasn`t just finding out that she`s pregnant that hit home from her. This is what she told Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America."

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

RICHIE: They started flashing pictures of little children that had been killed by people driving under the influence, and at that moment I literally felt like the worst person in the world for even trying to --

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It was our first parent moment together.

RICHIE: It was our first parent moment. But for even trying to get out of that situation.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: OK, Gloria, what do you think? Is that just spin, or do you think she was simply scared straight?

ALLRED: Well, it may have had an impact on her, as a mother to be. And she may be thinking, you know what, that could be my kid that is harmed by a drunk driver. But, you know, if she`s had problems in the past and she`s really going to need constant support, constant help. Everything counts, such as what she just said, but she has to show it in actions as well. And she has to resist the urge, even after she gives birth, to go back to her old habits.

ANDERSON: Yeah. Hopefully she doesn`t act irresponsible after the birth, as someone else has done. Britney Spears, you know, she`s had a lot of public episodes before and after a stint in rehab earlier this year -- shaving her head, attacking the car with the umbrella. Most recently having that meltdown at an "OK" magazine shoot. TMZ now saying she`s hired a new manager.

But, Marta, it seems to me that she`s going to need more than just a new manager to come back and revive that good girl image.

TRACY: Well, the biggest role that she has right now is one of being a mom. And I would suggest for her just to take a long high hiatus, and really regrouping, finding herself perhaps like a life guru that can coach her. And really focusing on being a good mom, because she`s definitely, like, really off track.

ANDERSON: Absolutely. We do hope that all of these Hollywood bad girls, as they`re called, can really take control of their life and turn things around. Gloria Allred, Marta Tracy, thank you both for your insight.

ALLRED: Thank you, Brooke.

TRACY: Thank you.

ANDERSON: On Friday we asked you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Nicole Richie denies ever having an eating disorder. Do you believe her? Well, 9 percent of you say yes; 91% of you say no. And here`s some of the emails we received.

Ashley from South Carolina writes, "Saying Nicole Richie did not have an eating disorder is like saying Tom Cruise is not crazy. It just does not make sense."

Oh. Starla from Pennsylvania says, "I believe she`s telling the truth. Nicole has always seemed to be very honest about her shortcomings. Very unlike Paris and Lindsay."

All right. So whether we like it or not, lots of little girls look up to Nicole Richie, but not Kaylie Jones. She`s a six-year-old from Tennessee, and she`s obsessed with Elvis. Straight ahead I`ll tell you how that started and how she could end up in the "Guinness Book of World Records". It is such a cute story, and that is next. Stay with us. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for a Monday night will be right back.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York.

Most six-year-old girls like Hannah Montana and The Cheetah Girls, but not Kaylie Jones, a little girl from Tennessee. The object of her obsession is another league completely.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON (voice over): It all started when Kaylie was two years old and got a copy of "Blue Christmas" from her grandmother. Since then, it`s all Elvis all the time, and Kaylie may get a spot in the "Guinness Book of World Records" as the youngest Elvis collector. Kaylie`s mom says the family is kind of on Elvis overload and that there is no end in sight.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE, KAYLIE`S MOTHER: I ask her all the time, are you done collecting. Let`s quit collecting? She says, No, Mom. I`m never going to quit collecting. I`m going to take this with me when I move out.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Kaylie`s most prized treasure is an album cover signed by the King, himself. She even went to Graceland last year watching Elvis DVDs the whole way to there. Good for her.
