SHOWBIZ TONIGHT

Miss USA Admits Drug Usage; Interview With Joy Behar

Aired January 31, 2007 - 19:00:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

A.J. HAMMER, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: First it was alcohol. Now Miss USA Tara Conner admits to using drugs. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
BROOKE ANDERSON, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: And Jennifer Aniston opens up about plastic surgery and her shocking lesbian kiss. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.

HAMMER: On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, big stars, deadly accidents. Singer star Brandy`s tragic crash.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: 911?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes, there just been a massive accident on the 405.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Tonight, the startling move by the family of the woman killed in the accident, and why a civil rights group is now outraged. Plus, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT asks, are other celebrities, who have been a part of terrible, fatal car crashes, ever really able to put it behind them?

A really Harry situation. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe naked. Tonight, the around the globe anger. Should the 17-year-old star be taking it all off? SHOWBIZ TONIGHT asks the controversial question, is it right for a star so popular with kids to strip of his clothes?

Hello, I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

ANDERSON: Hi there everyone. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.

Tonight, the jaw dropping pictures of the teenager who plays Harry Potter has everybody asking, why did he decide to get naked and act in sex scenes? The raging controversy straight ahead.

HAMMER: But first tonight, the Brandy tragedy. We can hardly imagine what must be going through the mind of the young singing and sitcom star tonight. Not only is she waiting to hear whether or not she`ll be arrested for her involvement in a car accident that killed the mother of two children, tonight, she`s also facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit, just filed by the victim`s family. And now, even civil rights leaders are making outrageous claims.

Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is all over this explosive story.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes, there`s just been a massive car accident.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: There`s two vehicles. I think there`s a fatality.

HAMMER (voice-over): These frantic 911 calls SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has obtained marked the sudden beginning of a living nightmare for music and TV star Brandy. As a car accident that claimed the life of a Los Angeles waitress threatens to shatter Brandy`s world forever.

HARVEY LEVIN, TMZ.COM: I have heard she hasn`t been out of her house in six days.

HAMMER: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you Brandy has been hit with a 50 million dollar lawsuit, filed by the grieving family of Awatef Aboudihaj, who died on December 30th, in a horrifying multi-car crash that started when Brandy`s car hit hers on a Los Angeles freeway. Aboudihaj`s family claims Brandy was driving recklessly and needs to pay.

LOFTY MRICH, FAMILY ATTORNEY: If it takes that amount of money to deter people like Brandy Norwood from driving recklessly, so be it.

HAMMER: And now Los Angeles prosecutors say they`re trying to decide what the next step is.

ROCKY DELGADILLO, LOS ANGELES ATTORNEY: We will treat this case like every other case and take it very seriously, because someone died.

HAMMER: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT asking the hard questions in this heart breaking case. What will happen to Brandy now? And can she learn from other celebrities who have been in this life-shattering situation.

Brandy`s five-year role as the main character in the sitcom "Moesha," and her Grammy winning singing career established her as one of Hollywood`s more likable stars, not the kind of star you would expect to find in this kind of possible legal trouble.

JAMI FLOYD, COURT TV ANCHOR: This is not, and I won`t name any names, but this isn`t the kind of celebrity where we say, oh, what has she done now. This is the kind of girl you don`t mind if your daughter emulates.

HAMMER: In response to the 50 million dollar lawsuit, her representative tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, quote, the accident was a terrible tragedy. And Brandy`s heart goes out to Awatef Aboudihaj`s family. But for legal reasons we cannot comment on this lawsuit.

But will Brandy face prison for this accident? Well, it depends on who you ask. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT asked two attorneys turned media mavens.

FLOYD: If the DA goes forward, Brandy is in big trouble.

HAMMER: Court TV`s Jami Floyd tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, prison is a real possibility for Brandy.

FLOYD: Here you have a high-profile person, and that puts a lot of pressure on prosecutors to do something about it. Somebody is dead and they don`t want any concerns on the part of the public that a celebrity is getting a pass when a life has been lost.

HAMMER: But TMZ.com managing editor Harvey Levin tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, probation is more likely.

LEVIN: This was not some kind of evil motive. At worst, she was just inattentive and didn`t see the traffic in front of her was slowing down. So almost certainly she would not go to jail.

HAMMER: But while the legal details are in dispute, one thing remains certain, Brandy will have to live with the knowledge she was involved in a death.

FLOYD: Whether she is charged for the crime or not, whether she has to pay over the 50 million dollars or not, she has got to live with it for the rest of her life. She will never escape that.

HAMMER: Other celebrities have found themselves in that situation. In 1987, film, stage and TV star Matthew Broderick was involved in a car accident in Northern Ireland where two women were killed. And in 2001 Actress Rebecca Gayheart`s car struck and killed a 9-year-old boy crossing the street. Neither star went to prison, but both suffered a horrendous emotional toll, one made even scarier perhaps by the fact that it could happen to any one of us.

FLOYD: We all drive and we all run the risk of killing someone in another car or hitting a pedestrian. A car is a deadly weapon. And we forget that.

HAMMER: But perhaps there`s a lesson to be learned. Gayheart paid for the young victim`s hospitalization and funeral, and settled the family`s wrongful death lawsuit. Court TV`s Floyd suggests Brandy follow that example.

FLOYD: First of all, it`s the decent and moral thing to do, especially if you have the financial wherewithal to help them out. It also helps to avoid criminal prosecution or at least conviction and perhaps to help to settle any lawsuit. Because I think if the victim`s family understands that you are operating in good faith, it can go a long way to calming all the very raw emotion.

HAMMER: Either way, it`s clear that the charmed life of Brandy has changed forever.

FLOYD: My guess is she will always think back to that moment and wish that she could dial that clock back to the instant before the accident happened.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: It`s such a tragic story. And as if all that is not bad enough, the story gets even more controversial tonight, because now even civil rights leaders are getting in the middle of this. With me here in New York, our good friend, investigative journalist Pat Lalalma. It`s good to have you here in the studio, Pat. So there`s this group called Project Islamic Hope, and they claim Brandy`s being unfairly targeted because she is a celebrity. They`re organizing an e-mail campaign in the African American community. They want to pressure the L.A. city attorney not to file charges. Is there anything to their claim at all?

PAT LALAMA, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: It`s called baloney A.J. I mean look, I have worked with the city attorney`s office for years. I have covered so many case. I have seen them prosecute or choose not to prosecute so many people. They do not cherry pick cases. This is not because she`s black, not because she`s a celebrity.

Rocky Delgadillo, who is the city attorney, is really fair. What he needs to do to be fair is look at what -- remember, it`s the CHP, the California Highway Patrol that recommended this. It`s his duty to now sit down and look at the facts. He didn`t wake up one day and call the cops and say, you know, I think we really ought to consider charges. It`s up to them to bring the case to him.

HAMMER: So as absurd as it may seem, this accident happened over a month ago at this point. And it seems to me that it wasn`t until all of this was made public that the decision to file charges or not file charges came about. Or is that pretty normal?

LALAMA: No, I think -- look, this is a very sensitive issue, because you are talking about a celebrity. It`s not that they`re getting a particularly better treatment. But it`s a case that the cops -- that the city authorities are going to know is going to get attention. So they`re going to be very careful about how they investigate it. They probably went through every detail. They probably interviewed two and three and four times. Remember, it was on that terrible part of the 405. If anybody knows L.A., I am on that stretch of the freeway.

It is truly considered one of the most dangerous stretches in the world. I`ve nearly gotten in accidents there myself. They probably want to do things very carefully, because if they didn`t do this, someone would say, well how come you`re not considering filing charges? I mean, they`re like damned if they do, damned if they don`t.

HAMMER: That`s exactly right, and the truth is, this is, we cannot forget, such a tragic story.

LALAMA: It`s so awful.

HAMMER: It`s for me to even comprehend what Brandy must be going through. And, of course, there is a woman who died, who is a mother. Now, we have the family, who has filed a lawsuit, right away, now for 50 million dollars is what we`re hearing. As tragic as it may be, is 50 million bucks a little extreme in a case like this? s

LALAMA: Here`s the ying and yang of our justice system, A.J., in that to give people relief from their pain and suffering, or their compensation, our only standard is money. Right? I mean that`s all we really have. You can`t take the pain away. So our system says, all right, money is the way you`re going to make me feel better. It`s so hard to put a price tag on a loss of life. Here`s the situation, usually the families will start high. I don`t think it`s ever going to make it --

HAMMER: Do you think they started high because it is Brandy, a celebrity.

LALAMA: I think that`s a real factor. In L.A. I have to pay more for insurance because I`m on TV. I hope nobody heard out there. But the fact of the matter is, you have to pay more for your car insurance because they know, oh, you must make a lot of money. Well, whether you do or you don`t that`s the assumption, so you do get assessed a higher rate.

Obviously there must be a pocket book issue here somewhere. If it does go to trial, it will be up to the jury to decide how much compensation? Is Brandy remorseful, which she seems to be incredibly remorseful? How much pain and suffering? How much compensation? We need to hear all the facts before anybody can say what`s fair.

HAMMER: The facts will continue to unfold. Pat, great to have you here. I appreciate it.

LALAMA: Thank you. So nice to be here. Great to see you.

ANDERSON: Tonight Jennifer Aniston is setting the record straight about kissing Courtney Cox and about those plastic surgery rumors. Aniston will be guest starring on Cox`s new show "Dirt," playing a lesbian character. The former "Friends" co-star shares what Aniston -- they share what Aniston calls a goodbye kiss and she says she doesn`t think people want to see Rachel and Monica have at it.

And about the plastic surgery rumors Aniston tells "People Magazine" that, outside getting a deviated septum fixed, she hasn`t done anything. Aniston says there`s really nothing she can do about the tabloids stories that say she had breast implants. She says quote, "short of letting everybody have a feel, I don`t know what else to do. I really am pretty happy with god gave me."

You can pick up the new issue of "People Magazine." It is on news stands this Friday.

HAMMER: So Brooke, you know, Miss USA Tara Conner just got out of alcohol rehab.

ANDERSON: She did and coming clean now in more ways than one.

HAMMER: And can she clean up her image? Tonight we have a shocking new admission from Tara Conner, that she used drugs. We have that startling story coming up next. We`ll also have this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JOY BEHAR, "THE VIEW":rMD+IN_rMDNM_ I think a degenerate is really disgraceful. You shouldn`t use those kinds of words about people.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: "The View`s" Joy Behar, she really opens up about the ugly fight between her co-host Rosie O`Donnell and Donald Trump. It is the interview you`ll see right here, only on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

HAMMER: And a really hairy situation. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe naked. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT asks the controversial question, is it right for a star so popular with kids to strip off his clothes?

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provacative entertainment news show. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. It`s time now for a story that made us say, that`s ridiculous.

Now this is a story of a patient who was depressed. She didn`t want to leave the house. In fact, she put on a couple of pounds. So, to help her out, her doctor prescribed some Prozac. The thing is this particular patient is a pussy cat. Yes, a tabby named Twiglet (ph) has less than perfect anxiety and anger management issue at hand. But a shrink putting a kitty on the couch and prescribing Prozac, come on, that`s ridiculous.

ANDERSON: A shocking new revelation from Miss USA Tara Conner. She has used cocaine. In a revealing interview with NBC`s Matt Lauer, Conner says that in addition to her alcohol problems, she has tried the illegal drug.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TARA CONNER, MISS USA: I have done cocaine.

MATT LAUER, NBC NEWS ANCHOR: So how does it feel to say it.

CONNER: It gets it off my chest. To be honest with you, at first I kind held back on it a little bit. But there`s no sense in it. Because luckily, the great thing about getting everything out and being completely open and honest about things, it frees me from it. So the more that I get it off my chest, the better I feel about myself. It`s not healthy for my recovery to sit here and hold things back.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Conner also commits to her cocaine use in the new issue of "People Magazine." You`ll remember Tara Conner`s tearful admission last month. Pageant owner Donald Trump didn`t fire her. He gave her a second chance, despite her alcohol issues and rumors of wild sexcapades. She was shipped off to a month of rehab.

And right now SHOWBIZ TONIGHT sets the record straight about a reported million dollar deal for Tara to pose nude in "Playboy." Late today, "Playboy" reps told us they didn`t make her an offer, but they did have some discussions with Donald Trump.

HAMMER: And, of course, it was the Tara Conner fiasco that started the whole feud between Donald Trump and "The View`s" Rosie O`Donnell. Rosie dissed Donald for giving Tara a second chance. Well, "The View" co- host Joy Behar had a front row seat to all that drama. When Joy and I spoke earlier today, she told me that she never could have imagined that the feud would have become as big as it did.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BEHAR: She was funny, wasn`t she, when she did that.

HAMMER: It was very funny.

BEHAR: It was hilarious.

HAMMER: And she`s a comic.

BEHAR: Yes, and I thought it was very funny. But somehow she made him very angry and I think he overreacted. I mean, it really was like hitting a flee with a sledge hammer. I mean, she said one thing and he went bananas.

HAMMER: And I was shocked and surprised -- and I told him this to his face -- by the language he was using. It was like a kid in a school yard, calling her a fat slob, calling her a degenerate. Were you appalled by his behavior? Because I know I was.

BEHAR: Well, I think that a degenerate is really disgraceful. You shouldn`t use those kinds of words about people. She didn`t call him any names. She was just talking about him. And what else did he say? Oh, she`s fat. Oh, they always say women are fat. They think that`s going to just kill us, you know, if they say we`re fat. So what?

HAMMER: It was all pretty terrible. And, of course, it didn`t just stay as the Rosie/Donald feud. Barbara got dragged into it as well. There have been quite a few little things like that since Rosie she came on the show. The Chinese were angry at her. Kelly Rippa and her sparred a little bit. Do you think -- all of that is certainly good for ratings. The ratings have been terrific since she came on board. Is it good for the show?

BEHAR: Well, for me, speaking just for myself, I find it fun to be in the middle of that kind of a show, where there`s excitement going on. What was it? The Kelly Rippa thing. Well that was her opinion. She thought that Kelly was doing something. Kelly said no, and that was the end of it. What was the other one?

HAMMER: The Chinese.

BEHAR: She`s a comedian, you know. She`s a comic. I mean, she might have upset some people. Look, her intention was totally honorable. She did not intend to upset any Chinese people. We`re comedians. We get in trouble. We have big mouths.

HAMMER: And sometimes it`s speaking before you`re really thinking about the consequences, when you`re on a show that big. So my question really is, when you flip open the paper, and those are the things that are getting the attention, it`s like attention for the wrong reason, I guess.

BEHAR: But that`s Showbiz. You`re on a show called SHOWBIZ -- what is it? SHOWBIZ Sit Down.

HAMMER: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, thanks Joy.

BEHAR: When did it become SHOWBIZ Sit Down?

HAMMER: Well, that`s what we`re doing right now. You know it`s SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Another thing, let`s move on then, because there`s something that you guys talk about quite a bit on your show, which we obsess about here and that is people`s obsession with thinness. And for me the anger that I feel about the messages that are being put out there, these really unattainable ideas of what a woman should be like. You`ve talked about that on your show. A lot of finger goes on.

BEHAR: Yes, look at Tyra, what they`re doing to Tyra, because she put on a few pounds. She`s not a model anymore, she`s a talk show host.

HAMMER: And she looks terrific and she is a very healthy weight. Who do you think, with all the finger pointing going on, the blame really belongs with?

BEHAR: The magazines. I said it today. They`re war criminals over there, because they make women fight with each other about who is thin or who looks good, what are you wearing, how is your hair. All of that stuff is all perpetrated by, I think, magazines. And then TV picks up on it too. But it starts at the magazines, I think.

HAMMER: Well, hopefully we can talk about it some more.

BEHAR: Here they are. Look at this.

(CROSS TALK)

BEHAR: Those polka dots make her look fat.

HAMMER: So Joy, February, coming up, is American heart month.

BEHAR: Yes.

HAMMER: You`re working closely with the American Heart Association.

BEHAR: Because of Valentine`s Day, I guess, they decided to go red in February.

HAMMER: But you have a more personal reason why you`re so passionate about getting involved.

BEHAR: I don`t know if you realized this, but heart disease is the number one killer of women. Did you know that?

HAMMER: I didn`t know that.

BEHAR: Yes, people think other diseases, because we hear about breast cancer, which is obviously a serious disorder, but heart disease kills more women than all of the other diseases, five of them combined.

HAMMER: Well my hat`s off to you for bringing the attention to it that it definitely needs and deserves.

BEHAR: It`s very important. And people should look into their history and see if they`re going to have a heart attack in the next ten years. They go online, they find out. It`s great.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: American Heart Month starts tomorrow. And to take your online heart checkup, just GoRedForWomen.org.

ANDERSON: A.J., you remember Katharine Mcphee. She was the runner up to last season`s "American Idol" winner Tailor Hicks.

HAMMER: Of course, the lovely Katharine McPhee. Who can forget.

ANDERSON: That`s right, very talented as well. And tonight she`s setting the record straight. Has she been hanging out with Tom Cruise at the church of Scientology. We`ll find out, and we`ve also go this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Most women over 40 look better now than they ever did in their 20s and 30s. And I think companies are really jumping on this.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Paris, Britney, Lindsay, who cares. Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT tells you why Hollywood`s biggest stars over 40 are just the ones that companies have got to have in their ads.

ANDERSON: And a really hairy situation. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe naked. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT asks the controversial question, is it right for a star so popular with kids to strip off his clothes?

So now we want to hear from you about it. It is our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Harry potter star`s nude role, is it inappropriate? Go to CNN.com/SHOWBIZTONIGHT. Send us an e-mail, SHOWBIZTONIGHT@CNN.com. Remember, you can send us video e-mail as well. Just go to our website, CNN.com/SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Tonight, last season`s "American Idol" runner up Katharine McPhee is setting the record straight. Despite what you may have heard, the 22-year-old singing sensation insists she`s not a Scientologist. No church picnics with Tom Cruise, obviously. Katharine says the rumor got started after she had a fling with a church member. But on this morning`s "Today Show," Katharine said she`s having a tough time getting the word out.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KATHARINE MCPHEE, "AMERICAN IDOL" RUNNER UP: I`m not a Scientologist. I mean, I know a lot of people in Scientology, but I have tried to clear the rumor. I think it just keeps coming back.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Well, it`s the other side of celebrity.

MCPHEE: Yes, I guess I`ll probably be clearing that rumor for a really long time.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It`s done. We just cleared it, OK, final.

MCPHEE: OK.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Just laugh it off Katharine. The pop star is also quite open about her battle with bulimia. Katharine`s over it now but confesses she still struggles with her body image. Her advice to young fans who might be grappling with a similar crisis, get a goal in life and get help. And if you`ve got McPhee-fever, you`ll be happy to know her long awaited self-titled debut album is in stores right now.

HAMMER: Now Brooke, I know your husband has made you take the poster`s down, but I know you were a big "New Kids on the Block" fan. Who was your favorite.

ANDERSON: I`m not embarrassed to admit it, Joey McIntyre. "Please Don`t Go Girl" got me every time.

HAMMER: All right, well guess what, he`s obviously all grown up. Joey McIntyre`s got his own solo career. Next he`s here to reveal a little secret about him and Britney Spears.

ANDERSON: And why some parents who were just wild about Harry Potter might now be calling the actor Daniel Radcliffe Dirty Harry.

We`ve also got this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Most women over 40 look better now than they ever did in their 20s and 30s. I think companies are really jumping on this.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Paris, Britney, Lindsay, who cares? Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT tells you why Hollywood`s biggest stars over 40 are the ones companies just have got to have in their ads.

(NEWS BREAK)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for Wednesday night. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

ANDERSON: And I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. You are watching TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.

A.J., forget the Olsen twins, Lindsay, Britney - all of those gals. We are celebrating women 40 and up. We are showing stars who are proving that 40 and up isn`t older, it`s just getting better. And some new ad campaigns prove that.

HAMMER: I - I couldn`t agree more, Brooke.

Also, I - I should inform you that back in the late 80s, early 90s, my work, my job too me to more than my fair share of New Kids on the Block concert. A lot of people said.

ANDERSON: I`m sure you enjoyed them.

HAMMER: .it was like the Beatles. And you know what? They`re not far off. I mean, the screaming was intense. I - I actually had to wear earplugs. It was an unbelievable thing to witness.

Well, here we are - you know, flash forward 15 years later. Joey McIntyre from New Kids, the youngest one in the group, all grown up. We saw him on "Dancing With the Stars." He`s got a cool new album, but what is his connection to Britney Spears? Joey stopping by. We`ll find out on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT>

ANDERSON: I admit it; I had the New Kids on the Block buttons on my backpack.

HAMMER: Did you have the lunch box though?

ANDERSON: I did not.

HAMMER: No, you were told old for that. I mean, I meant that in the nicest possible way.

ANDERSON: Thanks. Of course you did.

HAMMER: Please move on.

ANDERSON: All right. Moving on now, tonight, we can hardly believe our eyes. The teenage star of Harry Potter in the nude, acting in sex scenes on a London stage (INAUDIBLE).

Daniel Radcliffe is going to be taking it all off for his starring role in "Equus." We were all shocked when we got these pictures. And we`re not alone.

With me tonight, Tom O`Neil from "In Touch" weekly.

How you doing, Tom?

TOM O`NEIL, "IN TOUCH": Great, Brooke. How are you?

ANDERSON: Doing well, thank you.

OK, Tom, we`re not prudes around here. We`ve done some controversial stuff on this show. But were you as surprised to see these pictures and hear about this as we were?

O`NEIL: Yes, considering this boy is 17 years old. He doesn`t turn 18 until the summer. So for him to be taking a chance like this - it`s one thing for him to want to redefine himself, careerwise. This whole "Harry Potter" franchise will be coming to an end soon. You could see why he wants to do that, and why he might even want to go naked on stage in a classic play.

But come on, he`s not 18 yet. And that adds a whole other creepy dimension to this.

ANDERSON: Right. Just 17. Certainly doesn`t look 17 in these pictures, though.

But Tom, I`ve got to tell you, in Harry Potter, he`s this innocent, bespectacled little boy wizard, a fantasy character. And now he`s going to be come an object of fantasy in a whole different light.

Is there a real possibility that he could blow his image here?

O`NEIL: Absolutely, especially considering that his image is so wholesome, as you say. And the people who would go see his movie are often needing permission from their parents to go, who may now say, No, no, no, you can`t do this.

By the way, he`s also doing this on TV. He recently appeared in an episode of "Extras" on HBO, in which he`s asking really blatant, graphically sexual questions of Ricky Gervais.

And - and so he`s trying very hard to break out of this Harry Potter mold. And it may be a little too early for him to really do that.

ANDERSON: Yes, from a very childlike character to a very, very adult role here.

And speaking of parents, Tom, I got to tell you, at our morning editorial meeting, one of our producers, the fabulous Tammy Rolese (ph), she said that she had her television on this morning, and her young son saw these pictures televised, and he was really confused.

Isn`t there a danger here?

O`NEIL: Of course there`s a danger here, because he`s not just Daniel Radcliffe, actor, as he is in his mind. He`s Harry Potter to billions of people out there. And there`s a certain responsibility that comes with that.

They`ll be one more Harry Potter movie this summer, two more after that. He should run this course before he tried other, edgy, over-the-edge things, really.

ANDERSON: Yes, because they`re not done with this movie - with this movie franchise by any stretch of the imagination. So it is a little bit jolting here.

But, you know, Tom, it`s not the first controversy of this kind. I was in Sundance last week. Dakota Fanning was there - you know, 12 years old, her character brutally raped in her new movie, "Hound Dog."

But are we making a big deal out of nothing? Or has Hollywood gone too far?

O`NEIL: I think that we`re not a big deal out of the - too big a deal out of the Daniel Radcliffe case. But in the case of Dakota Fanning, maybe we are; maybe we`ve gone overboard. After all, there`s no nudity here.

After all, these scenes are faked, and it`s done with lightning and darkness and - and we`ve seen many cases of it before, where Brooke Shields in "Pretty Baby," for example, was only 12 years old when she`s being raffled off by her mother for a - to get - lose her virginity. And there were cases like the controversial made-for-TV movie "Bastard Out of Carolina," that turned out to be so controversial, involving, you know, the rape of a 12-year-old child, that Turner networks wouldn`t show it. Showtime picked it up and showed it.

So maybe we are being a little prudish when we`re faking it. But this Daniel Radcliffe thing in - in London isn`t faked.

ANDERSON: No, it`s not. Unfortunately, that rape scene in the movie - I saw it - fortunately, I was relieved; it was only a few seconds long.

But very quickly, Tom - you know, we`re seeing these pictures now. But you can bet somebody`s going to slip into that theater with a camera phone. He is nude in the play. This could get worse.

O`NEIL: This could get really worse. That`s the biggest danger here is. They`re not going to be able to block out all of the camera phones. They`re certainly going to try to collect them at the door.

All this has to do is one of these pictures go on the Internet, which you - is probably inevitable, and at 17 years old - wow, imagine the outcry that going`s to surround this next.

ANDERSON: Despite the controversy, the show will go on. Scheduled to start next month.

Tom O`Neil from "In Touch Weekly," thanks as always.

O`NEIL: Thanks, Brooke.

HAMMER: And that leads us to our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day." Let us know what you think about all of this.

ANDERSON: Women over 40, gather around. OK. Are you gathered?

Are you sick and tired of seeing models half your age without a wrinkle on them selling you age-defying makeup? Well, if so, then turn the volume up, because someone has been listening.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON (voice-over): Women over 40, rejoice: there`s a whole new model in town. Clairol has fortysomething Teri Hatcher.

TERI HATCHER, ACTRESS: Do different hair colors deserve the same treatment? Nice n` Easy doesn`t think so.

ANDERSON: Covergirl is bringing back over-50 Christie Brinkley.

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY, MODEL: Who says you can`t look as young as you feel?

ANDERSON: And in her 60s, Diane Keaton dazzles for L`Oreal.

DIANE KEATON, ACTRESS: And you know what? We`re worth it.

ANDERSON: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you the over-40 celebration is in full swing. The ladies are looking fantastic, and are showing it all off while pitching age-appropriate products.

LOIS JOY JOHNSON, "MORE" MAGAZINE: It`s an appealing way to look at products. And we don`t want to see women who are in their teens or 20s selling wrinkle creams or wearing expensive clothes. In a way, that`s insulting.

ANDERSON: Hollywood has been working fast and furiously to make up for being late to the life-starts-at-40 party, with TV shows like "Desperate Housewives".

HATCHER: Not if you`re sucking my exhaust you won`t.

ANDERSON: .moves like Diane Keaton`s "Because I Said So" .

KEATON: And actually, I am taking stock of my life.

ANDERSON: .and now the ad market.

MARY ALICE STEPHENSON, "HARPER`S BAZAAR": There`s (INAUDIBLE) to the advertising (INAUDIBLE)

ANDERSON: Jordache to Badgley Mischka, Covergirl to Mac cosmetics - the takeover is under way as commercial favorites look to the older, more sophisticated women to be the face for their campaigns.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT went straight to "More" magazine`s Lois Joy Johnson to look into this piece of the advertising pie.

JOHNSON: The largest (INAUDIBLE) segment of the population are women over 40. And we bought over $11 billion worth of anti-aging products last year.

So this is a very powerful group of consumers out there.

ANDERSON: Acting royalty "Queen" star Helen Mirren tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT she agrees.

HELEN MIRREN, ACTRESS: And it`s a final recognition of the fact that women are a very, very powerful economic force in the world. And they`re not to be sidelined in any way.

ANDERSON: Jordache is looking to cash in on that pot of gold. Its new campaign reads, "The look is back," and over-40 Elizabeth Hurley was the model figure they went looking for.

STEPHENSON: Jordache Jeans just signed with Elizabeth Hurley. Elizabeth Hurley is in her early 40s. She looks fantastic. She`s comfortable in front of the camera. These women want to wear the same things their daughters wear. And that includes jeans.

Badgley Mischka took a more mature approach to advertising their famous fashions this time around. Sharon Stone, who`s pushing 50, an age bracket or two older than last season`s spokesgirls, the twentysomething Olsen twins.

And Mary Alice Stephenson of "Harper`s Bazaar" tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT she agrees with their move.

STEPHENSON: Badgley Mischka is now working with Sharon Stone, letting go of the Olsen twins, because now they want to speak to an older audience. A brand can`t survive now without speaking to many audiences.

ANDERSON: And if you ask SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, Christie Brinkley can speak to any age group.

We remember her as the Covergirl of the `80s. But now she`s back, believe it or not, over 50, and making Covergirl look better than ever.

STEPHENSON: Historically, Covergirl had never worked with older women. But they felt the need to now, because the Boomers were demanding it. They want anti-aging products.

ANDERSON: So in honor of the graciously gray, fine-lined women who think Lionel, not Nicole, when they hear the name "Richie," advertisers are giving the gift of realistic images - with Sharon, Pantene`s Diane Lane, and Mac`s Raquel Welch.

JOHNSON: Most women over 40 look better now than they ever did in their 20s and 30s, and I think companies are really jumping on this. And it`s import to us, as we get older, not to look younger, but to just look the best that we can possibly look.

ANDERSON: And cover girl Christie Brinkley agrees.

BRINKLEY: Sure, my skin looked great in my 20s. But would I want to be 25 again? Not a chance.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: And a very happy birthday to Miss Christie Brinkley. The model and cover girl turns 53 later on this week.

HAMMER: Well, Oscar night`s going to be here before you know it, and it`s almost time for Barbara Walters` annual Oscar special as well. Coming up, we`re going to tell you who`s going to be crying with Barbara this year.

ANDERSON: Plus, Diddy`s a daddy again. Tonight, we have the first pictures of his new twin baby girls. And we`re going to tell you whether Diddy does diaper duty.

HAMMER: Diddy diaper duty.

And Joey McIntyre`s here. Of course, you know him from "Dancing With the Stars" and New Kids on the Block. But did you know about his connection to Britney Spears? We`re going to find all about it. Joey McIntyre coming up in the interview you`ll see only on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

ANDERSON: First, tonight`s "`Entertainment Weekly` Great American Pop Culture Quiz": "Which of these `90s era films did not feature country singer Kris Kristofferson?": "Lone Star"; "Wag the Dog"; "Blade"; or "Payback"?

Think about it. We`re coming right back.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: .music under. Start your push jar (ph). Stand by, Brooke. Pre-set 7. Open her mike. Dissolve L.A. Go.

ANDERSON: Here we are again with tonight`s "`Entertainment Weekly` Great American Pop Culture Quiz": "Which of these `90s era films did not feature country singer Kris Kristofferson?": "Lone Star"; "Wag the Dog"; "Blade"; or "Payback"?

Kris Kristofferson appeared in all of these except, B, "Wag the Dog."

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.

It`s time now for another story that made us say "That`s Ridiculous!"

Now this one is all about a kid in Ohio who streaked - that`s right, streaked - through the lunch room at his high school and got quite a shock from a police stun gun. Listen to this: 18-year-old Taylor Killian (ph) ran nekkid through the high school cafeteria, and a police officer used a TASER twice to subdue him.

Now the office says he guesses Taylor`s prank went a little farther than he intended. Gee, you think? The kid is charged with inducing panic, public indecency, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, and was jailed after the incident. Whatever happened to detention?

Now school officials say he`s a good student, and if he was naked - well, clearly, he had nowhere to hide a weapon, right?

So we got to say, TASERing a teenage streaker and taking him to jail? "That`s Ridiculous!"

ANDERSON: But I`m sure he learned his lesson.

OK, you already know Ellen DeGeneres as one of the top comedians and TV talk show hosts in the biz. She`ll also be emceeing this year`s Academy Awards presentation.

But now, Barbara Walters gives us a whole different view of Ellen in an upcoming Oscar night TV special.

The two chatted earlier today on the set of Ellen`s talk show, and revealed life isn`t always amusing, even when you`re a top-rated funny girl.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BARBARA WALTERS, ABC NEWS: She cries.

ELLEN DEGENERS, COMEDIAN: I didn`t think - I joked with her. I said, I`m going to sit down - I`m going to cry from the beginning of it. When you say - when you say, `How are you?,` I`m going to go, `OK.` And then.

(LAUGHTER)

DEGENERES: Yes, but I don`t know. Well, we`ll talk (INAUDIBLE).

WALTERS: But you`ll see. It`s funny and (INAUDIBLE)

DEGENERES: It`s funny, hopefully, and then there`s a - a crying part. But.

WALTERS: Right. Right.

DEGENERES: You know how to - you know how to do it. You know how to push that button.

WALTERS: Well, I - well, we`ll let them see it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Barbara`s Academy Awards night TV special will also feature conversations with Oscar nominees Helen Mirren, Eddie Murphy and his "Dreamgirls" co-star Jennifer Hudson.

HAMMER: You know Joey McIntyre from season one, of course, of ABC`s hit show "Dancing With the Stars."

But before that, of course, Joey was a huge star when he was just a teenager with the group New Kids on the Block. Joey`s still singing; in fact, he`s out with a cool new album of Frank Sinatra`s covers. It`s called "Talk to Me."

Joey McIntyre joining me in New York. It`s good to see you, my friend.

JOEY MCINTYRE, SINGER: Good to see you, my friend.

(CROSSTALK)

MCINTYRE: Can I get - can I get that thing right there? That`s something - that - that thing in the background, behind you.

HAMMER: The picture. (INAUDIBLE) - can we throw that still up?

MCINTYRE: Yes, that`s not a computer-generated thing. That`s a real, like, billboard.

HAMMER: Yes. That`s - there you are.

MCINTYRE: I want it for my room. Thank you. That`s real.

HAMMER: We`ll - we`ll - we`ll ship that right over.

MCINTYRE: That`s a good way to start an interview.

HAMMER: "Dancing With the Stars" has gotten you a lot of attention in recent times. The new season`s getting under way in March, on - on the 19th. And you were a huge part of the first season.

That show - "American Idol" the biggest show on television.

What do you think it is about these stars that makes everybody just love them? Because we can`t enough.

MCINTYRE: Well, I think with "Dancing With the Stars" - you know, of course, you have that - it`s - you have that trepidation of seeing these people go out and - and out - outside of their comfort zone and - and take a chance.

But I think it`s - it`s something that`s fun for the whole family. And there`s not a lot of that on TV. And I think it`s a throwback those dance and variety shows that - that haven`t been around for a long time. So it`s - it`s fun to be a part of that.

HAMMER: And particularly somebody like you, who we certainly have seen dance before.

I mean, look at the extremes of your career. You know, back with New Kids, you guys sure had the moves.

MCINTYRE: Yes.

HAMMER: I think the "Hangin Tough" moves in - in particular were the most awesome.

MCINTYRE: Yes.

HAMMER: But the - but then you look at the ballroom dancing, and it`s something that you really seem to have a passion for, and got a lot of admiration for.

Which did you prefer getting the attention for, the love for, the - that - that early stuff? Or do you like - you know, you get the love from sort of an older crowd?

MCINTYRE: Well, I`ve been around long enough to kind of learn to love it all.

(CROSSTALK)

MCINTRYE: A lot of - a lot of the fans, you know, ask me to do the New Kids dance, and then they try to demonstrate the New Kids dance. And that`s not very - very pretty.

But the ballroom dancing - you know, I aspired to be, you know, those - you know, if I could be so bold, the Fred Astaires and - and Gene Kelly, and what they did. And to be the song-and-dance man, and to study these dances, and to really take them seriously. Because these professional dancers on the show are amazing, and it`s just great to work with them.

HAMMER: And when you think about the clothes, equally goofy - New Kids, ballroom dancing.

MCINTYRE: Yes. I mean, at the time, I don`t think it was that goofy.

HAMMER: No, no. Not at all.

MCINTYRE: It`s - it`s - you know, when you go to the party, you got to have a good time.

HAMMER: That`s exactly it.

MCINTYRE: You know what I mean? So you got to come dressed the right way, you know?

HAMMER: And you were always the crooner from the New Kids. So only appropriate that - that you got into the Frank Sinatra covers on the new album, "Talk to Me."

Now I want to first though about a lyric that I dug up. And you got to help me out with this.

MCINTYRE: You dug it up?

HAMMER: I`m - I`m just - I`m going to read this lyric. Yes, I did my homework.

MCINTYRE: Nice.

HAMMER: It`s - quote - "Girl, I know you`re bigger than Madonna/To be your boyfriend, it would be an honor."

Now you were writing this about Britney Spears, apparently. I`d like to know when you wrote that.

MCINTYRE: Well, that`s - that - you know, that`s - if that`s what you think I was writing about, that`s OK, too. I mean.

HAMMER: That`s what I`m told, Joey.

MCINTYRE: That`s the great thing. It`s - it`s more of a comment on pop culture at the time.

HAMMER: Is it?

MCINTYRE: Yes. And it`s a song from - from my - my last record. But my latest record - now there`s a record to talk about.

HAMMER: "Talk to Me" is - is - is the album. And as I mentioned, you know, you did sort of get into that more of that crooning phases. And - and the - the song "Come Dance With Me," the Frank classic, is on there, which - which seems pretty appropriate.

MCINTYRE: Yes. I mean, I get to sing two songs on the tour, on this "Dancing With the Stars" tour, which is a blast. And - and this is much I grew up with. My - I`m the youngest of nine kids, and so my - this is my dad`s music. And growing up in theater, a lot of these songs were from, you know, Broadway hit shows. And they`re just - it`s great music, and I`ve - it`s really close to my heart, and I`m - I`m really excited to have (INAUDIBLE)

HAMMER: Did you identify with Frank? Other than the blue eyes?

MCINTYRE: Hey, you know, he`s been up and down and over and out, you know what I mean? But he`s - he`s - he`s an amazing performer. And - and if - you know, if I can be inspired and do what he did, that would be great.

HAMMER: Always a cool cat.

Always good to see you, Joey. I appreciate you stopping by.

MCINTYRE: Thank you. Good to see you.

HAMMER: The album is "Talk to Me." It`s available exclusively on the "Dancing With the Stars" tour. That goes through February 11.

ANDERSON: Yesterday, we told you about how more women are staying unmarried, from your friends and neighbors to Angelina Jolie and Oprah Winfrey. And we asked you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day," which was this: "Unmarried in Hollywood: Is marriage obsolete?"

Check this out: the vote was split right down the middle. Fifty percent of you say yes; 50 percent of you say no.

So here are a couple of the e-mails we received"

Garrett from California: "Marriage is finally being accepted for what it is: a symbolic ceremony that just so happens to have some tax benefits."

Angela from Georgia says: "Of course marriage is becoming obsolete, because of people in Hollywood having children out of wedlock, left and right."

We do appreciate your e-mails. Keep on sending them.

HAMMER: And coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT - hey, it`s big excitement: Diddy`s a daddy to twins. Everybody`s very excited about this. And everybody loves the baby pictures. We have the first pictures of Diddy`s new baby girls. Plus we`ll answer the burning question: does Diddy do diaper duty? Diddy diaper duty.

That`s next on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Stand by, Brooke. Pre-set 7. Dissolve L.A. Go, Brooke.

ANDERSON: Thank you, Charles.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.

Well, Diddy is a new daddy to twin girls. And tonight, we have the first pictures. Take a look at these. These are pictures from "People" magazine. Diddy and his longtime girlfriend Kim Porter welcomed two daughters, Jessie James and Delilah Star. They welcomed them on December 21.

Diddy says he was in Toronto when Kim called to say she was about to have the babies. Luckily, he had a jet on stand by, and made it in time to be in the delivery room.

And get this: Diddy does diaper duty. I think there`s a song to be written there, Diddy. He says you just got to embrace it, because in his words, "You want to know everything is working."

The babies are only seven weeks old, but they`re already rocking some bling. Diddy says he bought them their first pair of diamond earrings.

As for when the girls get older, Diddy said - Diddy the designer says it`d be OK if they`re not into fashion, although he thinks they will be. Take a look at the closet - all those shoes.

And Diddy the daddy says when they get to be of dating age, he`ll probably one of those father with the shotgun at the gate.

For more with Diddy and the twins, pick up a copy of "People" magazine, on newsstands Friday.

Could I say Diddy anymore?

HAMMER: Well, you could say "Diddy diaper duty" a few times fast. He does Diddy diaper duty.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

HAMMER: I was very excited about that. I have no idea why.

Let us now find out what is coming up tomorrow on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

And tomorrow, Miss USA Tara Conner: what she learned during her stint in rehab. Shocking confessions about what she did before she checked in, and how she`s doing now. She says she is winning the battle with the bottle, but can she possibly win back her image? That`s coming up tomorrow.

Also coming up tomorrow, Tyra fights back. After all those mean tabloid headlines about her weight, Tyra Banks is doing a whole show on the topic. How much she really weighs, and why all the attention is sending a very dangerous message. Tyra Banks getting real about weight. And that is tomorrow.

And that is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Thanks for watching. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

ANDERSON: Have a great night, everyone. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.

"GLENN BECK" coming up next, right after the latest headlines from CNN Headline News.
