Aired February 3, 2004 - 09:47   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: We're going to take a short break now. We're going to take you, though, to the Senate, where Senator Bill Frist is addressing -- getting ready to address reporters and concerns obviously about the ricin that's been found on the Senate property.
Let's listen in.

As you can see, Senate is now in session. We are expecting to hear from the Senate majority leader Bill Frist in just a few moments.

We're going to take a short break.

There he is, looks like he has come to the podium. Let's listen to see what he has to say this morning as they reconvene.

SEN. BILL FIRST (R-TN), SENATE MAJORITY LEADER: As mentioned at 10:30, we'll begin the highways bill. As mentioned yesterday, it will be very important for us to address this bill and spend the appropriate time this week and through next week with the objective of completing this bill by the end of next week, a very important bill in terms of supporting our infrastructure throughout this country, in terms of providing that infrastructure to support our economy and also to create jobs, a very important bill.

The various committees, relevant committees, met yesterday. Some of those committee meetings will be affected by the closure of the office buildings today, but we'll have further announcements on the committee meetings a little bit later this morning.

O'BRIEN: Listening to senator -- Senate majority leader Bill Frist, talking a little bit about how some of the committee meetings have been affected by the closure due to the ricin that was found in the senator's mailroom.

We're going to continue to monitor this, see if he has any comments about the ricin and the investigation that is ensuing.
