THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: We are back in the CNN makeup room, where we're Back to School on a Budget.
Today, we are doing haircuts. We have a couple of kids in here. Actually we have three children in here, (UNINTELLIGIBLE) quite a job, getting their haircuts in some of the new styles coming up (UNINTELLIGIBLE) school.

This is Duwan (ph), who -- wow, what a difference we have, Cat Carey (ph), here. You did her hair, and it didn't take you too long at all, did it?.

CAT CAREY, HAIR STYLIST: No, not at all. It looks great. It's versatile, it will work on many textures. And I think she looks great, ready for school.

CALLAWAY: How much would this haircut cost?

CAREY: It depends on which concept you visit, what experience you're looking for, but anywhere from $15 to $25.

CALLAWAY: That's not too bad. Are you happy with your haircut, Duwan?

DUWAN: Yes, I love it, I love it.

CALLAWAY: You look beautiful.

DUWAN: It's really -- I can do a lot of different things with it, and it's what I want. I love the color. It's my first time with color and I love it.

CALLAWAY: It looks great.

Moving on to stylist Kathy Jeffries, who has -- what's your name? Josh?

JOSHUA BLOODWORTH, STUDENT: Josh.

CALLAWAY: Is it Josh? Now, Josh, I understand you had really short, short hair. You had that buzz look for a while. A little bit longer this time. Why did you want it longer?

BLOODWORTH: So I can do more stuff with it. And I just feel more comfortable with it longer.

CALLAWAY: You know, we've been seeing a lot of the hair stylists are giving these buzz looks, but kind of going out already, isn't it?

KATHY JEFFRIES, GREAT CLIPS: (UNINTELLIGIBLE), they like it a little longer, a little easier, a little messier look, and it's fast and easy and he looks great.

CALLAWAY: How long did it take you to do this?

JEFFRIES: Actually just a few minutes. Put a little pomade on your hand, rub it through, and shake your head and you're out the door and (UNINTELLIGIBLE).

CALLAWAY: Looks good, Kathy.

And we've got another stylist, this is Susan Garner and she is with Joe. Let me get out of the way here. Joe, you've got highlights, right?

JOE GARNER, STUDENT: That's right.

CALLAWAY: Now, when I was in school, if a guy got highlights, he would never tell anybody, but that is really the in thing now, isn't it?

JOE GARNER: Everybody knows who my mom is, (UNINTELLIGIBLE) so it doesn't matter.

CALLAWAY: Got to get highlights. Are you getting a lot of teenagers asking for highlights?

SUSAN GARNER, HAIR CUTTERY: Absolutely. That is the big trend for our male clients now, especially the high school and college age, because they're big into color, and so we're doing an awful lot of it in the salon now, which is awesome.

CALLAWAY: What all did you do to Joe's hair?

SUSAN GARNER: We just did a balliage (ph) technique with a prelightener, and brought it up to a little bit of a gold and run some styling paste through it, Redken, and it's absolutely easy and moveable and restylable during the day, and it really shows off the texture and the dimension in the hair.

CALLAWAY: And now, Cat, our first stylist, said that a haircut costs about $15 to $20. How much did it cost to do this to Joe?

SUSAN GARNER: It's a value price here in the Atlanta region, it's about $13 for an adult. (UNINTELLIGIBLE)?

CALLAWAY: What about the highlights?

SUSAN GARNER: The highlights are a good bargain. For under $25, you can get partial, which is what this would be, so...

CALLAWAY: I'm amazed that a teenaged boy can stand there and get his hair highlighted, and sit there for a couple hours and do it.

SUSAN GARNER: It took all of 20 minutes.

CALLAWAY: (UNINTELLIGIBLE) highlighted.

SUSAN GARNER: All of 20 minutes, it's a very fast-working process.

CALLAWAY: All right. Miles O'Brien standing by. Miles, now, when you were in high school, would you have gotten highlights in your hair?

MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: No. I wish I had the picture of my hair parted right in the middle, dead smack in the middle and down to about here. Now, it's a winner. It really is. It was...

CALLAWAY: We wish that you had that photograph too, because we would love to show it.

O'BRIEN: It was almost -- Well, you know, at that time, everybody loved Farrah Fawcett. And I didn't know it at the time, but I think I was trying to do a Farrah do, but it just didn't work for me.

CALLAWAY: I had a Farrah do in my past as well.

O'BRIEN: Of course you did.

CALLAWAY: Yes, I think we all did.

O'BRIEN: Yes, all right.

CALLAWAY: All right, that does it from here. Now you know, $15 to $20, that is not a bad deal at all, is it?

O'BRIEN: I guess, yes. All right. All right, thank you very much, Catherine.
