KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: More now on a story involving the Salt Lake City Olympics we had reported not long ago. Federal prosecutors have now charged a Russian man with trying to fix the 2002 figure skating competition, the Salt Lake City Olympic Games. We are told the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and the acting assistant FBI director in charge of the New York field office will plan a 2:15 news conference, Eastern time, in lower Manhattan to detail these charges.
According to the spokesperson for the office, the suspect is an organized crime figure who was arrested by Italian police, assisting the FBI. The charges allege that he conspired to fix the outcome of certain skating competitions, including that controversial pairs test. You may remember that pitted a Russian and Canadian team in a fight for the gold medal, and then you may remember that controversy led to the unprecedented awarding of duplicate gold medals.

One again, more on the feds charging a Russian, believed to be an organized crime figure, with fixing Olympic skating competition, 2:15 Eastern time, news conference. We will bring that to you live.
