KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Well let's get more on these incidents of violence in Israel. CNN's Sheila MacVicar is live in Jerusalem with more details for us.

Hello again Sheila.

SHEILA MACVICAR, CNN SENIOR INTERNATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Hello again Kyra. Yes, just as General Zinni begins his meeting with Mr. Arafat, a meeting that should have started just about now in Mr. Arafat's headquarters in Ramallah, Mr. Zinni will be pressing Mr. Arafat on the issue of security, a key issue obviously in something that has been brought home again today where we have two incidents.

In Jerusalem a suicide bomber detonated his bomb in a Jerusalem suburb known as French Hill (ph), a busy intersection there. He succeeded in killing himself, did not wound anyone else. In a town just north of Tel Aviv, an Israeli community known as Kfar Saba several hours ago a Palestinian gunmen walked up to a busy intersection, intersection where's there's a lot of shops and restaurants, this being Sunday, it's the first day of the working week here. It was very crowded. He opened fire -- before he was killed, he killed one woman and wounded about nine others.

There is ongoing unrest in the Palestinian city of Bethlehem. There have been exchanges of fire there and one Palestinian militant has been confirmed killed there. So all of this in play today as General Zinni is engaged in what U.S. officials are describing as very delicate negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians, trying to get both parties to move towards a cease-fire -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Sheila MacVicar live from Jerusalem.
