Plane Crash in Germany Kills Two, Two USAF F-15s Missing in England

Aired March 26, 2001 - 11:57 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Now, we also want to go and update breaking news that we've been following for you. Two different military plane situations that we're tracking; one's out of Scotland, one's out of Germany.

First, let's bring you the one out of Germany. An Army reconnaissance plane, according to the Associated Press, has crashed in Germany, killing the two people who were on board that plane. Details sketchy right now. Officials are saying the plane crashed when it was approach to Nuremberg airport. It was a twin-engine propeller plane. More on that in just a moment.

Meanwhile, the search goes on for two Air Force F-15 that were on a training mission over Scotland. They've been missing for a couple of hours now. They were supposed to be coming back to the Royal Air Force base at Lakenheath. That's about 70 miles northeast of London. The search is on for those planes. Once again, those are F-15s and that is being helped by British officials as well as -- American officials are on top of that as well.

We're going to have an update, I imagine, from our Jamie McIntyre, who will be joining us from the Pentagon at the top of the hour.
