| Breaking NewsPentagon Says Missing Plane Report ErroneousAired March 26, 2001 - 10:51 a.m. ETTHIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We've been following this story on the two fighter jets. We'll get the latest now from the Pentagon and from our Jamie McIntyre -- Jamie. JAMIE MCINTYRE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, stay tuned, Daryn, because this could change again. But upon further review, Pentagon officials say they now believe that there are no overdue fighter planes at Lakenheath Air Base in England. This report apparently originated earlier today from police in England, who reported that two U.S. F-15s were overdue and perhaps missing over Scotland after a routine mission. Initially, the Pentagon said they believed that was the case that there were two planes that hadn't come back yet. But upon checking further with officials in Europe, the Pentagon says it now believes that there never were any missing planes and they are continuing to check out the source of that report. But at this point, we are told by the Pentagon that they believe that all planes are safe and accounted for and they are not quite sure the origin of this report, which originally came from police in England, that two planes were overdue. We'll check on that and try to get back to you. KAGAN: Absolutely, but that would be good news indeed. Jamie McIntyre at the Pentagon, thank you.
