Wide Variety of Movies Soon to Hit Screens

Aired January 27, 2001 - 7:26 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: All right, what's showing at a theater near you? Well, a vampire flick with a new kind of bite, a gal hooked on weddings, except her own, and a cheerleading squad up to no good.

Here's CNN's Anna Hoven (ph).

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE")

JOHN MALKOVICH, ACTOR: Ladies and gentlemen, this is Max Schreck, who will be portraying our vampire, Count Orlock.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANNA HOVEN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): In "Shadow of the Vampire," John Malkovich wants to shoot the perfect vampire movie. He's dug up the perfect actor to play the role.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE")

MALKOVICH: No, no makeup!

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: Seems the actor he hired to play the vampire is the real thing. The vampire is played by Willem Dafoe.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE")

MALKOVICH: How dare you destroy my photographer? You idiot!

DAFOE: Did I kill some of your people, Murnau? I can't remember.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: "Shadow of the Vampire" is rated R.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "THE WEDDING PLANNER")

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: Mary, you haven't been on a date in two years. UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: You can't avoid love forever.

JENNIFER LOPEZ, ACTRESS: You know those who can't do, teach? Those who can't wed, plan.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: Jennifer Lopez is "The Wedding Planner." While love is all around, she's never taken much time to enjoy it for herself. That is, until she meets Matthew McConaughey.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "THE WEDDING PLANNER")

LOPEZ: You saved my soul, my life.

You're the guy...

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY, ACTOR: I'm the supervising pediatrician here.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: She thinks she has met Mr. Right.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "THE WEDDING PLANNER")

MCCONAUGHEY: This is by far the coolest thing I've ever done in the city.

LOPEZ: Want to dance?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: But there's one problem.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "THE WEDDING PLANNER")

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: You can finally meet my fiance. Eddie, come here. Eddie, this is Mary, the wedding planner.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: "The Wedding Planner" is rated PG-13.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "SUGAR AND SPICE")

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: I know.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: What?

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: A bank robbery.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: I'm in.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: We're going to learn how to rob a bank by people who really know how to do it, criminals. UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: I'm going to visit my mom.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: This is like you asking me for help with your homework.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: In "Sugar and Spice," a group of high school cheerleaders become a gang of robbers.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "SUGAR AND SPICE")

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: How many bullets do you need?

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: No bullets. These are just to scare people. Kind of like a round-off back handspring with back double pull. You never really use it, you just want the opposing side to know you've got it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: They have a lot to learn.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "SUGAR AND SPICE")

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: Jonathan!

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: Excuse me? Yes. Are you robbing the supermarket or the bank branch?

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: Oh, my God, this is harder than I thought.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Today, five Betty dolls robbed the bank.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: We're, like, celebrities.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: "Sugar and Spice" is rated PG-13.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "SUGAR AND SPICE")

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: Is this going to take long? It's game night.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HOVEN: With "Now Showing," I'm Anna Hoven.
