Crisis in the Middle East: At Least Five Injured in Tel Aviv Bus Bombing

Aired December 28, 2000 - 6:25 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

LINDA STOUFFER, CNN ANCHOR: We have the opportunity to take you live to Jerusalem now. Our Matthew Chance is standing by with the latest on the bus bombing from today.

Hello, Matthew, what can you tell us?

MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, the details are still very sketchy on exactly what's happened in Tel Aviv, but the police say that an explosion has occurred on a bus in the center of the city. They're saying at least five people have been injured. That's according to reports on Israel radio, quoting Israeli emergency workers. But we have very few details at this stage.

We are told, though, by the police that they have found another device close by the bus, so where that first device exploded, and they are in the process of defusing it. We'll bring you more details on that developing story as and when we have them.

In the meantime, though, Linda, it's back to you.

STOUFFER: Matthew Chance in Jerusalem, thank you very much. And, Matthew, if you could stand by for us, we're going to get a quick break here on "AHEAD OF THE CURVE," but we plan to hook up with you again in just a few minutes to get the latest, and more details on that.
