| Breaking NewsJudge Orders 2 Million Ford Vehicles Recalled in CaliforniaAired October 11, 2000 - 1:44 p.m. ETTHIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: In the beginning of this program, we were telling you about a trial going on in California where the superior court judge accused the Ford Motor Company of misleading federal regulators when they claimed there were no problems with its so-called TFI ignition system in vehicles built from 1983-1995. Those ignition systems apparently causing stalling in the vehicles attributed to causing one death, apparently. Well, we've just received word from the Alameda County courthouse that the judge has ordered a massive recall of almost 2 million Ford vehicles in California alone. It's the first time a recall of motor vehicles has been ordered by a court rather than a government agency. We're going to be looking into the design flaw, if there is in fact one, the judge's order, and how a judge can be ordering a recall -- this is a state recall ordered by the judge -- in just a few minutes here on CNN TODAY.
