Six people are dead after a minivan lost control on a Florida interstate late Saturday night

It's unknown if any of the passengers were wearing seat belts or in car seats

CNN  —

Six people, including four children, are dead after a car crash on I-95 in Florida late Saturday night.

A minivan had tire problems when it slammed into a concrete median and then hit an SUV, Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky said. The vehicles were traveling south on I-95 in Palm Beach County.

Three people died at the scene and three more died at local hospitals.

Two people remain in serious condition, and one person was treated and released.

The six dead and the two seriously injured people were passengers in the minivan, Wysocky said.

The Florida Highway Patrol is trying to determine if any of the eight passengers in the minivan were wearing seat belts.

The interstate was closed for hours after the crash and reopened at 3 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol is in the process of notifying victims’ relatives.
