Washington CNN  —

A super PAC supporting Ohio Gov. John Kasich is increasing its New Hampshire advertising spending to $5 million and launching a fourth ad highlighting his budget-balancing experience in Washington.

The group, New Day for America, announced that it had expanded its existing on-air blitz through September 17, tacking on another million dollars to its spending there so far.

The spot, from Kasich ad-man Fred Davis, paints a picture of 1969 to make the case for Kasich.

“We walked on the moon, we had jobs, our nation’s budget was even balanced,” the narrator says in the spot, which references Kasich’s work as House budget chairman, balancing the budget 30 years later.

Kasich is making an aggressive play in New Hampshire and has picked up some key support in recent weeks, including that of veteran New Hampshire operative Tom Rath.

The former congressman has polled in the middle of the Republican field nationwide since his strong debate performance earlier this month. But in New Hampshire, he has pulled into third place behind Donald Trump and Ben Carson, making him neck-and-neck with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, according to a poll from The Boston Herald and Franklin Pierce University.

Kasich has climbed in the Granite State since his debate performance, aided as well by an early, multi-million dollar ad buy in the state, which started last month.

Former Sen. John Sununu, one of Kasich’s top advisers in New Hampshire, called the Kasich strategy a methodical plan to win the first primary election in the nation: “Lather, rinse, repeat.”
