Behind the scenes at the Democratic National Committee summer meetings in Minneapolis, super delegates and members of the DNC are quietly being asked by Draft Biden representatives to “keep an open mind” about the race for the presidential nomination.

A series of meetings started Thursday in which selected DNC members and super delegates are being briefed on the state of the race and the vice president’s explorations into running for president, a source tells CNN.

The message being imparted by supporters of the Draft Biden effort is that it is “too early to anoint” a front-runner in the race – specifically Hillary Clinton.

Two briefings were held Thursday, and two were scheduled for Friday.

The other purpose for the briefings is informational – to tell would-be supporters of Biden about his schedule over the coming weeks –highlighting his upcoming efforts to promote the Iran nuclear deal and his role in welcoming the Pope to the U.S. next month.

Biden is the highest-ranking Catholic in the federal government.

The source said Biden’s decision on getting into the race is likely to be announced the first week of October.
