An arrest was made in London on Wednesday in connection with suspected terrorism in Syria, the Metropolitan Police Service said.

Police arrested a 32-year-old man at a home in west London.

The suspect has not been identified, but police said he faces charges including fraud by false representation and arranging funding for the purpose of terrorism.

The arrest comes during an ongoing investigation into “suspected terrorist activity in Syria,” police said.

Searches at 12 locations in and around London are being conducted in connection with the arrest, police said.

Western authorities have expressed concerns about the flow of money and recruits to Syria, where volunteers often join jihadi groups in the battle against the government of Bashar al-Assad.

The worry is that these recruits might pose a threat when they return home or end up targeting Europe or Western interests in the Middle East.
